Bolero - Make 2nd row back rest foldable

Hi - as we all know in all the cars the 2nd row back rest is foldable. In some it folds in much more fancier way like 60/40, 30/30/40 etc. And is some it folds in all possible directions which will give contortionist a complex.

In Bolero it is fixed which makes it highly impossible to carry any large loads (when it does have so much space) I want to make at least the back rest fold down. Has anyone done it with minimum effort?

Your best bet is to find a used seat from any of the SUVs MUVs like Tavera, Scorpio, etc.

Re: Bolero - Make 2nd row back rest foldable

It won't be that difficult a modification for any competent seat specialist. Just make sure there is no compromise in quality for the locking system and hinges (when the back rest is to be locked in place). In fact, you could try sourcing the parts and arms from a Mahindra dealer itself.

@ 4x4addict : Good suggestion, but it could pose issues in width & height.

I too am looking forward to do this to Hariya and have been researching for people who can do it, unsucessfully thus far.

Scorpio foldable seats are very expensive at 60k INR for the middle seat alone. Just not worth it IMO when buying the seat only.

Am from Bangalore too. Will keep each other posted. 60K is too high for me too. M&M ASC is pushing us (Bolero owners) far & far away. All the ASC within city limits caters to XUV and Scorpio only.

That is bad, but I ve seen Boleros and Thars being serviced at SKS, Bannerghatta road. Did you check with them?
I will keep you updated about any progress I make on the seat modification.

Have you guys found any options for getting this done? One of my friends has got Bolero and needs exact same thing to be done. He is also interested in adding few other practical mods to his Bolero, something like below

1. Removing jump seats and adding a foldable middle row OR adding captain seats (I guess we can pick ones from Innova or Tavera for this one)
2. Replacing the steering wheel with the one comes with Scorpio
3. Adding some practical space in terms of center console box and door pockets etc.
4. repaint job
5. Rear wiper and scorpio ORVMs

Let me know if you guys have any idea where in Bangalore someone can do these kind of jobs!
Thanks.

Re: Bolero - Make 2nd row back rest foldable

A very good option is to use the third row Innova seats. These can be easily fitted over the rear wheel well and these can roll up to the side, into very compact dimensions when required. You can get used seats for around 3000 bucks and spend 2-3K on repairing and refurnishing them. The only disadvantage would be loss of overall seat width, vis-a-vis the Bolero's stock second row.

Re: Bolero - Make 2nd row back rest foldable

Met someone in Peenya ASC who wanted their Bolero middle seat sliding and folding. Gave him my tinker's number and he sorted it out one Sunday afternoon.

I think the rear side facing seats were removed though!

Will ask him to send me some pics and will post when I get them.

Regards,
Manas

1. Not possible/not recommended, you see, the Bolero has very little space in the last row and anything bigger than the current seats will make it extremely cramped.

2. The steering column design is completely different and hence not possible without major modifications to the steering which is not recommended at all. What he can put is one of those aftermarket steering wheels which are available for most cars.

3. This can be done through a good seat maker. I stay at Basaweshwaranagar and know a very good seat maker. Tell your friend that I can take him there and get it done at a competitive rate.
4. Why does he want a repaint?

5. This is possible but will need an expert who can choose the appropriate motor which fits into the slim rear door of the Bolero, drill the appropriate holes and arrange for the wiring and a switch. Complex but possible with a good mechanic.

Manas: Can you PM me your tinkerer's number and location please? I want to get my Scorpio's middle row recline if possible.

Thanks for the quick response Dev,

regarding the #1. He wants to completely remove the third row and dedicate that for luggage, also, he wants to remove the existing seat (which is not foldable I guess and then put a foldable one for middle row so that he can extend the luggage space even more.

Agreed for #2, I was suggesting not to change the mechanical stuff drastically and keep the overall dynamics intact as long as possible - he may get a wheel replaced at the most

#3, thanks for offering help on this one, I will let him know and he can directly get in touch with you or you can provide him the details and he'll take that up with your reference/help

#4, I guess he wants to do this since its 7 years old now and need a bit fresh look

Regarding #5, Let me know if you know a reliable person who can do this job in Banalore, I will ask him to take that up.

Thanks again.

You are welcome Ketan. Since he is looking at getting it painted, it would be easier to get the rear wiper modification done. I have a few good mechanics and can set him up with them.

Replacing the steering wheel with that of the Scorpio is not possible and I would advise him to drop the idea completely. If the current wheel is in bad shape, he can purchase a new Bolero steering wheel and replace it.

Re: Bolero - Make 2nd row back rest foldable

Waiting for the update and keeping fingers crossed on the costs involved. Have been thinking about this for last couple of weeks now, since I have had to take my son's cycle for repair in an auto a couple of times. I struggle to fit a much smaller cycle (that of my daughter) in the Bolero.

I saw my neighbour folding up the rear seat in his Innova and putting in a full size cycle. Envy..envy....

Re: Bolero - Make 2nd row back rest foldable

Has anyone finally been able to convert the second row bench seats in foldable seats from anywhere?

If yes, what was the cost incurred?

I am contemplating on buying a Bolero 4x4, and this would be one mod I would be interested in for sure, along with the addition of Rear Wiper and Washer.
