re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

I think I stopped watching F1 sometimes ago, but, I think, I liked Mika Häkkinen over his immediate rival when I was watching.

Also, the other Finnish, Kimi. Senna is a legend, but I never saw him on a track live on TV.

re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

My favourite has to be Sebastian Vettel but that is just because I was not alive or not into formula 1 when the magician Ayrton senna was driving. I love him after watching many old videos of his.
This video of his which has been termed as the lap of god's is one of my favourite

Re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

My all-time favourite and the last F1 driver I truly supported is Michael Schumacher. This portrait is placed just above my office desk.

On the no.2 spot are drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen etc. But Schumacher is no.1 by a huge margin for me. I don't think I'll ever be a fan of any other driver as I am of Schumy.

Re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

My all time favourite driver is Ayrton Senna and will always be number 1 in my book.

Number two on my list is Sir Lewis Hamilton. I started following him during his GP2 career and then dug out all the clips on YouTube when he was in Formula Renault and Formula 3. All of you who haven't seen what LH can do in equal cars please check out these clips on YouTube. You may change his opinion about him.

Apart from the above my other favourite drivers are Damon Hill, Mika Hakkinen, Kimi Raikkonen, Reubens Barrichello and Stefan Bellof.

Re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

Might be an unpopular opinion but as much as I admire Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Daniel Ricciardo, etc., my favourite of all time has got to be Mika Hakkinen. Schumacher himslef named The Flying Finn to be the toughest competition that he ever faced, winning two world championships and beating Michael Schumacher at his prime.

This overtake at Spa, 2000, perfectly sums up why I consider him to be my favourite driver of all time.

Re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

I have utmost respect and fan-love for Jim Clark. His propensity to race - just race, race and race more, in any series in any country, his driving style, his disposition to nurture the car like no other driver, I became a massive fan the more I got to know about him as a racer! My favourite driver of all time.

I am fan of Ayrton Senna and Fernando Alonso as well, indomitable spirits and racers to the core. They aren't perfect, but they both got immense character and speed!

Re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

My personal theory is that the anyone's F1 favourite driver is the person who was the champion of the first season they watched properly. This is the sole reason I would always prefer Sebastian Vettel over any other driver.

That said, in the recent crop, my preferred driver would be Max Verstrappen and the reason would be the awesome save he did in Brazil during 2016

Re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

My all-time favorite like most of the BHPians here is the one & only
1. Michael Schumacher

Next comes:
2. Sebastian Vettel
3. Kimi Räikkönen
4. Charles Leclerc
5. Daniel Ricciardo
6. Max Verstappen
7. Lewis Hamilton
8. Sergio Pérez
9. Nico Hülkenberg
10. Valtteri Bottas

In that order. Changes every year for me. Except for the top 3.

Re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

My all time favorite has to be Michael Schumacher, the reasons are very clear. The form from where he brought Ferrari to the multiple championships is just amazing. His ability to get the maximum from the car and the team was un-paralleled. Some of the races he won during the 2000-2004 dominance were exceptional & he did not have it easy from 2002-2004 for winning the championships. After Michael, I think in terms pure driver talent Fernando Alonso & Charles Leclerc come very close. Again both of them have the ability to go that one step ahead and get the maximum from the car even if the car is not the class of the field. Just look at Fernando's 2010 & 2012 season with Ferrari, what he was able to achieve and take the championship to the wire was un-real. Ditto for Charles 2020 season, the car overall was probably 5th or 6th fastest or worse most of the times but he was still able to get results. Ayrton, was also someone who made a huge impact but did not have a chance to see him during his highs, but if he would have lived on, he would have given Michael a run for his money. On the other hand, Lewis has greatly benefitted from the car being so good, best example was in Bahrain when Russel was able to almost win the GP in-spite of no experience of driving a fast car. As driver his impact does not seem to be great, maybe if Nico had stuck on the rivalry would have painted a different picture. Max, I think, is too impatient while he has great ability but he needs to work on himself to become a great driver and achieve results.

Re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

One who made F1 boring with no real competition even though there were quite a few good drivers (depends upon car as well).
The one and the only shoemaker!
I used to call him that because of his similar sounding last name even though I was not aware at the time that it's what his last name meant.

Re: Your favourite F1 driver of all time

For me it was Michael Schumacher obviously. Through him only I started watching F1 since 1998 and along with Steve Slater I got addicted to it. Dial back to 2006, I was in tears when Michael's engine blowup at Suzuka which took away his 8th WDC. By end of 2006 he retired. But 2009 winters gave the biggest news. The King is back with Mercs Works Team. But by 2012 I was thoroughly disappointed. He was never a driver like his past. Lots of mistakes and reaction time issues.

My current favourite is Lewis Hamilton.

My pick would be Sebastian Vettel too. Dominant in a non dominant car, iconic races that I will never forget - 2012 Abu Dhabi GP from pitlane to P3. Brazil 2012 was just a showcase of his abilities.
And of course -
Hamilton p2, Button p3, Rosberg p4, Kubica.....Kubica p5... DU BIST WELTMEISTER! - 2010 Abu Dhabi GP, Still anthem to my ears
