Won't it damage the original carpeting in long run ? I have seen that velcro sticks to the carpeting but also pulls out fiber and the area keeps on becoming fluffy suppose if the whole surface is velcro it will be difficult to remove and will pull lots of fibre every-time you pull them out for cleaning ( almost 2/3 times a weak in my case)
A simple anti-skid layer ( little rough so that it offers friction but not Velcro) is much better |
Hi Amit,
That's a valid point. In my experience the mats did not damage the carpeting. I guess the quality of the velcro matters too. I've also noticed that after getting these mats the frequency of cleaning has also reduced. I take them out for cleaning only every 10-15 days.
I'm not qualified to answer that from a technical standpoint, but from personal experience, I've not seen any damage to the carpet fibres

Amit,
If you have this concern in mind then it is suggested to first fix a pvc full end to end mat and on top of that fix these kagu mats.
That will solve two purposes:
1. You original mat is now safe .
2. The pvc mat will cover all the nook and corners of the floor space , which the 3d will not. There will be areas under the seats where a lot of dust will settle and 3d mats cannot reach but pvc will.
3 . I have recently noticed a lot of cars doping this. No harm I guess.
4. However, if we place a pvc below the Velcro of 3d to a great extent the mats will be in place and not shift around I think. Need comments on this point.

3D mats has the same.
It is not the usual velcro we find on footwear's and all. Backside of 3D mats has a small amount of velcro type material. Though it doe not stick to floor carpet, it is enough to prevent movement of mat.
Star Car mats has the following information regarding their mats
"ECO mats is our Exclusive - SPIDER range of Star car mats model . Eco Star mats consist of three layers: Top layer is made up of TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber ), TPR are a unique class of engineering material, this material is typically used where flexibility & soft-touch is desired in the application. TPR main characteristics are - excellent flexural fatigue resistance, good tear & abrasion resistance and also excellent resistance to chemicals & weathering. Middle layer is made up of XPE Chemical cross-linked polyethylene (XPE).It is a very safe material, easy to be recycled & has a very good cushioning capability. Bottom layer is made up of very high quality VELCRO also know as kading .Velco helps to reduce mat movement, so it is less likely to slip, a principle cause of driver irritation and pedal obstruction. ECO Star mat comes with a metal foot pad on driver mat to reduce wear and tear. Star car mats are produced using premium quality & environmentally friendly material: non-toxic & odourless."
Just ordered a set for our Polo on the net (
www.carmatsindia.com), spoke to Mr. Anand and he will dispatch the mats today. Will provide my feedback as soon as I have them in the car.

Hi Anil,
I missed out your message of earlier.
I haven't installed them yet. Held up with work. Will get it done tomorrow I guess.
It's better you wait until these guys receive the stocks. Buying anything 'similar' to these , in my opinion is not worth it. The mats are expensive and always good go with the originals.
The above Statement is not my own but based on other bhpians suggestions, though I fully agree with.

Ok then it is not velcro but anti skid PVC layer.Valcro has tiny plastic hooks which fasten to fibre.
Star mat also has this but no valcro.

I am also inclined to wait for the arrival of the best quality mats. Till then I guess I will go in for some cheapo type.

It is not Velcro, but as rightly said a layer of anti skid material that provides good grip.
Got the 3D mats from
www.carmatsindia.com for my VW Polo. They cost only Rs. 2800 - free delivery. They are branded as Star Mats.
Their delivery was extremely prompt, ordered them on 16th July and they were delivered yesterday.
The packing was nice & the mats were of very good quality. It comes in 5 pieces as the pics show.
Fitted them in the Polo. Here are some pics :)
I would like some feedback if any of you have used these Star Mats

I am seeing below mats, which one is most premium in Star mats ?
ATLAS : STANDARD MATS - FOR A SIMPLE REFRESHED LOOK
ECO : EXCLUSIVE - DAPPER - SPIDER MATS
INDUS : PREMIUM MATS - QUALITY, ELEGANT STYLE & GREAT VALUE
SIGMA : ULTIMATE MATS - EXQUISITE MATS THAT WONT DISAPPOINT
Dear Shamanth,
I called their helpline before ordering and was told by them that the Eco mats are the best as they had only two options for the Polo Eco & Sigma. The Eco mats have the velcro at the bottom.
You can call them on their helpline, they are very efficient.

Is it a tight fit as I saw some gaps for the rear mat. Also is the velcro covering the entire mat or just the sides? How effective are they?
It is a tight fit and the velcro covers the entire underside of the mast. Pls see the photos I posted in this thread. Since I fitted them, they have not moved even 1 mm :)
I have also noticed that the internal dimensions of same model cars vary, minor gaps do not pose any issue.

I am using the same company mats in my Swift ZDi (in black though) from a few months and NO complaints with it whatsoever minus the 5th piece of mat that sits on the transmission tunnel. It is not plush fit with creases (as seen in your picture too) so I have removed the 5th piece and kept it aside. They should have given a 4-piece set rather than 5-piece.
Anurag.
Dear Anurag,
Great to know that you have been using the Star Mats for a few months without any issues. When I got the product, I was impressed with their prompt delivery, packaging and quality of the mats.
I am sure that Kagu & other more expensive mats have their own merit - however, these ones are lighter on the wallet clap:
I had ordered a set of mats for our Passat after fitting these mats in our Polo on Friday evening.
The mats for the Passat have been delivered to our home a short while ago, am truly impressed with their efficiency :) Cant wait to fit the mats in the Passat, will revert with a post soon
