Nice choice on the car Jaggu and specially the model a Manual with that beast of a I-Vtec engine will surely put some sedan cars to shame but surely will drink up most petrol pumps. I really like the CR-V only reason why its a bit on the expensive side is because its not built here like the Accord. The U.K police use CRVs.

40,000 kms, 2 years 11 months !

Car has covered 40,000 kms and just took it back from Service. So how did the story go so far.

Till date it hasnt broken down and gotten stranded in middle (Tyre burst to be excluded). No part has fallen off, but yes rattle it does (not alarming), again thanks to the plastic parts. Interiors have held up well, yes every few months 3 M treatment and regular vacuum and leather polish has helped.

Suspension has small glitches when compared to 0 km reading, but nothing alarming, and the dealer always blames this to the external plastic trim and guard up front. Am not convinced though.

Overall smooth as silk with all things working as it should, favorite brew IOC extra premium (Fuel lid specifies premium fuel).

FE: 7-9 kmpl City, 9-11 kmpl Highway

Clutch has become lil hard, actually harder than the Swift D and the play a lil more than convenient. Gears are ok and slot into position without any fuss.

Tranny has this bad habit of tightening up when the steering is at full lock thanks to AWD.

Brakes, this is one thing which can be rated ***** The whole set up works perfect and still running on OE pads, service adviser is amazed that it has lasted so well, usually they wear off by 20 k kms was his remark, anyways visual inspection shows another 10 k life so didnt bother to replace.

Parts replaced till date

Driver side RVM: In between the driver side mirror assembly needed to be changed with a cyclist hitting it and the plastic motor assembly failing as a result. Rs 8000 for just the internal motor assembly.

Battery: conked off last week, one cell was dead, maybe this can be attributed to the additional load the fog lights and the driver enjoying the music while bro is at work. New battery costed some Rs 6000, exchange of ol one fetched 700 bucks.

One tyre: Bridgestone got a cut on the sidewall while on a highway trip to Tirupathi. Rs 8000 replacement for OE Bridgestone (imported). Otherwsie tyres do have some more life, though strictly going by coin test i feel its time to replace atleast 2 now.

40,000 Service cost

Labour
Paid check: Rs 1550
Injector clean: Rs 400
Throttle body clean: Rs 300

Parts
Engine oil: 4.5 L: Rs 705.71 (Bro doesnt believe in Synth an all, so regular dealer brew)
Oil Filter: Rs 151.54
Fuel Strainer Crv (Full Set): Rs 1240. 31
Element comp Air: Rs 1,421.55
Washer drain: Rs 18.11

Other
Body polish: Rs 900
Interiror cleaning: Rs 900

Total with tax, cess etc: Rs 8,088

Overall very happy with the car, except it does eat some money every 5k kms service (Rs 2500 average for service alone, polish wolish additional). 40,000 is major service and next major one at 80,000 kms.

Today the service guy said they recommend ol model to new Crv for rougher use. He has a customer who came in for new one Crv and might be willing to pay 12 lakhs for our car. Ill pass the info to bro, who knows he might have some ideas runnin in his head

Excellent review; great to hear she is treating you well. Not one unscheduled malfunction in 40,000 kms says a lot.

Remember, its the dealer who wants you to service at every 5,000 kms. Check your manual...I am dead sure Honda recommends one every 10,000 kms only.

Honda manual is lil vague here, has oil change every 5000kms for extreme and dusty conditions, which is what india falls under. Rest of the service they have a different table with normal and extreme classification, with some work at 5 n some at 10k intervals.

Again this schedule excludes Newzealand, Australia and Europe.

I feel the duration has more to do with honda oils (non synthetic) than anything else. Sadly dealers add more labour charges to oil change and milk owners.

Nice to see the writeup Jaggu!

Got to take in our CRV for service (time bound) in the next couple of days, nearing the 19k odo reading.

