Chevrolet Optra LS 1.6 60000KM Service Estimate is 30K. Paid around 18K.

Hi Folks

Need some expert advice here. i bought my optra 1.6 LS (2004 Make) last year with 40000km run. The last service at 50,000KM just costed me 5K. Now when i went to service center for 60000KM service, the estimate is 30K in which they are saying all the filters, belts need to be replaced.

is this normal to have a such a big bill or am I getting robbed?

Any previous experience with Optra with 60000Km Service could help?

Thanks
Viswanathan

For most cars 60k service is a major service which generally costs more than the average service (like your 50k service for instance). Find out what all they intend to replace and chek this with your user manual.

I checked with them before leaving the service centre. The list to be replaced is exactly the same as what the service book recommends. Just the amount is too big to digest

Hi Viswanathan,

30K is around 100% more estimate if otherwise your car is behaving normally. It costed somewhere around 18K, works done were

- All filters to be changed
- All oils to be changed
- Spark plugs to be changed
- Brake pads to checked and changed
- V-belt & timing-belt to changed
- Bearings related to v-belt and timing belt to be checked and changed
- Fuel Injectors cleaning
- Wheel Alignment
- Engine flushing

Though i had some different issues all together related to their poor parts which can be read over here..

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ors-delhi.html

By any means do not skip the tension and v-belt changing schedule as it is very important and crucial at 60K.

Do update the thread with your service experiences.

The list is
drive belt(alternator, Power Steeing, AC Compressor)
Fuel Filter
Air Cleaner Element
Spark Plugs
Timing Belt
Tensioner + Tensioner Belt (water pump if necessary)
Interior Air Filter
+ Standard Service & Labour (plus extra labour for the above).

The high cost items seems to the belts (timing, tensioner)

Thanks Ashish. After seeing your thread, i can immediately say there are price increase in some of the parts, like Tensioner - 2000(1344 Rs), Tensioner Timing Belt - 4000 (3003 Rs). Now i see the parts to be replaced matches with your list only the price is double. i will double check with them on the price (but i thing there is hardly any chance to reduce from an authorized center), i could probably negotiate on the Labour.

Do you see any items that need not be replaced in your list?

Secondly, he spoke about the rear left and front right suspensions have minor leaks and said replacement would cost me around 6k extra. i have not felt any issues with the suspension even fully loaded, he also recommended that it could be postponed. did you had any similar issues?

Thanks
Viswanathan

Nop, each and every item was replaced. Somehow i was with them at the time of replacement and followed up very closely about the part changed. however do check out the tensioner noise which usually comes up due to part fault. For most i would suggest to take a day's leave and let the work done in front of you only, its your money and you should be satisfied at most.

GM shockers are very much competent so do not worry about the same. Mine was getting a bit stiffed so got it leaked intentionaly and it worked without any flaw till 75K.

A 2004 optra.

Try for a pvt service center, will cost much less than authorized one.

30 k is quite a lot. Expensive spare parts compared to other vehicles? Anyone with similar estimates of 60 k service for honda / ford / maruti etc?

Which service center was this? Any new one or Sundaram Motors?

it is sundaram motors. i think they used the tactic to quote exponentially higher and i agree for a significantly lower amount without objection.

Rudra, do you give yours to sundaram? where do you do your optra service?

I think that they give the estimate with the worst case scenarios of havingto chnage all the items being checked , but while doing the actual service they may not have changed all item.

Another thing that happens if you ask for something like a clutch replacement , the service advisor would change everything associated with the clutch to clear the issue and to meet his target. I called a Hyundai A.S.S in chennai yesterday to check for the comprehensive price for changing the clutch he gave me a quote of Rs 26k for the CRDi verna , i know for a fact that the spare part cost are below 10,000 bucks without taxes.

I dig further and notices that he has estimated for changing the flywheel the , master and slave cylinder and even some of the hydraulic piping for the clutch. For a person who doesnt understand the internal the guys would have pressed for the entire change . So you have to check the estimate very carefully while giving for service . My 2006 Verna CRdi also completed 60K and the service cost me Rs 5K. And i was with the vehicle the entire time.
