Kimi Raikkonen has announced his retirement at the end of 2021 season. This will be Raikkonen’s last season after being in F1 for 20 years.

Kimi is currently with Alfa Romeo and is partnered with Antonio Giovinazzi who’s contract will also come to an end at the end of the season.

Re: Kimi Raikkonen to retire from F1

Kimi ICEMAN Raikkonen is probably one of the unluckiest F1 drivers ever. For all the talent and temperament that he possessed, Kimi deserved to be a 'multiple' F1 champion. His calm demeanor is peerless. A true champion indeed.

Mercedes will now announce Russell for 2022 and Bottas moves to Alfa Romeo. Perhaps this announcement was what Toto Wolff was waiting for. Let’s see what happens.

Cheers

Re: 2021 Formula 1 silly season

One of the most experienced F1 driver is gonna be retiring after this season. His career came a full circle with him ending his innings with the same team he started with.
Things will start to fall in place now, most likely Alfa will confirm Bottas, Mercedes Russell. Lets see who lands the Williams seat, there is gonna be a stiff competition for it, really hope Hulkenberg or Albon get the williams seat.

Re: Kimi Raikkonen to retire from F1

Kimi can finally have his drink with no interruptions Hahaha. The ICEMAN will be missed. Although I haven’t watched him live during his prime, I’ve seen a million of his highlights on YouTube. I think more than his driving, I’ll remember his interviews and radio chats Eyyy Give me my gloves and steering wheel. Eyyy the steering wheel. Whenever he’s in the pit, that’s what comes to my mind, lol. There’s no sportsperson on this planet that gives out replies like how Kimi gives. What a legend. He’s had a great career and I’m glad he’s retiring and giving his seat to fresher talent.

Here’s his record over the years:

Re: Kimi Raikkonen to retire from F1

I think it was time for him to retire, watching the ICEMAN drive a car that’s not worthy for his talent was tough. However, although he has retired from driving the F1 car I wouldn’t want him to leave F1, he is far too knowledgeable and witty can easily be commentator or a team principal heck, Ferrari should replace Binotto with him.

On other hand, now that Kimi has announced his retirement and Giovinazzi’s contract is also about to end, there are gonna be some serious changes in the next few weeks involving Mercedes, Williams and Alfa Romeo.

Re: Kimi Raikkonen to retire from F1

End of an era. Used to follow the races eagerly back when Steve Slater used to refer to him on air as "young Kimi Raikkonen." (Haven't watched a race in a while though and now I have one less reason to.)

Kimi will always be special, won in a Ferrari and entered a snowmobile race as 'James Hunt'. Says a lot about the man. Can't see him as a commentator or team principal, guy hardly communicates and that's another great thing about him.

Hope he enjoys his retirement doing whatever the heck he wants to! "Leave him alone he knows what he's doing!" Go Kimi!

Re: Kimi Raikkonen to retire from F1

Sad, but kind of saw this coming for a few years. No more of "Bwoah", "Mwoah" & "I know what I'm doing, just leave me alone" and no more seeing RAI on the timing screens. Kimi will be missed, he is one hell of a character and his temperment is unmatched.

That now leaves 1 seat free at Alfa Romeo (if GIO is not dropped), which probably will be taken up by Callum Illot or Mick, who will then be replaced by the former.

Williams have not revealed how many seats are left, but I guess we all know that a decision has been made. It's just a waiting game at this point.

That leaves Mercedes, AlphaTauri, Haas (IIRC) to be the other teams with seats left.

Re: Kimi Raikkonen to retire from F1

Thanks for all the racing & entertainment, Kimi . But about time you retired. Now, can the other oldie (Alonso) retire as well to make way for newer & fresher talent?

If you haven't already, would recommend reading this book! It is quite the read:

Re: Kimi Raikkonen to retire from F1

Well, he couldn't go on forever. Everything must come to an end. Entertaining fellow for sure. I'm friends with some of his school-mates in Espoo, Finland where he grew up. He's pretty much been a "Leave me alone" kind of guy all his life so I don't hope to see him suddenly pop-up in Finnish social circle. Heck, he might continue life in Southern Europe just for the weather much like Mika Häkkinen.

If I can hope for something, I hope he shows up at the go-karting track he started his track days at - Bembole karting. He still donates to the place annually and has just now donated for new asphalt. How do I know this? Well my 5 yr old girl drives a go-kart donated by Kimi on the same track!

pian nähdään Kimi!

I think Alonso has a lot more to prove and also has a lot more fire in the belly so to speak. Most times recently, I feel Kimi just gives up a bit too easy.

Not with Alonso. He would rather die than give up.
