Additional Information

So we are at final round of the triple header. Austrian GP turned on it head with double retirement for Mercs and Ricarrdo's retirement. Also, tyre management was key for the Austrian GP. Silverstone is also known for being hard on the tyres. Pirelli have gone for a harder tyres selection (Hard, Medium, Soft) as compared to last year (Medium,Soft,Supersoft)

Another interesting change is that there is a third DRS zone starting from the start finish straight and ending before "Village" corner (turn 3). Now the cars were flat out through "Abbey" (turn 1) and "Farm" (turn 2) last year. But alot of drivers have reservations that will they be able go flat out at turn 1 and 2 following a car with the DRS open. So we may see some drivers wearing the heart on their sleeves and going for it.

British GP is the home race for alot of teams including Mercs so lets see what British GP has in store for us. Let the races begin.

Race and all other sessions would be telecast on Star Sport Select 2 HD/Star Sport Select 2

If you are wondering if Q2 is coming tomorrow morning. Canned but not live. We should be thankful for small mercies.

A great qualifying session with Lewis Hamilton ekeing out a record 6th pole in Silverstone by the slenderest of margins. 0.044 seconds. The Ferraris looked strong on the pace in qualifying and despite Mercedes big bang aero upgrades in Austria, Ferrari seem to have the measure of that. Raikkonen did flatter to receive in his last timed run but starting 2,3 Ferrari do have a chance. Going to be an interesting race. The Red Bull may try to spoil the party starting from 5th and 6th respectively.

One driver who continues to impress massively is Leclerc. What a consistent performance from this guy. Absolutely class and I hope he gets a strong car under him. If so might be a potential world champion. Not as talented as Verstappen perhaps but very consistent and clever in his racing.

Another track that rewards power units so reliability and tyre wear might play a role.

Drive on,
Shibu.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 British Grand Prix

What a race! What a race!

Absolutely wonderful drive from Vettel; right from the superb takeoff from the grid, to holding it together in the final moments and overtaking Bottas.

Immense respect for Hamilton; a second place finish after that disastrous start and going down to 14th place is commendable. I wonder if that last minute overtake on Bottas was "team strategy".

I feel terrible for Bottas though; pressure clearly got the better of him. From 1st to 4th during the last few moments of the race. The two safety car periods probably played a part in who was where in the top-four finish.

A humdinger of a race. A blinding start from Vettel to beat Hamilton into the first corner and the pace of the Ferrari ensured smooth sailing at the head of the pack till the safety cars played riot. Another case in which Bottas' drive was ruined by Mercedes. Pitting him for tyres during the VSC was crucial. At this rate they might as well play the Driver number one strategy rather that screw up Bottas every time he is driving well. They deserved what Nico dished out to them in the last year. Flashes of that old Raikkonen brilliance as he swept up through the ranks after his stop. Did make a cryptic comment on his performance not being recognised in certain quarters. I guess we will be hearing more on that in the next few days.

My post yesterday seemed to have jinxed Leclerc today as he had a DNF after a stellar series of races.

Ferrari lead the constructor's and driver's championships. For now....

Drive on,
Shibu

Ferrari used interesting tactics claims Lewis about the opening lap action.

Uh oh the toys are flying thick and fast around the pram. Agree that emotions are running high for Lewis , but this claim is ridiculously silly coming from a 4 time champion .

Well, in that case, his penultimate lap "overtake" of Bottas could also be labelled as team tactic. One that was much more apparent than the Ferrari "tactics".

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 British Grand Prix

Awesome race! Especially the last 10 laps with Ferrari attacking both the Mercs, thanks to the back to back safety car period. Brilliant recovery drive by Hamilton. Raikkonen was good too. Bottas was unlucky again.

A very close fight between Ferrari and Mercedes for the constructor championship. And a super close fight between Renault, Haas, Force India and McLaren with just 22 points splitting them.

The timing of commercial break during the telecast was really pathetic .

