" Yes officer. I saw the entire accident.
I know there are no cattle in this area and it was a low speed crash with little damage done to the motorcycle but the rider died after he was gored in a very sensitive place.

It gives new meaning to being aware of horns while you drive in India." rl:

Congratulations Avi ! Both for the awesome bull and lightening fast delivery.

I don't know if they asked you for any premium on the bike (above ex-showroom price) because of heavy bookings, but these days people are becoming so bold that they are putting up online ads for black marketing.

Look at this ad for example:
NEW ROYAL ENFIELD FOR SALE WITHOUT BOOKING - Hyderabad - Motorcycles - Scooters

To confirm I called them up and found that they are demanding as much as INR 35000 for on spot deliveries ( diverted from cancelled bookings).

Captured screenshot of the same, in case, the goon takes off the ad:

Thanks Deetee. I havent paid a single dime more than what was the OTR price as I booked and took delivery from an authorized RE dealership in Hyderabad ( Kay Jee Engineering)

What you outlined brings a recall to mind. When I was going to make my 2nd advance payment to RE dealer of Rs.25,000 and while enroute to dealership, I received a call from some guy from Ramkote ( 2-wheeler second hand market) and he mentioned he got my number from "Justdial"

I called Justdial on Dec 19th morning to source telephone numbers of both RE dealers in Hyd ( Erragada and Ranigunj) so his claim was accurate.

Then he proceeded to tell me there is one Classic Chrome 500cc and he mentioned it was cancelled by someone so asked me if i was interested for delivery as its immediately available. I casually asked him whats the price and he quoted Rs.170,000 which is roughly 5K more.

I politely told him that I am getting same bike from dealership at the original OTR price and hung up and never thought back on that incident till you highlighted this issue in your post.

Ramkote market is a shady place. you can sell your bike in < 5 mins if your willing to take a beating on market price. I am told even stolen bikes are dealt in this market and sheer amount of bikes on display is mind-boggling

Wow !! you are truly one lucky guy Avi! Well , fortune favours the brave. I never bothered to ask the dealer about such lucky opportunities. May be its time I should be paying regular visits to the dealership( nearest is Erragadda brand showroom.)
I thought 10 months is no big time waiting for the bull, but am wrong :Frustrati.
Each and every passing day is longer . Each and every passing bull makes you drool.

rightly said, each day i hope i get a call from the dealership, but not till now, and now when my Thunderbird is sold off, it is becoming even more difficult to wait for my DS500 :Frustrati

Whoa! I never knew owning a BULL was so much revered:thumbs up

I always liked, respected and admired the BULL from a distance in the past and also secretly wished that I should own one some day. But, my passion for sportsbike was a bit more overwhelming than the BULL until the fateful day of Dec 19th which changed my entire thought process equation.

After riding a BULL, I can fathom your feelings and totally agree with you guys that this feeling is irreplaceable and wish you both quick delivery of your respective machines.

500kms/1 Month Update

Yesterday was exactly a month since MM was delivered and being Republic Day some of the newbie BULL riders made an impromptu plan of meeting at Minerva Coffee Shop for a lovely breakfast which was a treat by another newbie bull (Desert Storm) owner Raju Datla (who is in process of joining TBHP).

After that sumptious breakfast we 4 BULL riders embarked on a lovely ride till Gandipet which is roughly 30kms away from city and famous for the lake and beautiful surroundings.

For the first time, I took MM upto a speed of 80kmph and there was no inklings of any vibrations and it was performing magnificiently.

Not sure if its just my whim but, the gears seem to get smoother on usage

Would like to add a few words about the handling. It's a pleasure to take wide sweeping turns on the C-500 as it sticks to road and there is no apprehension of rear sliding out or anything. Maybe because of the slightly wider tyres on Chrome and DS compared to regular C-500 !!!

However, I was facing a small issue with the bike. When in traffic, when I give full slack to throttle, engine dies down and I need to hastily move to neutral to electric-start it again. Must be due to improper tuning? Correct?

Unlike say a Pulsar, another downside is the bike cannot be started holding the clutch in any gear and thumbing the start-button. You need to shift to NEUTRAL to start the bike:Frustrati

At Gandipet, when we stopped for a quick photoshoot and were pleasantly surprised to be mobbed by a big group of +2 college students who were there on a picnic and everyone wanted to click a picture sitting on a BULL

We were more than happy to oblige them and post that we rode back to city under the envious glances of fellow road users who kept turning back and checking us out.

We took a slight detour and rode back via. the service road on ORR where we stopped for another quick photoshoot before riding back via. Gachibowli to Lumbini Park were as it happens each year during Republic Day, the vintage car and bike rally was in progress. We spent an hour checking out the beauties ( Royal Enfields, Triumphs, Nortons and some RD-350's stole the show)

Jan 26th will be remembered not just because it was our republic day but, also for the eventful and enjoyable 80kms BULL RIDE:thumbs up

P.S: Pictures of this ride will come up shortly !!!

Avi Bhai, I was able to start my bike by holding the clutch. Moreover, if you remember, Imran was surprised during our Hadippa Lunch Meet as he was could start the bike in gear. I hope Imran could throw in a couple of his inputs.

traveloholic is right. Your motorcycles electric starter should work if the clutch lever is pulled in.
If it doesn't either the small electrical switch just below the clutch lever is out of adjustment or it is faulty.
In either case your dealer should fix it for you.

There are several switches that will prevent the motorcycle from starting.

1) For motorcycles with a side stand, if the side stand is not fully retracted the computer will not boot and the electric starter will not work.
If the side stand has been used and then gently returned to the retracted position, the switch will occasionally not return to the OK position. In this case I've found that lowering the side stand again and then knocking it back into the retracted position with a good Whap! will cause the switch to operate correctly so that the motorcycle will start.

