Here’re some updates in no particular order.

So that’s about it for this update. There are no issues with the car so far. I'll be changing the gearbox oil shortly. Although VW says it is sealed for life and doesn't warrant a replacement, changing the oil every 5 years/1L km helps in smoothening the shifts and removing the mucky oil which containes remnants from the grinding of gears inside the box.

A trip to Mangalore is on the cards this month and another one to Kolli hills sometime later. The Kolli hills ghat road has 70 hairpin bends - the highest in the country apparently + featured in dangerousroads.org (link) as well. :)

What‘s up guys!

The timing belt was changed at an FNG here owned and operated by Jai Prakash. In addition to the timing belt system replacement, the V belt along with tensioner and idler pulley that drives the alternator and AC compressor was also changed.

I see that the crank was not locked, only the cam was with a 6mm hex key.

I have seen so many VW TDI timing belt jobs go wrong just because you don't use the relatively cheap cam and crank locks.

BTW this tool set costs approx 3k in the local tool store.

This is the right way to do the Timing belt :

Sourced the can from Amazon and cost me Rs. 316 inc. of shipping. Contrary to what is printed on the bottle, this one isn’t imported from Germany - it is made in India by Ansysco Anand.

If I remember correctly, it's mentioned as made in Germany and packed in India by Ansysco Anand. I think they import it in large quantities and later packed in 200 ml bottles by Anand. Anand group is the official importer for all Liqui moly products in India.

Ganesh, you're such an inspiration! The first order of business whenever I get a bigger place is gonna consist of installing a jacked up half ramp or a decent car lift! And there by all the services will be done by me. Its such a satisfying job to do on your own car, even better than detailing. The Polo seems to be holding up pretty well and I'm quite surprised you haven't upgraded yet. Looks like we both really love our cars, and there isn't a replacement befitting them in the current scenario! Maintaining the cars over all these years definitely pays off as you'll see on my thread as well. These little refreshers boost the car's life and our interest in the car too.

If you are not happy with VW service, just order the parts and DIY. :D
You should take your car to VW service centers and show them HID (How It's Done) :thumbs up

@Gannu_1, you are such an inspiration for me with your attention to detail in maintaining the GT and your meticulousness in documenting the same. GT after the 3M wash seems as good as new and should be ready for many more miles to come. kudos!!!

@Gannu Need your help. I’m trying to source an auto headlight switch from AliExpress. The seller asked me for the part number of my current switch. I’m not sure, tried looking up. I have an early 2014 GT TSI. Will it be the same as your TDI?

Will this work with the TSI?

Gannu bhai, am a great fan of your Polo's Ownership thread. As detailed as one can get. Shows how much attention you give to your ride.

Did you had to source the parts for timing belt replacement individually? The timing belt and the tensioners are usually available as a kit with a single part number 03L198119F. Also, the part number of the water pump is 03L121011P and not 03L121031B :)

140,000 km up!

Thanks! I am hoping the FNG tech Jaiprakash did a proper job without skimping on the tools or efforts. Only time will tell.

Yeah, the can says ‘Filled and packed by ANSYSCO ANAND LLP’.

Hi Shankar, I am not sure about that. I asked my friend to source these parts and he sent them over.

Thanks for the input. I’ll keep this in mind.

Corrected the part number in the OP. :)

Sent my TDI for 75k service with TVS Sundaram. SA mentioned they will be replacing the coolant oil due to presence of rust along with the tank (overall 3k). Discolouration and difficulty to sight the level was told as reason for replacement of tank. Other replacement is AC V-Belt & tensioners (7k). Have told them to leave both of these as it is & will get those addressed in next service. I didn't face any noise or problem with AC working, hence decided to double check with FNG. Surely will get in touch with Jaiprakash. Thanks for this lovely thread.

Hi @Gannu_1,
I've been reading your DIY threads and Polo GT related things all day today. I have to commend your dedication and guts to go ahead with even complex DIYs!
I just happened to be reading your thread from the first page today and had a look at your timeline of events. Many congratulations on completing 5 years with your GT!
And once again, thank you for your contribution!

Hi Gannu.
We both share the same cars, mine is some 40k less driven than yours.
I have been looking at all the wear and tear parts that need replacement in the near future, and the one question that I could not seek a solution on was brake lines. What are your thoughts on changing them- should it be a age rule or post a certain mileage?

Mine is a hundred k less driven than Gannu's.

It is good to know, from both of you, what a workhorse this car can be.

This car can corrupt you. The seamless joy that the ownership provides with a 1.6 motor is what words fail to describe.
I will quote what Gannu had once said earlier. If VW decides to launch a 2L motor in the same- they can have my money!

Hey Gannu. Congratulations on your new milestone.

Been following your thread from a long time now. 5 Star thread with loads of information for all the Volkswagen Polo owners.

I've got two queries,

1) Where do you source you spare parts from?
2) Recently ordered the auto headlight unit from Aliexpress. Read that the fog lights don't turn on automatically. Any tweaks for the same?