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 British Grand Prix

Great race by Sebastian. He looked in control from the word go. And Ferrari, got the strategy spot on. Bravosimo !
Hamilton needs to get hold of his emotions. He's rattled by the Austrian weekend. He wanted that win so badly, and Ferrari made him work for the pole. Emotionally charged, he was all over the place after taking pole. He had a bad start, and it was a fault by Kimi. He locked up, forcing Hamilton wide. But all the comments by him and Toto, thats just unnecessary. They should refrain from it.
It's just halfway mark, and all six racers have a chance to win the championship. Its a stupid statement to say it was deliberate. All this makes Hamilton look a sore loser.
Poor Leclerc was having a good race, sad for him. Ericsson had a huge incident. Bad day for Sauber despite good qualifying. Alonso again ended top 10. Good job.

All said, best race of the season in terms of action.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 British Grand Prix

Very unsporting comments from both Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff.

Lewis Hamilton:
"All l would say is that it's two races in which a Ferrari has taken out a Mercedes. Valtteri and I have both lost out in those situations."

Toto Wolff:
"To put it in James Allison's [Mercedes technical chief] words, this is either deliberate or incompetence."

Surely Vettel who is competing with Lewis for the championship won't think that jeopardizing his own race to take out Bottas will help his championship challenge?

In my opinion, Mercedes didn't even have the pace to run with Ferrari today. Vettel took the lead at T1 on lap one and pulled an easy gap over Bottas. Hamilton's coming together with Raikkonen didn't help Vettel get into the lead anyway.

Good on Raikkonen to accept it was his mistake and saying the penalty was fair. Genuine incident where he locked up and ended up with understeer.

Lewis came into the triple header with a 14 point lead. Leaves the triple header with an 8 point deficit. Hope the championship stays this tight until the end.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 British Grand Prix

Fantastic race. Due to traffic I couldn’t make it home on time for the race. Pulled over to the side to watch the start thinking i would watch a few laps and then drive home to watch the rest. Ended up watching the whole race for 2 hours parked on side road. Lol.

The Ferraris were quick from the start which is the whole reason Kimi ended up in contact with Lewis cause he was too slow!! Vetted got away but Kimi got stuck. The same thing happened last week with Vettel. Vettel had a slow merc on his side and in front with nowhere to go having the quicker car. Obviously having the quicker car Kimi would go for the opportunity and Lewis was checking his mirrors as soon as lights turned green cause he knew the Ferraris were quicker. In the end it was a racing incident but Kimi got penalised. He did accept it graciously which was sporting of him. However LEwis and Mercedes saying it was cheap tactics is unsporting.

Silverstone is one interesting circuit!! I was there last month for seeing some smaller races with classic cars and it was a whole lot of fun. Seeing the F1 cars looked surreal as to how much quicker they were. Also the track has some fast corners which you can overtake on as we saw. That made it fun. Usually its just passing under braking from a long straight and into a tight corner.

Yes! And the idiot commentator wouldn't even zip it when they were relaying the team radio.

Also, the quality of the team radio conversations is really poor; I think they need to work on the volume. Not sure how feasible it is, but probably provide subtitles.

Great race! Fantastic drives by Vettel, Hamilton(despite the poor start) and Kimi (despite the contact with LH and the 10 second penalty).

Was grinning ear to ear from lap 44 onwards with the Ferraris hunting down the Mercs. What a great season this is turning out to be.

Hotstar is the best option IMO. No commercials breaks. The sports package is just 300 bucks a year. Throw in the other sporting events like the Wimbledon, other grand slams and cricket, it is real value for money. Their highlights are better than the ones uploaded in youtube as well. And if you watch on the mobile app, I don't think one even has to have the sports package. Mobile with good headphones is not a bad way to watch.

Well, Hamilton is a drama queen and not surprised with his comments there. But comments from Wolf and Allison are more surprising and a disgrace. We will see if they will at least issue a superficial apology.

Yes. There is huge backlash from the community for the comments it seems. Also, Hamilton has no one to blame but himself for the poor start, which led him vulnerable to attack from Kimi. Toto implying Kimi is incompetent(What!???) or deliberately causing harm is unprofessional to say the least. Good replies from Seb and Kimi to LH during the press conference as well. Surely this will heat up the championship race further.
