Yes, I will not be able to replicate this problem in the service centre. Thanks for the inputs. What you say sounds very logical.

Any other thoughts guys?

So there was a problem with 'hot start'.

I am wondering whether I should take it to the workshop and get it checked. Meanwhile, any ideas from anyone?
Some other 1.6 owner reported a similar issue 2 years ago---after ripping the car for a long time on the highway, he stopped for a few minutes, and the car would not start for sometime. I believe the prevention is to idle the car for a couple of minutes before switching off.
However, I've not had this issue so far.

After showing this in the service station, they couldn't identify the problem, but this has not recurred mercifully.
However, I am at 13K KM now and a new problem has occurred. There is a metallic rattling noise (under the bonnet,on the driver's side). I took it to the service station and they said that the channel to the airfilter had come off and fixed it. I brought the car back but however, the noise persists. The problem with this is that it is intermittent and occurs during idling.
I plan to take it back to the service shop but any thoughts from you guys?

From 9th July 2008, you are logging in today -almost a gap of 6 months.
Anyway you are back in action and hope to contribute more.

REgarding the noise - wait, you may get some better ideas from other members but still feel you should take someone from the service people and ask him to drive the car alongwith you and then fix the problem in a porfessional way.?

Agreed, plan to do that. The problem is that this sound is intermittent. The last time I took it to the service workshop( a week back) this noise did not occur. Now I notice this again. Just wanted to know whether someone else knows/has seen a similar problem..

This tricky problem continues to baffle me. There have been 3 visits to the workshop so far - I am unable to simulate this noise in the workshop. To summarise:
  • This noise is intermittent. It does not happen every day. It does not happen in a workshop
  • When it does occur, it happens in a cold start when I start the car first thing in the morning - and that, too, not every day
  • This is jarring metallic noise - like someone hitting a rotating fan with a key
  • The noise stays for a few secs and dies out by itself
I need a sherlock holmes!

Try with another service centre or request them to send a good mechanic to your home in one morning so that he can try start (cold start?) the car and listen that extra sound. Then it may easy for him to find out the problem?

The problem finally rectified - it was a defective fan motor making the occasional noise. Eventually, the AC started malfunctioning and there was coolant leakage - that is how they found it out.
Everything under warranty - so didn't need to shell out a single paisa

@ shridharps - Good for you for getting the noise problem solved finally. Even I am unable to recreate the noise in the workshop which I experience when I release the brakes (not the hand brake) the first time after starting the car. I had pointed it out to SA during the two service visits but was unable to recreate the noise. The SA was of the opinion that this happens with most of the brakes when they are released first time but get smoothened out during the day driving. Experts can opinate.

Good, so all's well that ends well! Even my fan motor was replaced last year under warranty. I was told that this is more common in diesel Fiestas.
So how many miles did you crunch by now?

Ghodlur, I have seen this happen when the vehicle has not been used for a long time and when you start the vehicle - but no, this should not happen on a regular basis, to my knowledge.

Great, 18K kms in 20 months. Thats good running. Have you calcuated whats the total cost spent on your vehicle till date, I am sure Fiesta would be VFM, maybe others can also benefit from your experience. Maybe you can categorize your spent on maintenance parts, accesories etc. Hope to see the figures soon.