Overall its a a nice ride to own barring the price and FE. Personal still feel dad should have bought the Forrester

Redlined her the other day for the heck of it on a wide open stretch, pretty insane acceleration for its size and the braking helps too. I stick to 100-120 on the highways for safety and FE reasons.

Sometime during the last 2 days our rear right hand tailamp has been damaged. One cannot even make out unless your specifically looking for it. Seems like a stone or motorbike handle has come in contact and broken a small patch. Rest of the car is fine. This is bound to cost a fortune

fuel strainer seems to be the part where the fuel pump, float n I guess the filter resides. So its basically for fuel filter replacement, they have replaced the plastic strainer and filter, rest refitted.

Imported OE Honda part by denso.

Nice report Jaggu. Would be good to see this thread in Long term ownership section. May be the mods can split this thread when Jaggu posted 40K report and move it to the appropriate section.

Well, Seems the maintenance costs are not the mountain side with the CR-V. The oil filter costs only Rs.151 only compared to Indian Pajero which is Rs.1214 . I am planning to buy a used CR-V in few months . 2003 models are selling below 9 lacs.

Saw an Ad in today's Hindu classifieds:

2004 CRV black colour - done 39k Kms. Asking for 8.5 lacs when I called him up.

I believe the deal could be sealed at around 8 lacs !!

According to Jaggu!

When you buy an expensive automobile be prepared for expensive service.

Update 60,000 kms

Tires were replaced at 50,000 km mark with Michellin Latitudes each costing 8,500 +. Very good tires and the ride has tremendously improved compared to the previous Bridgestone's from Japan that came with the car. Am not sure about the handling though since i feel that she has lost her crispness.

This can be due to a) the age of the car and suspension has softened b) am more used to swift and everything else is like a boat

Rattles as usual comes up after 1000-2000 kms of service but nothing very alarming, usual culprits like doors and some plastics.

So it came back from 60,000 km service. Our driver has become an owner in front of the Honda dealer and he does give them a big pain when the car is given. But this time my bro was lil surprised with the "bill". I wasnt though, i strongly believe in the opening line of the post. Like it or not.

I will let the bill do the talking:
Labor
  1. 60,000 km service - 1,640 wow
  2. Injector cleaning - 550 (not included in reg service, but they do it religiously every time)
  3. Diff oil replacement - 330 (Hello its part of service!)
  4. Brake pad replacement - 264 (There was shudder at high speed breaking)
  5. Disc replacement - 528 (Am not sure if it was needed, facing should have solved the issue)
  6. Door noise - 75
  7. FT RH mirror clutch replaced - 264 (For opening door pad lol)
  8. Body polishing - 900
  9. Upholstery cleaning - 900

Parts
  1. Engine oil - 976
  2. Manual transmission fluid - 312
  3. Brake fluid - 630
  4. Oil filter - 309
  5. Diff oil - 884
  6. Air filter element - 1,458
  7. Wiper fluid - 100
  8. Washer drain - 19
  9. Brake pad front - 6,267
  10. Disc front brakes - 11,193
  11. ORVM motor - 6,165 (Notorious for snapping off, even if someone tries force shutting manually) 4th one we have replaced

Total + Vat, Serv tax (8 grand!) = Rs. 32,342.30/-

Those are steep labor prices that Honda has charged mate! I understand the fact that these are Top end Luxury cars/ SUV's but companies like Honda have to make it more pocket friendly as well.

Companies realize that the owners of these high end cars would not risk having their car serviced in a non-authorized service station so they openly rip-off the poor owners.

The charge for door noise was the least expected of the lot!

The CRV - being a CBU - surely doesn't match up to the low cost of ownership that we normally associate with Hondas. That said:

Quote:
Brake pad front - 6,267
Disc front brakes - 11,193
ORVM motor - 6,165 (Notorious for snapping off, even if someone tries force shutting manually) 4th one we have replaced
These three components added up to almost 75% of the total amount. I can understand the brake pads needing a change, but why the front discs? If they were damaged, wouldn't skimming have helped?
