Never ever heard of any such law. Do you have any legal source? Looks like a factoid. Death on road without motive is by law deemed an accident. The compensation if any is paid by government of respective states(eg. Bihar pays 5 Lakhs) and GoI( 2 Lakhs).

Sorry for going off topic.

Rhino was very similar to Tavera, I believe. See if you can find one. Iirc Tavera engine would not fit in Ambassador, dimensions doesn't seem to match. Contessa with its long wheel base would be a match. Contessa will also have similar width. Plus it's one of the last muscle car.

It's a cool project. Carry it out, will be fun to watch and learn, keep updating.

Though off-topic, it is good to be clear on the legal ramifications of such a major modification before taking the risk.

Modified vehicles will not get covered under insurance or will get their insurance cover rendered invalid after investigation into an accident claim involving fatality.

In that scenario, the owner is bound to compensate the victim.

Here is a case where the amount fixed in compensation is running in to crores which would be levied on the owner in case of lack/invalidation of insurance. Link 1

Here is a case where the owner of the car without insurance facing the real deal posting his ordeal in our forum. Link 2 (Co-passenger dies, car insurance expired - Advice?)

Actually no use because everyone would just want to ask questions without reading the old posts and old threads. The question you asked have been answered here in the past. If you wish to know more go through section 52 of the motor vehicles act. Putting in a completely different engine is legally possible but difficult (practically impossible).

Re: Best Donor vehicle for Tavera 2.5L BS3 Engine

Most pragmatic would be to search for an old Tavera whose engine gave way. Else it will be unnecessarily a long drawn project. Talking mainly about integrating the Engine-Chassis-Suspension geometry, you likely can reasonably hope to achieve a well built vehicle like this. Reliable or not depends on how the work, anyway I assuming this is not for any form of regular use.

IF this were US/Australia, maybe it would've been built to be road legal, but for better or worse, such builds are not valid in India. The vehicle cannot be insured either, even 3rd party insurance will not be provided.

Let us know how things go.

It may be worth the effort to mate this engine with a small tractor's GB and chassis, making for a sporty go-anywhere vehicle that will not be debarred from use due to NGT rules.

Actually, why not create a dune buggy or ATV or something like that ? Will test your skills and ingenuity to it's limits.

Hi All, Thank you for your responses.

From all the comments it seems like it would be difficult to do a engine swap just like that. Also I do not want to kill this good working engine.

Suppose if I want to bring the TAVERA back to its original tip top condition mechanically not including any any engine work, how much budget should I have.

Renovation required for Interior Plastics
Complete vehicle repainting
All wheel bearings and associated parts
Suspensions and associated parts
Any other mechanical parts to improve the ride quality

Main point is the availability of Chevrolet parts

Just for reference the vehicle has been driven for ~330,000km so far, no error codes on the dash and luckily engine and engine bed is super good and just need a oil service. Technically its a barebone mechanical vehicle with no electronics except the ECU.

Based on the ground reality ill think of renovating or scraping the whole vehicle.

Thanks in advance,
