Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Belgian Grand Prix | Spa-Francorchamps | 27-29 August 2021

Disappointing to see the race being called off at one of the greatest tracks in the world. Hope they return to Spa for Round 21 (19-21 November) which is still TBC. Would be a good mid-point between the Brazil (05-07 November) and Saudi (03-05 December).

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Belgian Grand Prix | Spa-Francorchamps | 27-29 August 2021

Disappointing end to a race weekend which promised so much! I don't recall any other race in recent history other than Malaysia 2009 where we had half points awarded.

Agreed there was no racing this time, but it's such a rare event, and to not award any points would have been unfair overall. It's the same as when you can't have a full qualifying where you use FP3 classification as starting grid (again, i don't recall any examples of this either). Also may be there are some financial implications of not awarding points.

What i found more amusing was that nobody (race control primarily) had any clue on where we stood for a long time. I am sure it was not the first time when a race started behind a safety car, so why was there so much confusion whether those laps behind the safety car counted as race laps or not?

Unlikely. It could be cold, icy and slippery.

Wish we get another Bahrain race. The new Qatar and Saudi tracks don't look good for overtaking or racing.

A weekend to forget honestly. Russel is jinxed

What a joke. The race officials knew there was no way the race could happen, so send out everyone on the minimum 2 laps just to qualify as a "race". Pathetic! Naturally, no one can control the weather, but they could certainly have shown common sense and avoided making the race a joke like this. Just call it off, it happens, why compound an unfortunate situation with stupid bureaucratic folly?!

The 2 lap race means fans won't get a refund. As Lewis said its all about the money and legally a 2 lap distance over the track is enough to finish a race and award points. So all the stake holders won't loose any money.
They should race again, its unfair for the fans and even the teams who are just outside the points.

Alan van der Merwe should have been given Driver of the day award. Also he lead the so called 'race' from start to finish.

The pundits are right in calling this a shitshow. Sport was put second to money. I am not surprised by this a bit, but there should have been a provision for an extra day...especially for Spa. Very bad PR day for F1.

IMO, fair decision and result, considering the situation.
However, the call could have been made early to not keep everyone waiting...

Sympathies to the crowd though. Whether they need to be refunded or not, is completely a different story.

Great that the race was called off or it could have been a repeat of 1998. Watch it on YouTube.

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Belgian Grand Prix | Spa-Francorchamps | 27-29 August 2021

The triple-header (of which Spa was the 1st event) would've made an extra day difficult, plus the forecast for the next couple days reportedly wasn't much better.

It's always money-first, of course. Sucks for the trackside fans, hope they get reimbursed (or get offered tickets for next year's event).

I remember watching this race live on television back then. Certainly one of the most horrific accidents ever on a race track. IIRC, fortunately no one was seriously injured.

I remember Schumacher storming into Maclaren garage baying for Coulthard's head.
