First official pics: 2010-11 Mustang 5.0 V8 GT and BOSS 302 R

2011 Ford Mustang GT with 412HP 5.0-liter V8 Officially Revealed - Carscoop

5.0 V8 GT PICS IN RED

The Mustang 5.0 or as purists prefer to call it, the 302, makes a comeback for the 2011 model year with the presentation of the new GT that will be shown to the public for the first time at next month's Detroit auto show.

To recap, the GT's new 5.0-liter V8 engine employs 32-valves and Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) delivering 412 horsepower and 390 ft.-lb. of torque, compared to the outgoing 2010 Mustang GT 4.6-liter V8's, 315HP and 325 lb-ft.

Ford says that the V8 engine, as shipped, weighs 430 pounds or 195 kg representing a weight savings of more than 20 percent over the previous 5.0-liter offering.
The new 5.0-liter Mustangs also replace the previous GT's five-speed transmissions with either the 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission or the MT82 six-speed manual gearbox.

With the automatic transmission, the 2011 Mustang GT will deliver up to an estimated 25 mpg highway and 17 in the city, up from 23 mpg highway and 17 city for the 2010 model. The Six-speed manual transmission Mustang GT models are projected to deliver 24 mpg highway and 16 city, matching the 2010 model.

Ford has not disclosed performance figures, but just to get an idea, the current 315HP GT hits 60mph (96km/h) from standstill in just 4.9 seconds. In other words, the new GT should give the 426HP Camaro SS and 425HP Challenger SRT-8 a run for their money.

Along with the new engine and transmissions, the new GT also gets a specially tuned Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS), 11.5-inch front and 11.8-inch rear vented disc brakes, and an enhanced suspension featuring an improved rear lower control arm and stiffened rear stabilizer bushings.

There's also an optional Brembo brake package upgrade that includes 14-inch vented front discs from the GT500 Mustang, specific 19-inch alloy wheels and summer performance tires.

Other updates include the 5.0 fender badges, the speedometer that increases to 160 mph and the tachometer redline that climbs from 6,500 to 7,000 rpm.

More information on the 2011 Mustang GT will be released at the Detroit Motor Show in mid-January 2010.

BOSS 302 R PICS IN YELLOW

New Ford Mustang BOSS 302R: A $79,000 5.0 GT Track Racer - Carscoop

Along with the new 2011 Mustang GT 5.0-liter V8, Ford also took the covers off a track version of its updated pony car called the BOSS 302R in honor of the 40th anniversary of Parnelli Jones' 1970 Trans-Am championship in a Mustang BOSS 302 prepared by Bud Moore Engineering.

Set to replace the Mustang FR500C, the BOSS 302R features the GT's new 5.0-liter V8 engine coupled to a six-speed manual transmission and comes equipped with a roll cage, race seats, safety harness, data acquisition and race dampers/springs, and a Brembo brake and tire package.

The base Mustang BOSS 302R racer retails at $79,000.

If you're looking for something more hardcore, Ford also offers the M-FR500-BOSS R1 that's eligible to compete in the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series (formerly known as KONI Challenge), starting with the season-opening race in Daytona on Jan. 29, 2010.

Priced at $129,000, this version features a sealed high-output race engine with an upgraded cooling system, a close-ratio six-speed transmission with integral shifter, a seam-welded body, race suspension/KONI dampers and ABS brake tuning, race performance exhaust and a high-speed balance one-piece driveshaft.

Ford said that a total of 50 BOSS 302R Mustangs will be built by the firm's racing division with first deliveries anticipated in the third quarter of 2010.

oops started a thread like this accidently

Just started a thread like this yesterday.Didn't actually see it before. The Camaro and Challeneger will definitely be up in the dust now. One thing i didn't know was that the new engine was 20 % lighter. How on earth is Ford doing all this at one time(Good performance and Mileage as well). Maybe it's their best kept secret to avenge the Camaro finally.

Well that could be the only slight glitch in the Mustang, Ford is still using the primitive suspension setup. Their reason is that they were able to cut costs significantly because of that.Either ways handling does not get affected so much.

The best part of the new Mustang is, It's actually a totally Practical Sports car. With equally mind boggling performance and mileage for a sports car. The 25 miles per gallon is actually around 11km/litre in our conversion.Thats actually better than some cars on indians roads now

Ford has done quite a lot in this one. But i still prefer the looks of the current Mustang GT. I don't like the alloys, the positioning of the antenna, the headlights and tail lights. In a nutshell, i pretty much don't like anything they changed

Yes thats very true. Design wise the 2011 Mustang looks blunt. The Chevy Camaro looks way better. The major upgrade here is only the engine.Ford could have left the looks the way it was.Either way I just love the Mustang.A little upgrade later to the bonnet and Tail could fix the design issues. We could turn it into a tuner rather than a muscle car.

Actually their rivalries date back to the time my great grand father was born. And the 2010 Camaro was just a slap in Fords face when they suddenly pulled out a Camaro from their hat after an absence of nearly 40 years. The Challenger though is just still sleeping.

I was very upset when i saw the 2010 Chevy Camaro in Flesh. It was so stunning to look at and with that awesome engine I thought it was game over for Ford.My friends got it here in Kuwait. Will start a thread of his Camaro this weekend (with pics).

But then to my glee I found out about Ford's plans for a 2011 Mustang GT. I was so happy that i don't think I was even this happy while getting through my 12th grade.

Why is that? I still prefer the 2010 Camaro ss to the 2011 Mustang GT. The ss looks killer in black.

It's because the 2010 Mustang GT was a tad close to the performance of the 2010 Camaro , but the 2010 GT had only 315 horses so it lost pretty bad in the long run. The 2011 GT now has increased its HP to 427. Which means it'll just rip through the Camaro

Look wise i admit , the Camaro does look a little better than the Mustang, but only a little k.

Stan, i'd like to correct you here. The Camaro manual, is a 6.2 V8, churning out 426 HP and 569 Nm torque. It does 0 - 100 in 4.6 secs. The Mustang is 325 lb-ft, which equates to 440 Nm.

P.S - im not trying to turn this into a camaro vs mustang war. Heck even i love the Mustang more than the Camaro.

I am not really sure about the torque for both the car's , but you are right about the horse power's. But the speed test's for the 0-100 Km/hr run for the Camaro was 4.8 secs and for the Mustang GT was 4.9 secs according to Edmunds. The Mustang looses to both the cars(the other being the Challenger) only in the long run because of very few horses. Which i think the 2011 GT fixes.
