hmm..now this is what I like it.:p

Very interesting, informative thread and the car looks really good. Two questions.

1. Looking at the worn-out Energy XM1 tyre in post #1, can we say that this is centre-wear, because we do see some tread left in the shoulders? It is not clear from the picture just how much tread is left. I am comparing this picture to that given in the carbibles website:

Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible

See the picture titled "Over-inflation" immediately under the section "Diagnosing problems from tyre wear". Could one possible reason for the observed wear be over-inflation? Other reasons mentioned for centre-wear are: "improper matching of rims and tyres" and "tyres haven't been rotated recently".

2. In post # 35, is that a sidewall bulge in the old Energy XM1 tyre? If so, I am glad that these tyres have been kicked out at least now. About time.

I don't think it's due to overinflation. the first post clearly shows that the tyres were evenly worn out. Whatever tread visible is only on the shoulders. And shoulders and not really under contact.

Also in post #35 the tyre is worn out unevenly as you mentioned.

Remember that the OHC does have a bigger camber angle under load so that could be one of the reasons. The energy's are assymetrical tyres and coupled to the camber anlgle it is expected for the inner to wear out faster than the outer.

Also he has done more than 50K+ kms on these tyres plus his suspension was shot as well for a few 1000kms so I really doubt you can point it to overinflation.

Thanks Ishan for the informative prices.

Buttttt Ishan 1.4L plus kms on the engine and you still using mineral oil?

What nice work complete mechanical overhaul is there any part that has not been serviced or replaced. One could have got a complete course on the mechanicals of a vtec by seeing your cars photos through the thread.Very nicely written and explained I must say. Sure you have spent a good fortune 96 k(you could have got tata's 1 lakh car for that amount) ,when was the last time you serviced your car?Why were the drive shafts replaced you did not mention any trouble on that part.

Thank you but the 1L car won't even give me a fraction of the car's driving pleasure no would it! And she's serviced regularly, usually every 5-7k.

Drive shafts were replaced because they had worn out & were making the "kat-kat" sound upon taking turns. No other option there.

I agree. Once the tyre has been taken to the end of its life, I suppose it can wear out unevenly for any number of reasons. I think if there is a substantial amount of tread left in the shoulders while the centre wears out prematurely (well ahead of the tyre's expected life) then we can suspect overinflation.

Also if the tyres are very wide in relation to the rim width, I think we can expect premature centre wear at normal tyre pressures. If we reduce tyre pressures to compensate for this, we may find that the handling becomes poor and tyre life will again drop due to excessive sidewall deformation.

I would have chosen the bangkok trip for this money. ;)

But, seriously, i think you can forget about maintanence for the next 3 years at least. Only thing left out was the electricals.

I think you should stop nitpicking rks, the tyre has done its duty efficiently for 50k kms, why would anyone want to point out tyre wear now (after 50k kms). i will show you my MRF Zigma CCs (the steel belts are jutting out), they served me well too, but i never enjoyed driving on them.
