M&M Bolero glx - suggestion for mod.

For all Diesel fans,
I have a 2002 M&M Bolero Glx. The engine develops approx 72.5 bhp @ 4000 rpm AND 17 kgm @ 2000 rpm. The car has very good traction at low speeds inb the city but fares very bad at higher speeds.
1. Is there any mods thats can be done to boost the performance of a Bolero engine, like filters etc.??
2. What upsize of tyres can i use other than 215/75 R15?

Dear Chaxy,
I too have a 2001 model Bolero. What kind of mods do you think will suit a Bolero. Can change the front dashboard panelling, it looks boring now.

If you get any info please share with me too.

Mahindra just added a Turbo to this engine. I dont think it should be anymore than a bolton. Why dont you check with the company / your dealership?

I think the Turbo engine in the Bolero is with the DI engine (as used in the camper) and that s a very agricultural engine- makes teh DICOR appear state of the art. The IDI with turbo is only for the export market as of now.

The turbo is only available on the 2.5l DI engine and not the XD3P.

hi..
if u go by my words go in for a k&n cone filter and mobil 1 synthetic oil. you'll be able to feel a little increase in power and pickup. wheras the tyres in your car seem nice but you can get a size bigger than the stock tyres. thats about all you can do to your car at the moment. i think you may be able to also put a free flow exaust.

The Bolero must need atleast 10 litres of that oil, and am pretty sure 5000 bucks for just oil isn't that much VFM.

I was told synthetic oil can be used on petrol/diesel engines provided the grade is correct.

Should you not be using specialist diesel engine oil. The Castrol GTD Magnatec diesel stuff I use is very different in colour etc to any synthetic oil I have seen. I always thought there was differences in forumlation etc.

As they say you learn somthing new every day.

hello..
nitrous. i have a safari and ive just put mobil1 5w50 synthetic engine oil in it. correct me if i'm wrong but i calculated the value for money factor, my car uses approx. 8ltrs of engine oil, i usually get the oil changed at every 4000kms (under normal circumstances) which costs me 1000rs(approx) with labour everytime. the synthetic engine oil works till about 24000 kms(approx), if i get normal engine oil 6 times in 24000 kms it comes out to be 6000rs now add oil filter everytime about 300rs *6=1800rs total cost 7800. with synthetic engine oil 6000 rs for the oil 200 rs for the labour and 300 rs for oil filter = 6500. saving with synthetic (normal)7800-(synthetic)6500 = 1300rs.. + engine runs smoother than usual.

viper. i got my cars engine oil changed to sythetic just about 3-4 days back and it works fine i guess it is the same for both petrol and diesel ones. i know for sure about 5w40 (used in petrol esteem) and 5w50 (used in diesel safari).

go for the alloys. I got a 2002 model bolero. I am currently using the League 17" alloys. One draw back is when it rains, the side of ur bolero would be a big mess and u can't ride with the windows open. but what the heck its an Off-roader. Also u will have to increase the stud of the steppine by increase the length of the screw by welding to accomodate the tyre with alloys.
