my e-zen

hey guys,

been a silent member for quite sometime, and finally i have something worth putting up pictures .

i bought a '99 model carb zen a year and a half back with the intention of making it into a fun car (read pocket rocket). so over the last one year have been collecting tit-bits for the car as and when i had the opportunity.

the car is running a carb 1.3 engine with forged crank/rods & high compression pistons. a ported and polished head with a 272 cam. at the time the engine was being put together didnt have time to make a header so ported a original manifold.its running a gti close ratio gearbox..., a set of compomotive motorsport wheels which make the car look very nice.

all this put together the car is a flyer.... in gear acceleration puts a lot of bigger more powerfull cars to shame ....

this is all for the time being as i have other 'white elephants' to wake up...
but next up will be a cam pulley a different intake manifold, and header manifold and a fresh coat of paint.once all this is done it should be a pocket-rocket in the true sense....

hope you guys like what i put together....

phil

Nicely done

I'd suggest remove all the stickers and make the car an absolute sleeper

I like the fact that you have kept it sleeper. Well done.

To me the tyre size looks inadequate for such power. Slightly broader tyres will help with the handling.

Hey is this 8v or a 16v head? Looks like 16v to me.
Also what carb is that.
Those wheels look gorgeous man.
Congrats on your bomb of a Zen. I really miss my Zen :(

Unfortunately the Zen can not afford the luxury of wider tyres as they'd stick out of the wheel well. Unlike the Swift which has adequate margins for wider rubber.

I think the max would be ONE upsize though I doubt it.

Mr. Speedsport care to comment ?

Cheers

Zen can take the following upsizes.
145/80-13
145/70-13
155/65-13
155/70-13
165/60-13
195/45-14.

A lot depends on the width of alloys.

In which case I would go with 165/60/13. It I think HARD I recall I used to have 165 on my ZEN in 1998, but I needed to put spacers on the springs/struts in order to handle that.

Honestly I have no idea what Mr. Speedsport has on his rims, so I shall refrain from uncalled for comments henceforth !!!

Cheers

An E-zen is always a nice thing to read about, theres something different in every new build.Nice ride buddy, could you put up some acc,top speed figures. Also the cost for conversion with a breakup for parts like engine, gearbox, etc.
