performance mods for a lancer... MIVEC engine transplant

heyy... this is my first post on this forum... i've been actively checking out some of the threads on the forum... and quite frankly i'm astounded by the knowledge and passion you guys have about cars... much respect..

i currently own an elantra gt and a honda city...selling the city this week and lookin forward to buying an old lancer... from wat i've learnt through the posts on the forum, the lancer engine's 87 hp... i'm lookin to do a substantial amount of performance mods on the lancer n perhaps get into the cosmetics later...

i think there are 2 members here, nitrous n sideways, who have gotten mivec transplants on their lancers.... it'd be of great help if the members on the forum could give me more details about the mivec engine--- wher i can get it from, the cost involved, problems faced during and after mounting, performance etc. Also, if the mivec is naturally aspirated, is it possible to get a turbo charger kit installed??

i spoke to a guy in delhi who's willing to let me test drive 2 lancers that he's turbo'd wen i come there next month... i'm from bangalore, so it'd help if u could give me info keeping that in mind...

lookin forward to some helpful advice...

Hi Monkey,
AFAIK Nitrous doesn't have a Lancer. He drives a Ford Ikon which is very nicely polished and shiny.

This thread will give you a nice idea of how it goes.
For more, you could PM Sideways. Good luck with the conversion.

Me? MIVEC? I WISH!
Monkey, let us know ur budget for the mods.
MIVEC is the best way to go for a Lancer.
I've experienced a lot of turbo lancers and they ain't that reliable. For reliability, u'll need to get a bolt-on kit which would be around 1.8 Lakhs and u still dont get the factory build reliability that a MIVEC gives.

Why dont you come and test drive our mivec lancer when you come to delhi next month!? Already have one engine roaring but not on the road as yet as body mods are still under progress.

Cheers.

one more moneky on the block!! luck with the lancer, but why would you not swap a b series high spec honda engine into your existing car instead of buying a lancer and starting from there.

manson.

at all... thanks guys... nice to see people posting on the topic so quickly...

at nitrous... i came across a post on another thread that said u and sideways had mivecs... so i referred to you... sorry for the mistake...

at manson... yeah man was thinking of doing up the city further.. maybe a b15 engine or something.... but i've been having terrible luck with the car... verrrry long story... n the lancer's always been my 1st love... its like wet clay to a modd freak... so goin for it now that i have the chance

at arush (if i may call u tat) ... that'd be absolutely great... i'd love to try out one of them mivecs wen i come down on the 12th... plz let me know what number i can contact u on.... and as a token of appreciation, i'l try n convince my friend into convinving his friend to convince his cousin (i know its a little complicated) to bring one of his lambos to ur workplace (yes he's got 2 of them apparently)

i'm actually checking out a mivec lancer tomorrow... here in bangalore... the owner got the engine through some mr. patel in chennai.... will get more details and post here tomorrow... want to be very careful when it comes to importing an engine... dont want to get duped or anything...

also arush and sideways.... how is the car performing? have there been any hassles with regard to maintenance?? i heard u have to wait atleast 10 days to get a part fixed if something goes wrong...

cheers

You're talking to NIVIT BHASIN of HYPER PERFROMANCE MOTORSPORTS. He's an idiot & a total con-job to put it very mildly. If I tell you what I actually think of him & his work I'll be banned from the forum!

Please Please don't get any work done from him & if you want to TD his cars I'll come along with you just to show you the "TOP QUALITY" work he does. Search around on the forum, you'll find a thread where I had found out the truth about how shoddy a job he does on the cars.

yeah i think thats his name... i went throug this other thread where a red accord's been done up by him... and i agree.... thats definitely not the kind of work i'd want to get done on my car...
i'm more inclined to go for the mivec than turbo the existing engine on the lancer... is that a good decision?? what kind of performance can i look for from a stock mivec... sideways mentioned its capable of a 11 second quarter mile.... but is that possible with a stock mivec without too many other performance mods??

Hi DM and welcome to the forum. With regards to the conversion, it's the simplest thing you can opt for. You get more than double the power of a stock Lancer, and there is no cutting chopping or any kind of hassle. I have posted the numbers realted to performance in my gallery. These have been taken from Mitsubishi's site.

All you need to do is to take care of the oil (fully synthetic) which is recomended to be changed at every 5000 Km interval. This due to the high revving nature of the engine. It is redlined to 8300 rpm on a stock non modified engine. Apart form that the gas you use is also important. 100+ octane is recomended. But 97 does just fine.

With regards to mileage, it all depends on how heavy your right foot is. The worst i have got is 6.5 km to the litre.

Fortunately and touch wood, I have had no hassles so far. With regards to availability of spares, there arent any available in India with respect to the engine and will have to be sourced from Singapore, Japan or Malaysia. But, like I said, no problems as yet.

Overall it's a fun car to drive and very reliable. 11 secs to the quater is possible only with some major mods which I wouldnt really recomend. After driving one you wont feel the need for more power. And with our road conditions and traffic it's a waste of time. Let me know if i can be of further help.

heyy thanks a lot sideways... i did check out the performance specifications in your gallery..

i met a guy called aditya this evening... he owns a black lancer with a 1600cc mivec engine in it... maybe you know... he has also gotten the transplant from mr. patel... and he said that krupesh patel takes care of any tuning hassles that he has...

i have taken two pics of his engine bay... let me know what you guys think about the quality of the installation..

also, he was telling me that getting a turbo charger in addition to the mivec is too much of a hassle and that not many people would actually go for it... what do u guys think?

and yeah.. i agree that the car's got plenty of power for everyday use but i wanted to know how much needs to put into it when it comes to preparing for a drag if i need to expect a sub-13 second time out of it??

i think the mivec also comes in the 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre versions... is it possible to get one of those too sideways??

and finally... what would all the bhp-ians recommend??
1. go for a mivec and keep it stock
2. turbo charge the existing lancer engine
3. stick to a honda city and may be supercharge it

Hello every one

I was going thru the tec and mod threads. And came upon various methods of improving the performnce. Well i own a lancer. It is a nice car lookwise. But very much underpowered as said.Well am not into racing stuff. But at times feel to improve the performance.Already ve a K&N per filter. But need some more.So could someone tell me which one will be the best.

Grooving the head (SS)
Installing a turbo
MIVEC is too expensive so forget it.

Will any of these cause problems in the long run.
