Even something as simple as rear parking sensors were only available in the i20 Asta back then, IIRC.
By fully loaded, I meant ABS and airbags. Add to that the features which top end models have - rear wash wipe, front fog lamps, a decent music set up and steering controls. All these can be an attraction for a used car buyer who has to choose between A/B segment petrol hatchback with AC + PS and a B+ segment diesel with lot more features.

Just sharing my thought process. Hope you get a good deal

Yesterday it rained slush, rather than water - and the car was extremely dirty with just one spell of rain. Had to give it a small wash and wax today morning.

Thank you and I do agree with you - these would be points I would be projecting, the other points I mentioned are just for the discussion between us .

And yes - I hope so too!

I had checked for mine (2012, 75HP, run 95K kms) with a known local used car dealer couple of weeks ago. He quoted Rs 1.4 to 1.6 max. In his words, anything more than this is highly unlikely whatever excellent, goodwill etc. condition the car may be in.
Also he mentioned that further drop in value will be less if indeed the car is well maintained and in good condition. He advised me to keep the car as long as possible for me.

Think the quote you got is in sync with the 2.5 lakh quote I got for my BILs 2014, 75HP 53k run car from a dealer. Hard time to sell even the less run and well maintained FIATs

So no surprise, we decided to hold on to the car.

First of all used car prices are different across India, generally used cars command a higher resale value in South India (worst is Delhi, of course most cars in Delhi are very poorly maintained). Next up is where you sell your car can have a huge effect on the price you get. If you are willing to sell your car at online sites like OLX, Quickr & you are willing to wait a bit, you might get a good value for your car. Of course selling on these sites have their own problems, like meeting tons of people, RC transfer etc.

If it helps, we sold our January 2012 Punto Emotion (not Emotion PK) in September 2016 to a Ford Dealer (from where we bought our Ecosport) for 140k . The car had 103k km on the odometer & had a smoky exhaust. Strangely after a few months my Mom met with the new owner, he had bought the car for 220k from a used car dealer (who I suppose bought it from the Ford dealer) & the odometer reading was 43k. Then only a few months ago I spotted our ex Punto in a small town (around 250km from Guwahati), I couldn't stop myself from having a conversation with the new owner. He had bought the car for 200k from the second owner, I didn't bother to ask about the odometer reading.

So, I would say anything between 150-200k would be a decent price for your Punto. Having said that, don't be surprised if dealers quote a figure between 100-150k.

P.S - What car are you planning to replace the Punto with? If it's an Ecosport you are thinking, please take a long test drive & check if you can live with that ride quality.

Thanks S.MJet, KK for the suggestions and yes - this is what I would have loved to do as well - just that we already are using a borrowed parking slot for the scooter and my Versys 650. The math is not at all favourable to maintain two cars as well! Will try all permutation combinations to retain the Punto for (diesel) commutes, in case the replacement is a petrol car.

Or I might even postpone all such decisions and wait it out till BS6, incase better half doesn't start showing faces.

Thank you chiranjitp.

I have pre-booked the XUV 3OO W8(O) which looks like the perfect replacement (as per our requirements) at-least on paper. Ofcourse, a final decision pending price announcement tomorrow and test drives post that.

Although not in a similar situation as you, for me it was a case of paying for the 2nd car park to accommodate 2 cars of mine and funnily the 2nd car park cost me little over what my car's (WagonR) value would be . I don't think I can get anything more than a lac for this 2006, 250,000 Km run car which is still well maintained.

But in my case I had no choice to dispose the 2nd car because by the time I moved to an apartment, my wife had started to drive this regularly to work since last 4 years.

Even when I bought the Ertiga, and despite the fact that my wife had never driven the WagonR till then, I was somehow sure that I won't sell it for the sentimental reasons and nothing else. Thankfully today, it runs regularly every day and as I type this, it is undergoing a major service with suspension and other replacements that will make it fit for another 1L kms easily with only regular oil changes in between.

Your Punto is well maintained and see if you can retain it forgetting the math. One of the those beautifully made cars in recent time with an ageless design.

Who knows your better half will start using it on regular basis and it continues to serve the purpose?

A pal of mine was quoted a very dismal figure(Rs. 90k) for his Punto diesel 75hp model.
His vehicle was valuated by mahindra while he was checking out a possible exchange with the new marrazo. Same age and run about 1.7 lakh km and well cared and pampered.

Update before Valentine's is over - Punto stays.

Decided to wait it out till BS6 mess clears and fresh choices open up. Will probably pick a petrol next, so the price increase post BS6 isn't a big bother.

Will figure out slowly how to retain the Punto incase an upgrade happens.

Good choice Crazy driver. When you are getting such low ask for a well maintained and running condition car, I dont think there is any point in selling it. Enjoy your Punto as long as you can.

Nope, he was shocked to hear it. He felt better to keep it than let go for a throw away price. At least till 2 lakh km

Fourth set of tyres.

After almost 80k kms with the previous set of Continental MC5 tyres, got a new set for the Punto. Always wanted to try Michelin P3ST during this change, but decided against it due to the VFM offered by Conti. Even though I would really like to hold on to the car for a couple of years more, it also depends on the reliability factor - one that remains to be seen.

Only difference from old to new - 195/60 R15 to 195/65 R15, little bit more sidewall for added ride comfort, in a car that was always known for ride quality. The change has been good enough for wife to notice it, enough said.

Madhus store was extremely crowded and it took more than 2.5 hours for the tyre change. However, its been a LONG time since I did wheel balancing or wheel alignment on the car - hence I had decided long back to get roadforce balancing done during the tyre change.

Currently at 178k kms...

Congrats for the tyre change! Those sidewalls look positively huge though, i hope the don't compromise the handling of the Punto considering you use it at higher speeds. With regard to bumpy ride, I would suggest getting your suspension checked too, as I have noticed cars become increasingly bumpy as the suspension ages. Also, if the suspension needs work, it could cause your tyres to experience more wear as well.

Not at all, just that the ride has become softer. I only regret not going ahead with this change during the previous tyre change itself. Suspension seems fine IMO, the ride is comfortable, silent and plush once the speeds pick up - the bumpiness I was referring to, was only at low speeds and smaller objects that the tyre should ideally absorb.

Currently covered about 1300 kms with the new set of tyres, of which 650 kms has been through TN's fast expressways, and around 400 kms has been through the two-lane highways of Kerala.

Mystery of check engine light!

While driving down from Bangalore to Trivandrum, the check engine light came on midway at Madurai. Being an election day in TN (No, I didn't skip voting - did that in my hometown. ) there were no shops or service centers open, and also I couldn't find anything wrong with the measurables or performance of the car - so I called up my trusted FNG and decided to drive down the rest of the distance into Trivandrum.

Car covered the remaining 300kms in about 6 hours with no performance issues, and the check engine light also disappeared after being parked overnight. Being Easter weekend, FCA workshop was closed for an extended weekend, and I got it checked afterward - they could find only two errors (1. Glow plugs which were giving out separate warnings and I had already decided to replace all four during next service and 2. EGR warning. EGR was last cleaned closer to the 120k service, but the car has been used for a lot of city driving since then - and that could be the reason for the error. However, this wasn't showing as active anymore and the SA also advised to get it cleaned during the upcoming service).

Did another 400kms of two-lane highway run afterward, and the warning lamp has not made an appearance since.

FCA showroom and service center in Trivandrum. Nice facility, hopefully, will be able to sell more variety of cars than just Compass and FIATs soon.
