Thats the reason for too much hype over the new engine

Ok even at motor trend its given the same. The Mustang although with few horses at 315 Hp was still very competitive because they stayed in production.Thats why the speed times are excellent for the Mustang GT.Here it is once again. Camaro 0-100 Km/hr time is 4.8 s and the quarter mile comes in 13 secs. For the Mustang GT , it's 4.9 secs and 13.5 secs. And I think that is the only reason why there is so much hype over Ford Mustangs latest V8 5 litre engine. Its more powerful and it's 20 % lighter in weight also. I actualy have a feeling the 2011 Mustang will be gunning possibly the Corvette now

2011 Ford Mustang specs hit the Web

It says - Combined with Ford’s latest track pack, the 2011 Mustang GT reportedly lapped Michigan’s GingerMan Raceway dead-even with the current BMW M3 — despite a 200 pound weight disadvantage.

Yeah I've read this before.See that's what i mean. This V8 engine from Ford is a monster. We don't really need a review to test the 2011 V8. We all know it's gonna blast it's way from stop.Only thing is , the competition now like the camaro has to either increase their HP's or shed some weight to keep up to the Mustang.

Ok gyus, there is a first drive review of the V6 at motor trend website. They say the 2011 V6 is much much more refined than the 2010 model V6 Mustang and it easily beats the Camaro V6 with a little upgrade to the suspension. They have not raced the car yet.Prices now are as follows.

2011 Mustang V6 basic - 23,000 $
2011 Mustang V6 Premium - 26,600 $

Chevy will definitely do something about that, but not till 2012. So i guess till then, the Mustang is thw inner.

Na 2012 is too early for Chevy to better the Camaro. It'll take a lot longer than that to beat this Mustang. It is as if Ford was just waiting to see what was the best the competition could offer. And just after the Camaro was out , their ready to bring out their 2011 V8 Monster just to show who is on top.Ford unlike Chevrolet were still in production of the Mustang all these years. And that really shows in their products now. Awesome War going between the Americans.

Would like to know the V8's pricing. Anyone in US with any idea on it please share with us,would be thoughtful.

Ford has not announced the prices for the 2011 Mustangs. From speculations I have read on the web, I am expecting an increase of around 1500$ - 2000$. That should put the base Mustang GT at a little over 30,000$

There is this one website which claims it got hold of leaked prices

Thanks a lot Tacho , Planning to get myself one of these beauties. I heard Ford is making only 500 of these beauties first. So I guess I'll have to book it way in advance (well before that i need to start saving for it too.)It'll be either the Mustang GT or Shelby if the price is within 45,000 $.

You are welcome. Where did you hear about Ford making just 500 of these? The Mustang is selling at more than 6000 units per month even in these tough times and I am sure Ford will go all out to make as many new Mustangs as possible. Keep in mind, it's just a new powertrain, not a whole new car.

Well I read it at some forum. Forgot which one. But it said initially it would be 500 and after that it would be market driven.

2011 Mustang GT Dyno Tested !!!

Guess what, as if the hype for the GT was already not enough . Motor Trend guys now say that Ford has actually under stated the power of their Car's. The other manufacturer to have done that would be Nissan to their GTR .

Ok so here is what it is, let the figures speak for themselves

2011 Mustang 5.0
Ford's Claimed horsepower: 412 hp @ 6500 rpm
Claimed torque: 390 lb-ft @ 4250 rpm

Actual horsepower: 435 hp 6500 rpm
Actual torque: 404 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm

2011 Mustang V-6
Ford's Claimed horsepower: 305 hp @ 6500 rpm
Claimed torque: 280 lb-ft @ 4250 rpm

Actual horsepower: 308 hp @ 6700 rpm
Actual torque: 287 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm
Can't wait till Monday for the car's track test even still can't wait for the showdown with the Camaro !!!!

im not sure of the stang, but Nissan are not actually underplaying the true power of the GT-R. the thing is, due to the way these engines are manufactured, one cannot make a absolutely accurate estimation of each engine. AFAIK, nissan claims the GT-R produces about 485 BHP, but some mag in the US, tested the GT-R and claimed it had over 500 BHP. saw this on TG, if you didnt realize..
Cheers!!

This has always not been the case . I don't remember which season and episode of top gear , but when Hamster tested out the Shelby Version of the Mustang (500hp) it was actually much lower. I guess it was less by 70hp.
Now it's the other way round. Or there might be something wrong with the dyno run's.

That's very true Arjun ,even i watched that episode. There are 2 reasons for that very low value put out by TG, me thinks

1) The HP was tested only at 3rd gear and not above it. Motor Trend guys have dyno'd it at 4th gear and got these figures.

2)The HP stated by Ford is the Fly Wheel Hp and not rwhp. RWHP is lesser and comes to around 395 rwhp , however the fly wheel HP is around 450 !!!

So i believe this is what that could have brought a huge difference in the result of Top Gear.

Now isn't that understated ?? 485 and over 500 HP, maybe both these manufacturers want to stay on the safer side ,so they tell a little lower HP value.
