Forget pubs, let's go drag racing dude!

Just saw this in the Economic times..http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...ow/1360868.cms but it really feels funny saying "Hormazd Sorabjee, one of the pioneers of the drag culture in India".. Read on though.

Its not really far fetched. Sorabjee who heads Autocar India really organized the first drag race in Mumbai and then Bangalore. The sport has really taken off ever since.

thats right.
the jakkur airstrip is just about right for the drag races...crowd control seems to be the only major worry as we saw.

Yeah, 300 dedicated racers?! We have some 20 or 30, and one is currently languishing in Australia...

Seriously, all these years in Bangalore, never seen any thing like this...3000 people on MG road late at night...doesn't happen anymore...it's now urban legend...

That's not true. The drag races were held in bangalore from way back as 1988.It was organised by the karnataka motorsports club(KMSC).It was then a drag and hill climb alternately for 8 times a year. This continued to happen till 1990.Then a gap of two years. Then IASC club 1992 happened, they organised the drags till 1998/99.They finished of with the best drag race organised in india.
It was called Pepsi PowerDrag1999.Organised by IASC,event mangement by DNA. 10,000 First price for every class. Fantastic event.Even the speedrun 2003/05 in bangalore was not as good as that was.

never seen 3000 people on mg road during the drags... other than the racers and a couple of friends and the usual chai wallas.. there is no body... and if there are 3000 people there the cops are just gonna stand around right??? and let the races take place.
