Re: Life With Italian Beauty, 100,000 Completed,Fiat Palio 1.9 D

Hi Parimal,

I'v not used the Palio for a long drive during night, i have Innova for that.
But i will be starting to use Palio for long drive as my innova is now parked in my native place.

In bangalore city i found its ok to have the philips H1 white light. Its better than OE bulbs and gives more clarity even on the wet road (wet road is too dark).
If you go for 130/100 W ordinary halogen then power & lenght of light travel will be more but clarity will not be as good as our white light which is 90/100 i believe.

I have used white bulbs from philips in my innova and also 130/100 bulbs too. White one was good enough for city and high ways.

How is the condition of your Palio's head light? This also can affect the clarity.
mine is brand new piece IJL (OE) make. One set costs me more than 5K for the head light assembly.
But its worth and gives nice look too. You can try cleaning your head light.

When you use higher wattage bulbs always fit a electronic cut outer.

Regarding the "pulley', the garage guy (miles auto in hennur- bangalore) is blaming it on vendor. But my friend who changed wagon R's power window switch also had the same issue. OE costs rs 400 and he charged him Rs800. So i feel difficult to digest the vendor story.

In prerana motors the pulley costs around 2000 bucks and many of the PUG (palio user group- yahoo) also bought it below 2100 bucks.

Regards

Let me know how is the Head light through is now, are you seeing any improvement, currently i have OSRAM blue vision they are better than stock but not enough for the night driving.

Hi Parimal,

I was charged very high for the altenator pulley (5.8K) and the work done at m iles automobiles was not so good. I had bad time.

The pulley replacement was done not in a proper manner with in 4 days the belt slightly got misplaced and peeled off and got stuck in to the inner parts , timing got changed and the camshaft pulley's lock got cut and resulted in engine work.

Vehicle was towed to prerana motors and from there to gowri and work is going on.

Hi Tornado,

Yes the cost for the pulley charged to you is very high, and getting a proper mechanic for Fiat cars and Specially for 1.9 D is very Difficult. As to work on the such a compact bay is tedious work, i was lucky as B U Bhandari was servicing the Fiats till July 2011, now i have found a good garage in Mumbai, they are Fiat Specialist.
Really feeling sad to know your 1.9 D is again in workshop, hope the damage is not much and parts are available at workshop. Keep us updated on the progress.

Hi Parimal,

We have Gowri motors in Bangalore and they do good job. many of the PUG (palio user group) also go there. Once i had corrected my timing there and it was god.

Let me see how it goes this time. I am hoping for the best.

How is your experience with Palio 1.9 D these days? Mileage , comfort, reliability etc?

Regards
Denny

MY Car is doing very good, in July 2011, i did service her at BU Bhandari Pune,
and there i changed all wheel bearings, and one of the plastic part at gear shifting lever, and after that car is doing awesome, last weekend we had a team bhp meet at Satara 250 Kms from my place and really enjoyed that trip, She gave me milage of 16 Km/l, with most of the Speeds around 120km/hr, 50 % AC as weather was good, car has done 1,06000 KMs now and Engine is smooth, But only problem am facing is of Battery, tomorrow i will check the same, its getting drained quite frequently.

Hi Parimal,

Its nice and also an encouragement to know that your Palio 1.9D is doing well. Did you replace the battery? whats the price?
I had been to Shirwal in Satara District in 2002, my uncle was working with a paper mill there.
It seems like venkatesh has done a decent job. My bill came upto 33K for the entire work. Now vehicle is too smooth and responds like a relatively new car. Drove around 150 KM after that.

I will pen down the details of the work that was carried out and also the driving experience later. Camshaft was the costliest item which was replaced and it was roughly Rs 6700.

waiting for a long distance travel!

Regards

Re: Life With Italian Beauty, 100,000 Completed,Fiat Palio 1.9 D

This is an awesome thread.

My query is...I've found a 2004 Fiat 1.9D with 80000 kms on oddo. It looks as if it's handled brilliantly by the (single) owner. I haven't test driven it as I've pulled a hamstring :( But what I really want to ask you is if I do go in for such a car...what are the monthly, quarterly and yearly expenses that I should worry about? And is 2.2L a good deal for this car? (You know how things have changed in the used market after the frequent ups in the petrol prices.) I've told him 1.9L for 1.9D

FYI, We sold off our very very well maintained Fiat Palio 1.9 D ELX SP PS, the one with ABS, Airbags, S10 alloys, 185/65(?)/R14 Michelin XM1 + tyres with pretty much thread left etc al for Rs 215K, two years back. We had a tough time finding a buyer as everyone was quoting peanuts for our car. Had we put up an ad over here, we would have got a premium as well as a FIATian buyer. Sigh

In the past few weeks, I have personally come across Fiat Palio 1.9 D ELX (not Safety Pack) quoting Rs200k+.

I suggest you to negotiate well and bring the price as low as possible.

All the best.

Thanks KlubClass. About my other query, what were the typical monthly, quarterly or yearly maintenance cost? What mileage were you getting in city and on highways?

Re: Life With Italian Beauty, 100,000 Completed,Fiat Palio 1.9 D

Hi,

If vehcile is good then you can expect 13-14 Km in city with A/c.
Highway 16-18.
Car is good, 1140 Kg Kerb weight and nice torque , its well planted on road.
I touched nealry 140 Km speed but it was stable.
You have to get a Fiat specialist mechanic then it is not a problem to maintain.
Else you may get into trouble as all mechanics dont have expertise with Fiat (european cars).

Checked out well before buying. In which city are u located?

Hey Tornado,

I'm located in Bangalore. Thanks for getting back. I just saw your PM, but I see you've replied here as well. I'll be testing out the car in the coming week. So will update here as and when I'm done with it.

Hi Creative,

Whats the update? Did you buy the Palio?

My 1.9 D is going rock solid after the major work carried out. It performs like new car. No rattles even at 140 KM speed.

Yeah. Took it for a spin. I loved it. It was a longish TD (40 kms). However, when my better half took over, it was a different issue. She didn't like the hard clutch on it. The owner said this is how it is. I really wanted to take her, but better half suggest buying a Beat Diesel. No matter what I did to convince her (Making dinner, bed-tea, rinsing dishes) nothing worked out. And the owner called me 3 days back saying it's sold. :'(

My cousin found a 2003 model Palio D EL 1.9, single owner, done 65000kms in Delhi. Is it worth to buy this car at 1.10k? How about the spares availability and maintenance costs? This car may be used by his wife.

Palio 1.9 is awesome car, but if it has to be drivan by his wife, ask her to do a test drive, as clutch is on heavier side.
Also if the Car has done 65k, check with owner if he has done all belts changed (Alternator/timing).
Also check with your local TATA ASC and other local parts supplier for the avalability of spares, as finding spares is not difficut in Mumbai.
Also check the working of Fuel Pump as Palios before 2004, are known for problems related to Fuel Pumps.

Am having this car, done more than 1,00,000 Kms and loving the awesome engine, power, handling.
