Using a mechanical shape key will not immobilize engine permanently!
In Alto, the ICAT light remains on while cranking & the engine does not fire, that's all. If you use a 'real' key after that, it starts perfectly.

As suggested by others, go to a pro keymaker. You will save time & get a quality key made for a fraction of the cost. A shop which duplicates central locking remotes etc. will definitely have this facility.

Re: Bent car key, need spare

The less said the better about the electronic keys. I got a duplicate for my Grand Vitara for some obscene amount running into many thousands and they did not know how to activate it. Several calls to Maruti up & down they finally figured how to reprogram the key.....spent a whole 4-5 hours & then the damn thing worked.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Even,if its RFID based key,you can get a duplicate one made for a few hundered bucks.
They just transfer the RFID module\circuit to a new duplicate key.
A guy in chandigarh\panchkula does it.
try to find one who does the same in NCR.

IMO, go to a professional key maker, get it done for half the price.

EDIT:

I'm surprised that the 1.6 doesnt have it, where as the 1.1 stile has it. The service engineer confirmed that the SDE and SDX versions have the sigle code immobiliser.

according to PUG, 1.1 SLX comes with immobilizer - read more here PUG

I stand corrected - "some" Palios come with factory fitted engine immobilizer.

BD - best of luck - take care
This information seems a bit inconsistent. The fiat india website says nothing in the features list for the MJD versions. It only shows immobilizers for the petrol stiles which Dhanush posted. Thanks for the post!

Yes, I'm running the car for now with the single key (slightly bent), as soon as I get some free time I will get a spare.

Will do, I've already got some inputs from people I know in the car aftermarket/accessory business. Will keep the thread updated.

Re: Bent car key, need spare

Ok, went to Pallika, got the spare for 200 bucks. The guy had duplicates of every car manufacturer (fobs), with stock keys that had to be cut and filed into shape. He used a simple mechanical device to trace a profile along my key, while the other side had the spare stock key, where an identical profile was traced. Tried it a couple of times on my car, used a normal metal file to tune it up here and there, and I drove off a happy man.

Didn't really bargain, you can see the pic and understand why. Rs. 200, 15 mins work. Thanks everyone!

The blue one's the one I got today.

Definitely

But the real question is still unanswered - "Do Palios (Retro / Stile` / Adventure), Siena / Petra, Weekender come with Factory fitted Immobilizer?"

I am glad that BD's problem got solved congrats.
