I think the Thunderbird 500 is the best cruiser you can buy now, this side of the HDs and Triumphs.
I've always wondered why RE enthusiasts keep shunning the TB, it has great touring potential as far as ergonomics go. Either ways with a much needed projector lamp, the 500cc mill & a rear disc brake this is quiet a reckoner!

Re: Royal Enfield @ Auto Expo 2012

Were there any oil leaks / puddles in and around the RE display area ???

Their bikes have always been drool worthy looks wise. I thought things would improve with the Classic series. No dice.

No expectations on improved quality with this launch from me at least.

Seems like the Café Racer might actually make it to production!

I tweeted to the offical Royal Enfield account inquiring about the production of the Café Racer and received this reply:

Quote:
yes the motorcycle is definitely slated for production!

Also asked about when it would happen. Yet to receive a reply

Re: Royal Enfield @ Auto Expo 2012

Very nice pics. But do we know why would they want to invest in rear disc brakes. it can cause variable skid, especially on the terrains these machines are drive, isnt it?
Nonetheless, a good bike for those who are into collections.

Re: Royal Enfield @ Auto Expo 2012

Is this Cafe Racer exported to UK?I remember they used to sell something like this in UK.If introduce it here it shall be i guess a niche model, and priced higher than all other RE models. It looks so heart-achingly good, and mechanical bits are top notch too!

Whats the story behind the continental GT sign?

I am not sure how this could work - the quoting I meant. But the last picture of a helmet being hung from a mirror. Is that device some sort of a communication thing? If it is, is it available for sale here? Cost? Does it allow you to communicate with a helmetted pillon rider? Its a sore necessity on long rides.

It is a device to answer your calls when riding.
I have seen a few hardcore bikers use it a while back.
You can also connect to 3 riders like an intercom.

I am sorry, i do not have any info if RE is bringing it on sale to its dealer network.

But you can get one of those in the market for sure. Link to a similar product

Just when I thought I had decided on the desert storm, Enfield comes out with the cafe racer. I have never been more confused in my life.

Re: Royal Enfield @ Auto Expo 2012

The Matt black Thunderbird 500 and Café Racer both looked stunning. Hope they give a Super bike engine in Cafe Racer and make it first super bike of India in affordable range.

The Cafe Racer looked really good. And what impressed me was that it had Ohlins shock. WOW!!

Re: Royal Enfield @ Auto Expo 2012

I am particularly interested in TB500. The matt black TB500 just made me realize that I still am a biker at heart. My bike has been lying around for almost two years without being attended to. But this bike will definitely get me back on 2 wheels. I have sent an email to the RE customer care asking when this would be on sale and at what price. But it has been 2 days and no reply. :(

Re: Royal Enfield @ Auto Expo 2012

Is the bike pictured below available for purchase? I took the picture from one of the original posts.

I have not owned an RE 350 in about 10 years now but this one seems to be the old one without the disk brakes in the front. But it does not have the cast iron engine and seems to have the newer engine and brake arrangement.Or are my eyes playing games on my head and this is RE 500 not available in India.

Can someone please shed some light? TIA.

Re: Royal Enfield @ Auto Expo 2012

Jatt Boy, the LHS toolbox clearly says "350." It is the replacement of the old CI std 350 with the new 350 UCE unit. In an effort to streamline things, RE has finally moved all models to the UCE so no different engines for different models anymore. But if you ask me, they got things right with the LBs in terms of best of both worlds. The UCE just is not the same. I have owned all three 500s - standard, LB, and Classic.
