Cheaper Rolls Royce Coming

Quote:
Rolls Royce has announced that an all new model will be released within four years. RR is developing a new four-door model that will be positioned below the Phantom and be priced within $230,000 and $330,000. The design team, which is being headed by RR’s chief stylist, Ian Cameron, will be tackling the design work.

The firm is already enjoying great success with a flood of orders for its forthcoming 101EX convertible, and the company is poised to sell even more vehicles with the construction of an all new model. Since taking ownership of the company from Volkswagen, BMW has been desperate to release several new models for RR.

The new car will be similar in size to the 101EX and will share parts with the 7-series in an effort to save development costs. The planned engine, most likely a BMW derived V12 will be mated to a new six-speed transmission also developed by BMW. Expect RR’s traditional effortless performance and features such as an aluminum structure and intricate space frame to be adopted.

Excellent and expected. Still at a premium but far more attainable. I think this is a darn smart move that will lead to a more sensible RR.

this is truely great for the masses. i hope they do come out with a model that gives competetion to the S class and the BMW 7 series (even though it is their own brand). this would surely give them an edge and people like me the chance to think about buying one in the future. now i have more incentive to work harder.

And now....a smaller Maybach as well.

Quote:
BMW and Mercedes seem to always be caught up playing a game of "anything you can do, I can do better", so shortly after BMW's über-luxury brand Rolls-Royce announced it's extending the range down-market, Maybach is following suite.
The confirmation of the "baby Maybach" came from the very top: DaimlerChyrsler chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche, who verified the new limo would be ready within four years, though the definitive decision has not yet been made over whether the new car will carry the three-pointed star (extending the Mercedes range up-market) or the double-M (broadening the Maybach range down-market). The smart money's on the Maybach, though, as the S-Class has always been Mercedes' range-topping luxury sedan.
Like BMW, whose line-up has a huge gap between the $120k 760Li and the $330k RR Phantom, Mercedes-Benz has nothing to cover the $200k-range left vacant in between the $140k S600 and the $335k Maybach 57. Currently, Bentley (owned by their mutual rival VW/Audi group) has the field to itself with the $165k Continental Flying Spur and $220k Arnage sedans.
The awkward Maybach range hasn't been quite the success DaimlerChrysler had been hoping for, so it'll be interesting to see how they do with a new quarter-million-dollar sedan.

Hours upon hours of lying prone on the frozen tundra of the Arctic Circle have paid off for KGP's hardcore spy shooters. An upright test mule has been spotted running around at BMW's facility in the frozen hinterlands. There have been rumors of a smaller Roller swirling about, and these shots seem to support the conjecture. BMW's 7-series will reportedly serve as the basis for the new luxury whip, and the car in the photos appears identical to the surrounding 7's from the A-pillar back. The stiff upper lip has likely been grafted on to facilitate cooling and airflow for the engine room. Plus, you could do worse than an E65 with a better schnoz and an old-world interior. Check out all five spy shots in the gallery below.
Spy Shots: Baby Rolls nabbed - Autoblog

Quote:
To call Rolls-Royce a small automaker would be an understatement as big as their cars are. Its model line-up, recently expanded to include the Drophead Coupe, consists solely of two derivatives of the Phantom. For the first time in the company's history, production in 2007 capped the 1,000 mark. So when Rolls-Royce confirms a new model, it's a big deal. Earlier this week at the Detroit show, Rolls-Royce chief Ian Robertson confirmed that the anticipated "baby Rolls", which we saw in spy shots as recently as yesterday, is slated for unveiling in 2010. Code-named RR4, Robertson also announced that the car would receive a brand new engine, presumably because the Phantom's 450-hp V12 doesn't fit. The car is expected to be based on the BMW 7-Series, which explains why the mule seen in yesterday's spy shots was accompanied by BMW's big sedan, slotting in between the Bavarian sedan and the Phantom limo.
While he was at it, Robertson also confirmed that the fixed-roof Phantom coupe previewed by the 101EX concept would begin delivery by this coming summer.

Awesome!! Thats one sweet find!
A matter of time, and the 'baby' Rolls will be featured everywhere. Wonder if any of the upcoming auto shows in the US/EU plan to feature this car.

It's gonna lose all its British charm if they base it on the 7 series as the reports are saying. In my opinion, who needs a cheaper Rolls?
If you want anything cheaper, you just go buy the most expensive Jaguar or Bentley.
Or else, buy a Cadillac.
