The meet the neighbours program is ancient, and hes very much still with top gear, though after a break.

TopGear Rules !

Hi guys, the BBC had canceled TopGear in 2001 due to falling ratings, the fall it's said, largely due to the departure of JC in 2000 (he'd joined TopGear in 1988). FifthGear was TopGear's supposed replacement on Channel 5 & has been on the air since 2002. The BBC changed it's mind after the FifthGear's first series & relaunched TopGear, in it's current format.
Personally, I think TopGear's a breath of fresh air among motoring programs. It's unabashed, & openly critical of bad cars, sometimes of even good ones. The passion for cars of all 3 presenters is clear for all to see, & they're very engaging, not to mention entertaining. The show has drama, & is very creative - the Stig, the races, & the challenges. I wish Indian motoring programs & magazines were critical of some of the choices Indian car makers make, instead sucking up to them at every opportunity they get !
P.S. If you thought JC was an obnoxious person, check out this guy !?!

Channel Five and Fifth Gear has nothing to do with the BBC. This is a list of the BBC channels

Fifth Gear was a competitor, and I'm pretty sure that I remember them both having current series at the same time (haven't been a great TV watcher for years).
