re: The All New Bajaj Pulsar 200NS Unveiled! Update: Rs 84,096- ex showroom Pune

Bajaj Should have given this EFI as well.
Whats with the spark plugs though.? 3 spark plugs.?
Great looking bike. Wonder if its the same motor that powers the Duke 200?

re: The All New Bajaj Pulsar 200NS Unveiled! Update: Rs 84,096- ex showroom Pune

The P200ns and the Duke 200 engines have the same bore and sroke, so I guess they are literally the same engines except for different heads and fuel intakes.
  • The Duke 200 has a dohc 4 valve (favourable for free revving) set up with fuel injection
  • 200ns has a sohc 4 valve head and a carb, also 3 spark plugs.
Despite this both engines have very similar peak power, although I feel the Dukes engine is restricted keeping fuel efficiency and long term reliability in mind. The Pulsar engine must be having better grunt at lower revs while the Duke must be a high revving hooligan!! I also expect the Pulsar to be more fuel efficient.

re: The All New Bajaj Pulsar 200NS Unveiled! Update: Rs 84,096- ex showroom Pune

Fuel injection will come soon enough I think. But great job from Bajaj, was quite skeptical about the complete overhaul of the Pulsar series when it was announced earlier, but they pulled it off magnificently.
I too wonder why the bike needs 3 spark plugs. And about competition, the 220F will definitely be out of Showrooms by March end I think. That'll prevent cannibalism within the Pulsar camp. The ZMR lost it's ground to the R15 and now to the KTM I'm sure. It was overpriced and I have no idea if Hero Honda even believed it'd be a success.
Coming back to the NS, looks promising, exhaust idea is a brilliant one. Don't see how it'll affect the pillion though, the exhaust is after all pointing horizontally and the rear foot pegs are placed well above that.
Kudos to Bajaj for giving the Pulsar brand the Shot In The Arm it deserves!

Looks like the collaboration between Bajaj and KTM will be similar to the one Hero and Honda shared earlier from the looks of it.

Great effort by Bajaj! I'm sure will be rewarded by the sales nos.
Hero motors - time to start on a new ZMR from a clean slate, i know you missed your chances but its never too late.

Absolutely amazing job done on the Headlamp by Bajaj. It just approaches the mean yet practical balance hard to achieve !

The mono suspension looks killer and might just be the biggest USP of the bike (at least for me)

The fuel tank though includes aggressive lines looks kind of Hunk-ish to me(?)

Overall a much need edge comes to the Pulsar family

It is 58kmpl if you can drive at a steady 55kmph. Remember no braking or acceleration is allowed

Looks neat, but don't think its exciting enough.. Headlight looks very distinctive, but the front forks looks pretty thin, compared to the overall bulk of the bike. also, the rear lights do not gel with the overall design... Rahul Bajaj and his folks at Bajaj Auto truly deserve a pat at the back for all the efforts taken in bringing out this new model!! This is going to be another sure shot success story from Bajaj!!

What sort of monoshock has it got at the back? Is it link type like the Yamaha? Or the bare basic barebones Honda Unicorn like?

Bybre = ByBrembo, as per Definition, these kits are exclusively developed for sub 600CC bikes for the BRIC Market (Brazil, Russia, India and China).

Hope it has the same stopping quality as its Italian Brethrens.
Bring it on Bajaj!

Maybe it's just me , but doesn't this tank layout look too close for comfort under hard braking (like the Gen-1 pulsars)?

re: The All New Bajaj Pulsar 200NS Unveiled! Update: Rs 84,096- ex showroom Pune

Thanks parry for a review of the next generation Pulsar-the most popular 150 cc plus Indian bike of the new millennium.
The design appears to be well executed. The meter console could have been better and more futuristically designed.
Liquid cooled engine and the monoshox on the rear are excellent changes.
The rear and front disc brakes look nice and contemporary.
The EFI option should have been made available from day 1. Its much like the petrol i 10 and Nano launches, with buyers waiting and waiting for the diesel variant. Both said they would soon launch diesels during the petrol launch.
Bajaj should not falter in introducing the EFI version, which can economize on the fuel consumption to get something near the claimed figures.
The complete rear mudguard is also as you say, likely to be made available with the final version.Thats a must for our roads. But the Pulsar plastic quality is too bad. The present Pulsar rear mudguards and plastics change colour from dark to light whitish grey within a year. Moreover, the rear mudguards rattle while on the move. The ones following a Pulsar will notice the rattle, while the driver or his pillion can see the same rattle in other Pulsars. The older Pulsars were free from the "rear mudguard rattle" syndrome.
And the triple spark on a single cylinder ! It must be for a cleaner and more optimum fuel combustion. After all, I am reminded of the three cylinders and three spark plugs that my Maruti 800 has!
And about the KTM inspired exhaust of this new one - I could also find an inspiration from the old Vespa 150, Bajaj Super and Chetak here.

Great effort.
Wish we had known of the triple spark earlier. Then Mr. Pierer could have been asked what he thought of it!

Finally different looking Pulser and a great looking one
So what do they call this 3 spark plug technology? DTSi -2?

As far as engine is concerned, to me it looks like its Bajaj's version of KTM's 200cc engine which is doing its duty on Duke.

We can safely assume that now Bajaj's R&D is working on a 4 spark plug technology

Great Report.

With this bike, i feel Bajaj will be able to claw back some of the market share it lost to the Yamaha R15.

Will the old pulsar be sold alongside this model ?
Also, will the new model get smaller engines ? (Read, 125, 150 and 180cc)

The pulsars always had ab approximate market share of 50% in the sports bike segment. (150-250cc)
The older Pulsars i.e. the 180 and 220 will continue to be on sale.

No details as to what engine specs can be expected in the future, but Mr. Rajiv Bajaj did mention that bigger displacement Pulsars with the triple spark technology for India are surely in stores for India