This switch has been known to cause intermittent mis-firing or pausing of the engine if the motorcycle is being ridden on very rough roads.
What is happening in this case is the side stand is bouncing from the fully retracted position to a slightly "down" position and then back to the fully retracted position.
Disconnecting the switch by unplugging the wiring harness above the switch will keep the switch from disabling the motorcycle but doing this is somewhat dangerous because the rider can start to ride while the side stand is still down.
Riding this way can cause the motorcycle to throw the rider (and passenger) to the ground if the stand hits a large object.
An example of this is when suddenly riding into a large pot-hole in the pavement or when riding off of a curb into a street.

2) If the motorcycle is not in neutral with the green neutral indicator light "on", the power to the ignition and the electrical starter will be turned off by the computer.
Placing the gears into neutral so that the green light comes on, will allow the power to the ignition and the starter motor to be on.

As I mentioned, if the green light is off, retracting the clutch lever fully will by-pass this safety switch and allow the motorcycle to start. This situation often happens at a stop light.

Bypassing the clutch switch or the neutral indicator is very dangerous so I wouldn't tell anyone how to do it even if I knew the answer. :)

3) There is a "roll over switch" which is intended to automatically shut off the engine if the bike falls down with the engine running.
This switch will prevent the motorcycle from starting or running unless some special things are first done.
a) Put the bike up on the center stand.
b) Turn the key off and push in the red "stop" switch on the right hand grip to the off or "kill" position.
c) Wait a few seconds and then turn the key on. Then, with the key still on, change the "stop" switch to the "run" position.
This should reset the "roll over switch" and allow the computer to reboot.
You can then start the engine.

4) The "stop switch" (sometimes called the "kill switch") on the right hand grip will of course shut off the engine if it is pushed to that position.
What often happens if your motorcycle is parked is some dunderhead will be looking at your motorcycle and push the switch to the off position. :-(
Of course, when you return you fully expect the motorcycle to start but nothing comes on. No lights, no computer boot, nothing!
The first thing to check when this happens is that "stop switch". Make sure it is ON.

I don't know how your RE is idling but when mine was new it seemed to idle very fast. The computer seemed to be searching for the right speed and often it would slow down and then keep on slowing down until the engine quit. This usually happened at a stop light when a mass of cars were right behind me.

First I must say, DO NOT MESS WITH THE SWITCH OR SCREWS FOR THE SWITCH ON THE SIDE OR TOP OF THE INJECTOR BODY. Those control the computers throttle sensing switch and they must NEVER be adjusted without some special equipment. They also have nothing to do with the idle speed of the engine.

Although it is counter-intuitive, I found that by reducing the idle speed slightly, the computer seemed to be happier and the motorcycle would seldom die at a light.

The idle speed adjustment screw is a very large brass screw that is down in a deep hole on top of the injector body.
This screw controls the amount of air that can pass into the engine when the engine is idling so turning it "in" (clockwise) will slow the engine down. Turning it "out" (counterclockwise) will speed the engine up.

On my bike, I found that by turning the large brass headed screw clockwise about 1/8 of a full turn reduced the engine idle speed slightly and, more importantly stopped the computer from "hunting around" for the right fuel setting.

Yes, my bike still occasionally starts to die at a stop light but a slight twist of the wrist on the throttle solves the problem.

Thanks for the confirmation that it works with clutch depressed fully. Perhaps, due to my panicky situation as my bike died in middle of traffic with uncouth people honking at my predicament couldnt figure out whats happening.

Will try it out soon and re-confirm back here

This is a new one for me. Never knew due to side stand not completely retracted the engine wont start. Is this meant only for EFI engines?

Thanks, I am aware about this safety feature built into the engine and sensor in the event of bike falling down.

I totally know what you mean. It has happened several times to my other 150cc bike. I thumb the starter and kick feverishly and bike wont start and when i glance towards the engine button, some clown had switched off while leaning or checking out the bike.:D

When I got the bike, I too felt the idling was pretty high. But, it eventually settled down to a nice thump on its own.

I am not a DIY specialist and dont intend to learn the mechanics of the bike now. As the dealership and their workshop is < 5kms from home, I'd rather they take a look at any issue however miniscule it may be.

Guys, sorry to bring a sober note in this thread, but I could not help myself.
I see only half helmets in all these photos. Please get yourself full face helmets instead. Take this from a guy who was forced (thank god) by his mother from the age of 17 to wear full face helmets, starting from a piddly Bajaj M-80 ! Since then ( 1989) I must have had upwards of 15 spills, some really scary too. So I can call myself an experienced end user of helmets.

I know that half helmets look cooler on Enfields. But really, when you fall on your chins, you will miss the protection offered by the full helmets.

My $0.02 for you.....

Congrats mobike008 on your MM. I also have the exact same model and it would be great if we could catch up sometime.

Appreciate the concern. Touchwood, I am riding a bike from more than 20+ years and have never fell down even once.

Plan to get a full face helmet for long rides. Thanks again !

Sure. Some of us Hyderabad Bullet Riders ride a lot of times. Do join up

There is a meet on Feb 5th. Join up if you can. Details here :-

Avi bhai, just read the post above.
The electric start works even if the bikes is in gear and clutch is pressed.
So if you stall on road and traffic builds up, just press the clutch and push the electric start button and you are good to go, provided the battery's not gone bad :D.
The only thing you might have to worry about the gear in which the bike has stalled. So you might just have to downshift quickly, if stalled in higher gears!!

Thanks mobike008, I did post on the same thread and am interested to join you all with my bullet.
