That is definitely one awesome restoration. The car looks absolutely fabulous. My uncle used to own one and I remember being in awe, looking at my uncle lifting the rear windshield to keep stuff in the boot ( I was 5).

@Asish - the engine is the original stock carb engine.

@zenren- Do have the original stanley seat covers although they have wear and tear. The seat covers were put over the orignal stock black/chequered seats which were for the standard car.

Royamrit, Congratulations on a first class 'restoration to original' job right down to those check pattern seats. Brings back a flood of memories. These early pieces were made almost completely from Japanese parts and hence (so I was once told by a Maruti man) are of a higher quality than the ones that were built say several years later. My late father owned a blue one which I was not allowed to touch on my furloughs at home till I got married and ostensibly got more responsible! Power to you. Are you now the new owner. If you ever think of selling remember Goldie's hit song "Call me".

Wow! That is one superbly restored Maruti 800! It's hard to find such immaculately good cars. I remember, there used to be a sky blue colour and a biscuit brown colour also in these. Really nostalgic feeling seeing that beauty in the pictures. A few queries - how much did it cost you overall to complete the restoration, if you don't mind? What's that part in the photo, where it is specified Winter/Summer? Some kind of thermostat control? Did these cars come with seat-belts?

Anyways an awesome restoration! Why are you then selling it off?

Thanks for your kind words about the restoration.

Let me first say that most of the credit goes to the original owner who kept the car in pristine condition. The car had never ever had a knock or dent and thus the bodylines are so smooth. The doors are absolutely perfect and the "click: of them shutting is something we don't hear anymore.

Secondly, I also understand a lot of co-members anguish about me selling of the beauty.

I am a restorer by hobby and this was my first restoration project. I was lucky to get a beautiful stock car and have ensured everything is kept absolutely original stock. But I want to move onto a new project and have enjoyed this car for more than one year.

I also restored a 1975 Vespa Sprint ( please see Forum- mobikes about it ) and after completing these two projects , have two more classic cars lined up for restoration.

So I want to sell :-).

WOW. The pic looks as if taken 25 years ago(without the cars in the background ).
People born in 70's and 80's really go back and forth upon seeing this car. Used to be the envy of many a chetak and vespa riding junta. I feel like hugging this car will take me back to my childhood.

This is beautiful. I remember when I was doing my articleship at Lucknow in 1993, the boss had a similar model and drove this for several years. This used to be an icon for us and the way and the space he would park his red shiny 800 could tell us not only how long he had been in office, or how long he intended to stay, but probably what his mood would be!

First of all an awesome job, and what a coincidence just last week on my way to the office in JP Nagar, Bangalore I saw a perfectly restored (mint condition) M800 same color driven by an individual probably in his 70's. Missed taking some snaps however the condition was "MINT".

It surely brought back a lot of memories and made my day
