Re: Maruti Swift "Special" - 1.4L VVT, Unichip Tuned, 112 BHP!

Header and BMC changed:

Since the last one week i've been running the car on stock exhaust system (from catalytic converter to end muffler) and stock airbox with a K&N replacement filter. I got tired with the sound under acceleration and i'm now enjoying silence and the shifted torque curve, engine has enough torque low down to overtake without downshifting and is fun inside the city. This is setup is good as long as you don't want to hurry the engine, it feels a bit lethargic if you expect it to be as quick as it was while on headers and BMC, top end is a bit low. But like i said earlier I love the silence so going to retain this for a while.

Wideband install:

Today I installed an AEM UEGO wideband controller gauge today. Had made the provision on the stock manifold to take an extra sensor before i got the manifold installed last week. The wideband reached me yesterday and so installed it today. The most difficult part of the install was to take the wire from the engine bay into the cabin through the main grommet in the firewall, the one behind the airbox. It was very difficult as the wire was getting blocked somewhere so took a break and but there was joy in the second attempt after lunch Once the wire came through it was really a simple job of providing ground, power and plugging in the connectors. Yet to buy a gauge pod.

Wideband Sensor on the left and stock narrrowband on the right.

Gauge. Reading- this is the first cold start of the engine after the install.

Re: Maruti Swift "Special" - 1.4L VVT, Unichip Tuned, 112 BHP!

Completed 20,000KMs so far, of which around 6500KMs is after the 1.4L conversion.

Changes made since last update:
  • Changed Magnaflow exhaust to stock exhaust, headers still on. Cleaned the welds and finishing inside the headers the best i could.
  • Changed BMC OTA air intake to smoothed out stock airbox with K&N panel filter and sealed resonator. Stock airbox even with K&N didn't work very well with headers as it stifled the motor past 5000RPM; but smoothed stock airbox with sealed resonator flows well and keeps the motor going strong till redline.
  • Gappped iridium spark plugs from their factory .030" clearance to .045" clearance, better midrange torque with no negatives at the top end.
  • Bought and installed a set of Ritz ZXI's alloy wheels, noticed that these alloys are made by ENKEI. Great.

Having been through all this, will i do this again if i were to?
No, Buy a diesel instead and get a remap done. More economy and as much fun.

@Sankar
Good to see your modified Swift can match Global Swift Sport.
Did you notice any Performance Issues or NVH problems or Degrade in Vehicle Quality lately (White Smoke?).

Could you please let me know How long it took and How much it costed. Just a Ball Park Number would do.

Also can you share Spitfire JB Contact Number. I would really like to tune My Wagon R to make it performance wagon(Some where 100+bhp and loads of Torque ).
I could not PM else would have used that option.

Re: Maruti Swift "Special" - 1.4L VVT, Unichip Tuned, 112 BHP!

It was a Swift so i don't think the cost figures would help you out with your WagonR as its a completely different engine. The work at Spitfire took about a month iirc. You can look up the member "sapl" in our team bhp member's list and contact him, he's spitfire. A colleague did his esteem at spitfire few months back and he's not completely satisfied with the job done.

Kudos to your effort!

Now this is how one should be working on a NA engine. Any plans of adding a turbo now?

@Sankar what happened to the project. I guess after your last post you have moved away from this project...

Would you know if the K14 engine in the Ertiga is the same K12 block with increased stroke or is it an entirely different engine?
In which case the K14 internals will also work on the K12.
Wanted to know if the Ertiga Parts were used. Now that Maruti has the K15 engine is it possible to stroke out the K12 engine to 1.5L using the parts of the S-Cross/XL6/Ciaz/Brezza.

There are a lot of shared components between these two motors, but some critical components seems different.

But without an engine management computer this wouldn't work as well since fueling and timing needs to be optimised.
Did you use Ertiga parts or something else.

Do you mind sharing the parts list. I'm planning to do this mod on a Baleno 1.2.
Also what changed did you do to the ECU? Remap or Piggyback.

Do note that unlike K14 which was a K12 with longer stroke, K15 has different bore and stroke figures. This is exactly why K14 is an easier swap if you go the half engine way, where head etc can be reused.

Bore x Stroke figures of all the three engines:

K12: 73 mm × 71.5 mm
K14: 73 mm × 82 mm
K15: 74 mm × 85 mm

Shashi
