I guess we gotta swap our air filters and see if the K&N gets as clogged as the Green Cotton for your driving condition, and if the Green Cotton is as not-so-clogged as the K&N in my driving conditions. What say?!! :)

I always wanted to try out the K&N but was never able to source one. Sometimes dealers didn't have it in stock, sometimes the dealers were not sure if its the right filter for Getz D.

Normal driving : NO
High revving driving : YES

It definitely is sounding louder. The Diesel clatter at idle is not as audible with the stock filter. But I can live that.

The mean roar of the engine at ~3000 RPM is addictive!!!!

If you are game, am ready for a swap for, say, a month!

After two days of fixing noises, the car is back to its absolutely silent self. The replaced rear-left shock absorber was found faulty and a new replacement was fixed in its place. All is well that ends well - but for a twist in the tale for my poor rocket - my rear-ending episode is coming back to bite my rear literally. From the looks of it, I thought the damage was only on the bumper, which did not look much at all. I was surprised, because the Innova's bull bar had crashed and ruined the bonnet quite a bit, but the rocket was barely bruised. Now it looks like all the impact was absorbed by the chassis :Frustrati

My SA had the entire rear (bumper, panels, etc) stripped to ensure nothing rattles / makes any kind of a noise. That's when he notices that the rear-ending has crumbled the metal near the spare wheel's well, as well as the chassis frame. Nothing major, he says, and I can drive around with it. But advised me claim insurance and tinker them off. I am planning to take it to Raghav for a look tomorrow, lets see how that goes.

Sure, will get pics of the damage, as well as the tinkering when I get to it - should be mid-May though.

Here are the pics of the damage. The car is now with Raghav (IgNite), and will be with him till tomorrow noon for the job.

These three are the inside-back-left (the car was rear-ended towards the rear-left (driver side).

From the outside - not much is seen here, or on the bumpers.

I can safely say that Hyundai has built a sturdy body - the car was rear-ended by an Innova hurling at me at 80 KMPH (or more - I overtook him a few minutes before the accident at ~100) - though he braked, he braked late (it was a curvy stretch, he didn't see my sudden-bovine-stop until he was about 30 feet away). The speed at impact in my judgement would still have been ~50 KMPH.

Alright, the rocket is back is form. Will post photos later, thanks to the RAIN IN CHENNAI!!! :D

Have to admit that Hyundai has done a good job with the build quality. Definitely far ahead of what Maruti provides. Impacts at suich high speeds causes a lot more damage on a Maruti product.

Good job Hyundai!!!

Second ton, reach in 339 days from birthday averaging 59 KM per day. Note that I was not in India for two and a half months of these 339 days - bringing my average to 2353 KM per month of turbocharged bliss :)

Last free service scheduled tomorrow. I fixed the noisy music system (thanks to me fiddling with the setup) myself - removed the center console et all - and managed to mess up the air flow direction controls again. Have to fix it with the service, and see how they remove the center console and put it back in without messing that up!

HAPPY DRIVING. Just jealous of how much you get to drive. On the other hand I'm itching for another long drive.

Surprising, how little things make you go ga-ga :)

When my car chose me, I knew that there was only one variant - GVS - in CRDi, which did not come with body coloured door handles and external rear-view mirrors. Being a if-its-a-car-its-gotta-be-black person, I didn't even think about it then. After a few months, I happened to see a black Getz GLX somewhere - and thought "the body coloured handles and mirrors look fine. maybe...", and left it at that.

Today, when I took her in for the 20,000 KM third free service, I gave a list of stuff:

Don't change the oil, but put a new oil filter in the dashboard
Change the air filter (Had swapped K&N for the stock paper filter before bringing her in)
Change the fuel filter
The fogs are not working
I messed with the air flow direction controls
I lost one of the clips that holds the inner A-Pillar panels
Check the wheel bearings
Check the drive shaft bush

And after a few more words, I was about to get back - when the bulb lit in my head - I went back in. Nirmal, my Service Advisor, saw the look in my face and should have thought "Oh Sweet Lord..!"

I want the door handles and the rear view mirrors painted body colour.
Sir, it will take another day...
No way! I want it, and I want it done by evening...

Yeah, I was the demanding pain in the butt for him today. He agreed to give it his best shot - Mondays are supposed to be not-so-busy days and that's why he told me to come today when I called him Friday. But unfortunately, the turn-in for service was higher than usual it seems.

I called Nirmal up by 6 PM. Seems the painting has been done, but the car was not washed yet. I insisted I wanted it today, and said I can wait up. Reached the Service Center by 7 PM, and got her back by about 8:30 PM.

