It's a gear stick that's about an inch shorter than your OE stick. Shorter the stick, lesser is the distance to throw the stick into which ever gear, hence better is the reaction. It's only meant for the supposedly hardcore racing drivers.

Godspeed.

Will a short shifter fix the notchy gearing problems in Optra, or does that require a whole new gearbox?

Hi Guys,

I saw traffic coming to our site from this thread so I thought I'd stop in and hopefully answer your questions. Here's a quote from our site explaining what a short shifter is:

The geometry of a short shifter differs from the stock shifter in order to reduce the distance that the upper section where your shift knob threads on needs to move to achieve the same degree of movement in the lower section where the shift rod or shifter cables attach. This ensures that although your hand is moving a shorter distance, the transmission is still fully engaged in every gear. The main pivot point, or fulcrum of the shifter lever is re-positioned on the shaft in such a way that the lower section which connects to the shift rod or shifter cables is longer than stock, resulting in the desired effect. A TWM short shifter is carefully designed to create the optimal throw length, angular shift throw, and shift knob height resulting in the ultimate short shifter.

Here's the link with diagrams actually explaining the above paragraph graphically: What is a short shifter?

I hope this helps!

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: short shifter for my corolla

Hello, Sorry about digging up this old post, thanks to TBHP's search (really nice).

I am thinking of getting a twm short shifter for my 2003, 1.5L petrol lancer.
here it is : Mitsubishi Lancer Short Shifter - TWM Performance Lancer Short Shifters

I wanted to know if some one tried it here in India and how does it work with respect to our day to day usage.
