Docked at the service station

My little monster was almost due for the next service. Two days back i started my car in the morning and planned to go out. Suddenly i start to hear a strange sound from the engine bay, when i turn the steering. But, as i was in a hurry, just drove along. Yesterday , heard the same sound and it happen to be that, the power steering fluid box is almost empty. I was shocked. And left the car at hyundai. Got to wait for 2 hrs before knowing whats wrong with it. Seems , its going to cost a lot as the service guys said we might need to change the entire assembly. keeping my fingers crossed.

Got a call from the service centre. The O-Ring had to be replaced and it will cost around Rs.3000.

This is indeed surprising! How did the steering feel while you were trying to turn? If the power-steering fluid ran out, wont the steering feel pretty heavy? And was there a leak or something? What was the root cause for the O-ring to give way?

i didnt feel that much of a difference in steering, the only indication was the sound that came from the bonnet. will be going to pick up my car today and will get the full details. Changed brake pads too.

Back from the service. Here are the details
Getz Prime 1.5 CRDi - Bright Silver EDIT: 74,000 kms update-getz.jpg

I have been enjoying this vehicle a lot. Its not only power monster for my family, its also a mini powerful UV . We own a farm land and we carry all the stuff in this vehicle like bag of cow dung , tiny saplings, fertilizers etc etc. I am not pushing her hard all the time. Keeping it in 80kmph most times and if heavy in traffic in highways , floor the pedal to unleash the best within.

did you ask them for the fuel injector cleaner and the engine oil supplement? What injector cleaner and oil supplement do they use? IIRC, this should be the 50k service right?

Also, why Shell Helix? I felt Delvac MX to be better in terms of NVH - could be my perception, but felt a marked difference between the stock Servo and MX.

is it a common problem for Getz? I didnt see Kpzen face it, but two owners facing it (quite a percentage among the few owners here) is indeed a bit scary. Does the steering become unmovable if this happens?

My car has now completed 1 yr and 15k kms only. During service a leak was detected in the intercooler hose, and a replacement would cost Rs 7300/- as per service centre. I'm trying for a warranty replacement for that. Hyundai is trying to blame it on an accident I had in April.

Mine is fine so far but the other Getz Crdi's steering assembly was changed under warranty. Power steering oil leakage was the problem.

Claiming warranty in this case will be tough.

Finally got the warranty, as updated in my facebook as well. :-).

Is the steering sound only at full lock? I also have a hissing sort of sound at full lock, which I feel is normal for a HPS system.

Krish!
I don't think your car has any symptoms of steering assembly failure.
Enjoy the torque & drive safe.

My friends 1.3 Petrol Getz's steering is now very hard at slow speeds and he feels it behaves like one with a power steering. Hyundai SAs seem to have told him that its normal as the vehicle gets old, but his Getz is only 1 yr 3 months old and run 16k .

Any pointers on what to look out for?
