i use 3M finesse IT rubbing compound. Should be available at most auto paint shops

@mailmaldi - You can easily remove/lessen(depending upon the depth of the scratch) the scratches from the panel!

but the dent proper cannot be removed(unless you opt for a dent repair and paintjob on the affected panel)

Try using rubbing compounds like 3M Finesse it(as greenhorn mentioned)
but its quite powerful compound and leaves scratches of its own(as I observed)

and you need a mild rubbing compound/polish to remove those scratches then!(I use Meguiars ScratchX / Formula1 ScratchOut)


Rubbing compounds are abrasives that abrade the clear coat surrounding the scratch. This causes the scratch to become less visible as the surrounding clear coat comes at the level of the scratch.

It should only be used when the scratch is limited to clear coat!(depth assessed by running your finger nail perpendicular to the paint surface across the scratch)

If your nail gets stuck, that means that the scratch is deep and the rubbing compound might not be able to correct the defect.

If the scratch is superficial, use mild qty of '3M Finesse it'

and always apply rubbing compound across the scratch line and not along it!

Gilead, why is the scratch appearing as black? I thought under the top paint coat, it would be kind of whitish primer paint (in my MS it looks like that)..You would have to be very carefull using a rubbing compound as it can spread the defect and make it look worse.

Did u try getting a quote from mpl/cf or for that matter the bosch opp avm studios (another one near Jawahar Vidyalaya, Ashok nagar, cheaper here). If there is no dent, i guess the bosch center fellow can do it for cheap. The avm studio quoted some 25K for full body paint of my ikon (it had a paint+baking booth), whereas the ahk ngr fellow qouted 14K (no specialised baking booth)..it should cost you <1K IMO, if you try out with either of these guys. Check out with mpl/cf as well. Maybe they will try to suggest a full panel coat, but if you insist a spray only on the affected area, they might relent.

Alternatively, you can paste a "limited edition" sticker on that..visit pudupet this sunday, you may be surprised with what all you can with these stickers;-}

This looks like a scratch on the bumper. Is it a Blue Blaze Ritz?. I had a bigger one and I used com-paint. It worked like a charm as I followed all the directions right. But if the cut is deep it will still show up the depth of the cut, but the colour would be back on it..
Let me know if you need more inputs.

Gilead, this is the sticker job I did. I know, it looks creepy (particularly becos it has a deep dent as well)..but for the time being, I want to live with it some time, and at least it is not an eyesore.

For com paint, you can look at similar colors for other car/models as well. It is avlbl in Chennai.

I don't know why it's black. Maybe the CF guys will know 'cos they did it! Maybe it touched a black car standing there. There is no dent though. I am definitely not going back to CF for this. I am planning to try some DIY rubbing myself to see if I can at least make the black disappear.

The sticker job looks good. But why don't you replace the prancing horse with a Shelby Cobra. More apt. :D

You need to be carefull about the rubbing compound though! AFAIK, the rubbing compound works by spreading the colors from the nearby areas..I hope the black does not spread and make the situation work. A paint spray maybe the only option.

Will not some i20 blue shade or other close shade do the job?

I am done with spending too much time (lot of work piled-up becos of attention to the car) and hence did some quickfix with 100 bucks( total 8 stickers)..plan is to give a new look each month with a new theme! My own variation to keep pace with the oh-so-frequent limited editions launches!:D

sir, u could go for the compaint touchup cans. or else if you dont want any kind of diy, then u could go to a professional painter and get the job done. compaint would cost you something around 300 bucks. i did it to my linea and alto.

Should I wait for 1st service (<200KM on odo right now)? Maybe they will do the paint job for cheaper then. How much does it cost to re-paint a bumper anyway?

Com-paint was the first solution that came to my mind but I am little reluctant to use it.

thing is, you can use com paint(my scratch was similar sized), but after my experience, I'd be a bit more wary.
Use rubbing compound to reduce the damage.

Compared to what it was, it certainly looks very good . you must be reasonably satisfied ...... Do let me know if you've found a way to remove the coarseness

Meonbhp, good thing is, most of the damage is on your bumper. I'd much rather repaint a bumper than a body panel. Suggestion : Get the bumper repainted, and use some rubbing compound / minor touch up for the fender (don't repaint the entire front fender).
