Dyno session at Harmonixx Tuning | Dynojet 224xLC 2WD Dynamometer

Harmonixx Tuning has setup a Dyno testing facility in Bangalore.

This Dyno can measure upto 2000 HP. It can be also loaded with the help of Eddy current brakes. It is 2WD dyno but can be converted to 4WD in future with add on parts.

Specifications & Features:

They have also installed a custom made fan with 20 HP motor which can blow wind at 140+kmph.

I also went through multiple runs done by them. The runs were consistent and repeatable.

I wanted to dyno my stage 3 S-Cross 1.6 since long time and Harmonixx tuning setup in Bangalore came up at right time. My other option was Dynapack dyno at Arka Motorsports, Coimbatore.

I wanted to check the gains over stock. I asked if anyone is interested to dyno in our S-Cross group and 4 guys joined in. So we had stock, stage 1+, stage 2 and stage 3 cars up for the dyno. Mr. Rahul (Harmonixx tuning) was very helpful and answered all our queries. We fixed on a date and it was going to be interesting as we had five S-Cross 1.6 to get dynod.

The line-up of cars (all S-Cross 1.6):

1. Stock
2. Stage 1+
3. Stage 2
4. Stage 3 with Chinese Intercooler
5. Stage 3 with Garrett Intercooler (mine)

All the tuned cars are running with Wolf Moto remaps.

Do note that Dyno runs are mainly done to compare the gains, fine tune the maps etc. It's not just for showing numbers. That's why I badly needed a stock car for the dyno.

Few pics clicked during dyno day

We did multiple pulls in every car and the results were repeatable. Repeatability is very important for a dyno. I found the torque reading slightly higher in this dyno, anyways it's not a concern when you are comparing the gains.

The runs were done in 4th gear. The dyno was set to start recording at 1500 rpm, but as per Rahul the actual reading would start a bit late and he adviced to consider the graph post 2000 rpm.

Stock vs Wolf Stage 1+ vs Stage 2

Wolf: Stage 3 with Garrett IC vs Stage 3 with Chinese IC

Peak numbers at Crank

Stock: 131 HP / 368 NM
Stage 1+: 156 HP / 407 NM
Stage 2: 165 HP / 428 NM
Stage 3 with Chinese IC: 202 HP / 428 NM
Stage 3 with Garrett IC: 202 HP / 438 NM

It was really a good time at dyno and also interacting with fellow enthusiasts. Big thank you to fellow S-Cross 1.6 owners for making this dyno session successful. Mr. Rahul from Harmonixx tuning was around all the time and he personally did dyno pulls of every car.

Location of dyno facility:

GT Tuners, Peenya (Bangalore)

How much does it cost ?

Harmonixx has different packages. You can hire the dyno on hourly basis or pay for each car or even book full working day.

1.6.5 k for one car (6 pulls)

2. 12k for one hour ( extra 1k per car for strapping and unstrapping)

3. Full day (11 am to 4 pm): 60k (strapping and unstrapping charges are additional)

It is really interesting to estimate those numbers on stage3! and how the car performs on the roads. How much of a change do you experience in the pickup and consistent acceleration. Is stage1 going to be your daily option?

Back in 2015, I've interacted with Rahul for purchasing the audio setup for my Safari Strome, we discussed few options over the phone and then he personally took care to pack the equipment and courier to Hyderabad via a Bus service. He is a reliable professional with honest suggestions about the products and the budget range.

Stock: 11.3 seconds
Stage 3: 6.9 seconds

Scross 1.6 DDIS power and torque numbers claimed by Maruti are 118hp/320Nm. These numbers are mostly at the crank as that is what generally the manufacturers provide. Here even the stock Scross numbers are higher than that claimed by Maruti. Maybe a different scale factor has to be used for converting wheel power/torque numbers to crank.
Moreover, the dyno should provide the power and torque numbers at the wheel. Are these numbers available? Anyways quite impressive numbers for the Stage 3 mapped Scross.

Yes, the dyno has shown higher than expected numbers. There is a possibility that Maruti has underquoted the figures too. Celtic Tuning UK had also got 133 hp at crank for stock S-Cross 1.6.

We were concerned about the gains not absolute numbers, that's why even stock car was dynod

Yes, I have the figures at wheels too. Posting the dyno graph of my car.

At Wheels: 190 HP / 421 NM
At Crank: 202 HP / 438 NM