Surprising, how little things make you go ga-ga. I went home, parked her in my garage and had a look at the mirror and door handles. It was pretty dark, and my garage does not have a light. So got ready for work, and reach office. After parking her in the basement parking, I walked around her. Stood in each of the corners to have a side-view. Boy, does she look good!

I clicked a few pics with my E72, but they came out bad - thanks to the camera, the lighting, and I couldn't get a good shot thanks to the other vehicles around. Will try to get better ones with the 500D later, but for now...

Here is the bill (incl taxes):
Relay Assy - Fog lamp: 451.65
Clip - A-Pillar panel: 64.63
Fuel Filter Cartridge: 1434.89
Air Filter: 330.48
Engine Oil Filter: 375.77

Totals to 2657.43, plus 1103.00 for the painting. I will be changing the engine oil tomorrow at IgNite - keeping it to Mobile 1 Delvac MX as I still could not find a good synthetic oil that is CH-4 or higher rated.

In this 11 months of owning her, she has giving me nothing but absolute joy. And the adrenaline rush when you slam her down - priceless. For 5.61 Lakhs on-road, she has been nothing but a steal. Even if I were to upgrade to a new car, I don't think I can ever let her go... And for those who chose her over another car in the same segment, or for those who missed owning her while she was still there - You'd probably not know what you lost on. But then, I gotta thank you because maybe if this had car been a hit like the i20, I may not have been able to buy it for the OTR cost of, say, a Ritz or a Swift VDI.

Thanks buddy! Its the pure driving pleasure - I drive back home from office the longer way or take her on the highway for the spin, just to let her do what she is good at - smoke 'em all! :thumbs up

Its been a while since I headed to Bangalore, maybe sometime in June - Lets have a Getz meet up then, what say?!

(Some of us have been talking about this for a long long time, hopefully something happens...)

Looking good their the rocket :D Seems like the kun guys have done a good job with the paint job.
Heading there in the morning to have my brakes checked. My ABS verna is locking up randomly on heavy braking at times and I'm unable to pinpoint specific instances. Nirmal said he will run a scan on it in the morning and check to see if theres any issue with the sensor or motor. Fingers crossed.

I was wondering how body coloured door handles and mirrors would look on the Dark Grey and Black. I find the black ones given as stock pretty good looking. Maybe my mind might change as I pile on the kms.

Give a call whenever you come to bangy and we can have a Getz Meet-up

@phoenix your views on "Mobile 1 Delvac MX" compared to the company provided oil?? Any change in the engine sound/performance. Whats the cost for a full oil change?? and warranty?

Yup, pretty good a paint job - I like it. Still looking at the car from side angles whenever I park her :)

How did your brake test go? Nirmal was also telling me you are about to bring her in.

Look up a Getz GLX of the colour of your choice, you would know how the body coloured mirror and handles would look. I too thought the black was looking good, until I got a few scratches in the mirror and the door handle plastic's colouring started to get white (maybe something they used to wax the car?)

The stock oil used (atleast by my dealer) is the HYUNDAI SERVO CRDi PREMIUM ENGINE OIL, which is API CH-4. Quoting from the word doc that their site has:
Quote:

APPLICATION

Hyundai Servo CRDi Premium Engine oil is recommended for new generation Hyundai Diesel vehicles. It is tailored to the lubrication requirements of engines complying to Euro III. Recommended for use with Diesel fuel, sulphur content upto 0.5% by wt.
The Sulphur in Diesel is a lubricating element. With Euro IV, Sulphur content has been reduced further (not sure how much though). The Mobile 1 Delvac MX exceeds API CI-4 rating. The oil is also meant for Diesel engines running on low sulphur fuel.

Technicalities apart, I can give you absolutely no concrete answer on if it is better than the stock oil or not - its my perception that the engine is running smooth and revving happily :) A oil change costs about 1300 bucks at MRP, and I change it every 5000 KM on the clock.

It is infact a mixture of factors that is making my driving experience - Shell Diesel, K&N Filter, and Mobile 1 Delvac MX. I am no longer using Shell, thanks to the ~10 bucks difference per liter, and I felt a bit of a turbo lag that was seemingly nonexistent until then. Yesterday, when I put in the stock paper filter to take the car for service, I felt the turbo lag real bad. Maybe if I went in for the Servo oil, I would have known the difference even more...

How did your brake test go? Nirmal was also telling me you are about to bring her in.

Electricals seem fine from the scan. Left brake pad has worn out drastically since my service which was 2000km ago. Car was pulling to the left a bit and the steering had a lot of play and vibration during braking.
They have skimmed the discs which has stopped vibration. He has also added an extra washer which has given the steering a better feel.
Hes given me another 2 to 3k km for changing the brake pads. Asked me to drive for another 1000 odd km just to make sure that there are no other issues. So will have to go make an unscheduled brake pad replacement visit sometime soon.
