Well, based on description written in the test drive section at the hone page.

3 vs C & 5 vs E goes neck & neck.

with Merce wins for chauffeur driven comfort & Beemer wins for driving enthusiasm.

But if you go for comparison of S vs 7, IMO all the TEAM BHP gurus are mad about S.

Few lines form that.

"With each successive generation, the Mercedes S-Class raises the benchmark for extreme luxury sedans. This 9th generation S-Class has been internationally acclaimed as the best sedan in the world. If you can afford it, read no further - just go ahead and buy it."

"This is automotive engineering at its absolute best. "

add the magic of having a STAR on the bonnet, IMO S is the way to go.

I have heard that the Merc S and the BMW 7 are cars that have a lot of problems. It would be better if you get some first hand feedback from actual owners as you dont want the car to be sitting in the showroom for half the year.
Just a word of caution. Also drive all the prospective cars on your regular route to see how comfortable you will be in the dirty Indian traffic.
I would recommend giving the reins of the 7/S to your chauffeur as i don't see these cars for leisure self cruising on the narrow Indian city roads.
If you want to get a car for self driving go for the BMW 5 series or E.
They are big enough to carry you guys in style and comfort and will also give you less tension in case of problems like accident, faults, etc.
If you want to spend 80-90 lakhs, why not get a BMW 5 and a BMW 3 series or even a Porsche Boxter......
that ways even the younger cousins can drive around in style.

The engine option to pick would be easier if we can give an approx on your monthly running.
BMW service inclusive pack has made my ownership experience hassel free. I strongly recommend taking that pack even though it might seem steep now.
Although I love the S, I don't trust mercedes electronics due to bitter past ownership experience. If you do decide to go for the S, do wait for the LED facelift one which looks much more slick!

Well if you are not in a hurry then wait for the new facelifted S which is due towards the later part of 09 or early 10.
If you are after a diesel then IMO S 320cdi is going to be your best bet. You might find the suspension on 7 series a bit on the harder side.

Is it already available for the 7? Can you find out how much for 5 years on the 730 & the 750?

Absolutely. The facelift is just around the corner, might as well wait for it.

All cars are launched with the service pack by default. Even the lowest selling x3 came with it optional.
Will reconfirm availabilty and price once I'm back from my current trip.

The 7 cannot match the S class for comfort at all. If you're looking for comfort go with the S Class. Its not called the best car in the world for no reason. And its great to drive too. Though with the beemer will be more exclusive (atleast for a year).

BUT

If i were you, I'd wait for the 2009 Jag XJ. Its due this July. Will definately be a nice twist from the 'regular', if you may call it, S class' and 7's.
Or the Audi A8 later this year but the JAG will definately be something to wait for.

The S class is for comfort & luxury. Understood. But then the 7er won't leave you bruised and battered either! Sit in a 7 & you won't complain.

The 7er is a driver's car. Ultimate driving machine. Understood. But then the S class is not a walk over as well.

Audi A8: Confused machine in a demanding segment. I do not know what is it positioned as & how it is perceived in the market. What I have is the sales figures from SIAM. Not impressive as I would expect.

If I were you, test drive both 7er & S class. Pick up the one I love the most. We, here at TBHP will offer you opinions but then perspectives differ. I TD'ed the 7er and I loved it. As well, BMW stands out there with a complete portfolio as I stated earlier.

- 7er comes with loads of toys inside. Helps impress your guests.
- 7er comes with upto 5yr/100 maintenance pack. I am relaxed knowing the cost of my ownership of 7er. Merc/Audi: They only go as far as covering the 3rd year (possibly 4th). Implying that these 2 are themselves not clear what would coming in terms of expenses.
- 7er comes with a secure option. That means if you have the package applicable then the depreciation portion for an accident repair is covered by BMW. Important: This is no small a cover. Consider this - A8, S & 7er all come with their single headlamp priced between 60,000 to 80,000 INR. These are classified as plastic & hence carry 50% depreciation. So, one brush with APSRTC & you loose close to 30,000 bucks.

One more thing. BMW beat Merc in sales figure for the 1st Quarter 2009. Merc is gunning to regain its position & therefore possibility of a heavy discount. With 7er, this is a new car. No discounts known so far. However, if I understand you correctly, if money was the issue then we wouldn't be discussing S class/7er/A8 over here.

All the best for your decision. All the best foryour purchase.

Am sitting in a north east province of China and the new & is already available. BMW have moved fast. Jags and LR's are popular. Tata ought to push harder. This is boom town out here!

have you considered importing a lexus? yes its not locally available yet but service wont be a problem as toyota will take care of it. But from the thread im guessing you already booked the 7 and you are basically asking whether it is worth the 80sh odd lacs.
The answer is Yes and No.
Yes because it's a killer package
No because the tax system totally screw's the VFM factor. Well you cant change the tax system atleast for now.
So i would say definitely worth it.

dear friend,I've showed your reply to my father and cousins. He has changed his mind on BMW 7 series. And our previous cars are 4 endeavours, 3 scorpios,4 safaris and 4 innovas. When ever we buy a car,we book the car on June 18th,it's a lucky day for us and our company.Seeing your scary reply,we reduced our excitement to get a premium car and started thinking about that carefully. And our previous cars had met with serious damages previously and it did not cost much for us.

At present,my father is really scared to get a bmw 7 series. And also we checked the mercedes S class as said, even that was comfortable for all of us.But only one of my cousins said that the drive wasn't so good as the bmw 7.

And from 2 days I was spending a lot of time on this site.4X4 topic is pretty interesting and I don't know that people are so crazy about cars and driving. And I just started to learn driving :(.I am learnin drivin with alto and i am not comfortable with.

Can anyone tell me what is the best car for starters to drive on the roads like hyderabad. My office is in gachibowli and our company offices are in banjara hills,Madhapur.I have to start attending my office from this july.I am learning driving in this time and my father is getting me a new car.

I don't want a Ultra premium luxury car ,I just a a mid range luxury or just luxury car with drive comfort and in particular, more more more drive comfort, like if I buy the car,I should be happy taking it to a drive to outside.

Currently I have a thunderbird and I go on a ride for it every morning. And I just want the same with my car.

I think you people don't mind for my request.
