The old EVO had one biiiig problem. To get that 400bhp they put in a massive turbo charger which would take a long time to spool. I remember one topgear episode where Jeremy demonstrated the turbo lag by putting a Fiat Panda and the EVO in a drag. The car's were put in 3rd gear and started. The Panda disappeared while the EVO was crawling.

I also saw that one. I remembered it vs the Mini but maybe it was a Fiat Panda. Going @60kmph, the Evo didn't manage to even close the gap in the straight on the test track.
Also, he showed how easily the car would stall !

Its a japanese saloon on steroids we are talking about, not an out and out italian sports car. Since when did japanese saloons appealed to the heart?
I always though japanese == head.

FQ me. I wish it didn't cost this much though, or I'd buy one next year!

Well, all cars actually. Jap cars do generally appeal to the head, but not all!

Actually the Evo IX had an FQ 450 version as well. It was done by the same guys (Owen Developments) who did the "official" Evo IX FQ 400 for Mitsubishi UK.

Have a look at Owen Developments To Unveil 450bhp Lancer Evo Technology OR Owen Developments to Unveil 450 bhp Lancer Evo Technology | RSportsCars.com

Cheers,

Yep, we do know what "FQ" stands for Jeremy Clarkson Mitsubishi Evo VIII review | Driving - Times Online

Amazing is not the word. Not sure if even 'supercars' can match 200 bhp per litre.

The highest spec Evos outrun Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis around the track - why wouldn't this be bought by people from the heart ?
Its an out an out driver's car and lightning quick around corners. And the technical wizardry is state of art. There are other Japs like the Imprezza, Nissan 350Z (now 370Z) that are cars bought from the heart! Heck, some lightning quick drives in a colleague's 350Z on the A-bahn's convinced me about the heart over head equation. I mean why would you pay Euro 40K on a Nissan, otherwise (for a two-seater with no boot space) ?

You havent gone through all the replies, have you? My point was, if someone's looking for Japanese car that goes around the corners faster than anyone else, whats wrong with the Nissan GTR that comes for almost the same money. To start with the turbo lag problem wont be there because it has a 3.8 Litre V6 lump to start with, second it makes even more power, thirdly is better looking (subjective) and fourth it has pedigree.
