I've owned 4 bikes till date, all black. But this black with red decals looks horrible, at least to me.

Hope it has different decals, and not red when it comes to India.
Also, the racing blue is not really blue, it's too much of white.

But look at those specs

Re: Yamaha @ Auto Expo 2014

Here(in the link below) it says the Indonesian price has been set at around 53 Million Rupiah == 2.7L INR. Now as far as I know there's a free trade pact between india and indonesia(correct me if am wrong here?). Hence even if it comes via CKD route the ex-showroom should be in the ball-park range of 3L i.e. a few grands below the Ninja 300.

Inazuma(although a twin) was never supposed compete with Ninja but this is gonna be an interesting clash-of-titans. Performance-wise am expecting both the bikes to be pretty close as power-to-weight-ratio looks similar. Excellent for us enthusiasts. Bring it on Yamaha

P.S : Am not sure how trustworthy the link is but here it is.

Re: Yamaha @ Auto Expo 2014

Power figure is much closer to Ninja 300 (39bhp v 35.5bhp) but Ninja is having a massive torque advantage here (27Nm vs 22.1Nm). But it now looks like R25 will cost atleast a lakh cheaper than N300, making it good value for money. CBR250 needs a massive makeover, 29bhp single wont cut it for Honda although the price is much cheaper, but RC200 will post a real threat for CBR.

Re: Yamaha @ Auto Expo 2014

But is it confirmed that the R25 will follow a CKD route? If not, then price could be easily tucked well under 2.5 Lakhs or lower!

Yamaha R25 launched in Indonesia at Rs. 2.7 Lakh!

Yamaha has unveiled their long awaited YZF-R25 in Indonesia today. It will be released in the Indonesian market by July 2014. The bike is powered by a brand new two-cylinder four-stroke 250cc liquid-cooled engine. This engine produces 36PS@12000rpm and 22.6Nm of torque at 10,000rpm. It runs a six-speed gearbox. The R25 weighs in at 166kg, which isn’t too heavy but not featherlight either. The bike will be be priced at around 53 million Indonesian Rupiah (approx: Rs. 2.7-2.8 lakh).

The bike comes with an all new high-compression (11.6:1) engine which uses Yamaha’s unique DiASil (Die casting Aluminum-Silicon) cylinders for excellent heat dissipation and lighter weight. This is also, the first time Yamaha has implemented this technology in a two-cylinder engined motorcycle. The bike uses a steel frame and has a front suspension with 41mm inner tubes; making it one of the largest in its class (only the RC 390 with its 43mm inner tube is larger). The rear monocross suspension contributes to mass centralisation. The bike also gets a mid-ship end can which helps keep its weight distribution at a perfect 50:50.

The R25 borrows some design cues from its bigger R1 and R6 siblings such as the reverse-slant twin headlights and the pilot light in between provide for a sharper look. An air duct in-between the lamps is reminiscent of the M1 MotoGP race bike and it has shift indicator identical to that which is found in the YZF-R1.

Yamaha has used the concept ‘superbike you can ride every day’ while designing the bike. They claim that the bike is very comfortable to ride on a daily basis. Like the current R15 it should offer comfy but involving ergonomics. In Indonesia, the R25 is available in three colors; Racing Blue, Black Predator, and Diablo Red. Yamaha is targeting 12,000 sales in the first full year of sales in Indonesia alone.

The Yamaha YZF-R25 will meet stiff competition from the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the KTM RC 390. The Ninja 300 produces 39PS but also weighs six kilos more. Nevertheless, it ups the R25 with a better power-to-weight ratio of 226PS/tonne as compared to the Yamaha’s 216PS/tonne. The RC 390 on the other hand, produces more power and weighs less than both (43PS and 154kg). It has a power-to-weight ratio of 279PS/tonne. While the RC is a single-cylinder, it is expected to undercut both its rivals when it comes to price.

I don't think it'll be priced anything close to the CBR250R (if that is what you are referring to).

The R25 being a twin cylinder is bound to cost a tad more.

That being said, I think a single cylinder like the KTMs would've helped Yamaha a lot more than this twin will. The cost differential is close to a lakh between the 390 and the R25 after all. And when the RC390 comes along, it looks like it will be priced below the R25 as will.

Either way, looks like a very very rev happy motor. Max power and torque coming in at 12,000 and 10,000 RPM respectively. I also think the Indian version will come with the mandatory Saree Guard and the tyre hugger à la the R15?

True. Although the Yamaha R25 sounds like a very capable bike, RC390 will offer much more value for the money paid. But any idea if the Yamaha would be built in india or assembled? This will decide its fate.

However, that said - it would be interesting to see the Yamaha fight it out with the Kawasaki. 50-50 perfect weight distribution, 36PS, Twin-cylinder, properly rev-happy engine. Looks like they are all set to take on the Kawasaki.

re: Yamaha R25 launched in Indonesia. EDIT: Launch imminent in India!

So finally it's launched.

It's about time Yamaha introduced a bike in this 250-300cc segment. Honda did so a couple of years back with the CBR 250R and I guess Yamaha was just sitting on the fence, analyzing consumer behavior, deciding if it was the right time and if India had a market for these bikes. Suzuki, time you did your bit too.

Back to the bike, I've never really liked the front headlight design of the current gen R15's. No offense to anyone but IMHO, the current gen headlights looked way too big and out of place for the bike.

This one though looks great. The tech specs are interesting and if priced right, this should do very well here.

On paper, the figures look very promising and the R25 may probably give it's rivals - the Ninja 300 and the upcoming RC390 sleepless nights.

P.S. I don't mean to nitpick but looking at the front wheel in the cornering pic (opening post), it looks like the pic was taken just before a low-side crash.

Rumour suggests, that the 250cc is only for Indonesia.
We could get a 300cc motorcycle.

Praying that it's a twin.

LOL the Yam - Ninja wars begin. Even before the bike hits our shores.

I like!

Aditya, now go and try getting a similar shot on your Ninja and post it for us here to compare lean angles.

Aditya,
Confident this bike will be one howler on the tracks. Coming from the stables of Yamaha who are known for their handling & excellent mid-range prowess, they will take the fight to Ninja 300.

Comparing against the KTM 390 is not necessary considering that it is a single cylinder. But knowing the market's mentality it all boils down to Rupee Game.
Inevitably people will compare it against the KTM 390 & Honda CBR 250.

I dont think so. Its just speculated considering the fact that their current assembly line in India doesnt have twin-production-setup. A whole new setup will take a lot of time. This anyways wont be a product which initially they would want to return high numbers as our market still has a long way to go before the multi-cylindered bikes make significant inroads like in the west(as learner's bike).

And if you look at it this way, the direct competition is only Ninja300 which is again a CKD so I dont see any reason why YAMAHA would hurry into setting up a new production line. Moreover india-indonesia have free trade treaty so that wont even push the costs significantly higher than Indonesia.

Just my thought.

Look at it this way. The Ninja owners, I don't think ever gave a second thought to any of the current 250cc/above singles lot(read CBR250/KTM). Simple reason being twin and single are totally different sort of engines and folks would choose as per their requirement.

I don't think Yamaha anyways would target this bike generating numbers for them.

About the performance, well redline starts at 13k and peak power is 12k. Watch out for the screams. Already a couple of videos are floating over net on the exhaust note at high revs and it does sound sweet. Sorry, at office so cant post the video links.

P.S : We are having similar discussion here as well : http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...ml#post3438182

@Mods : Can we please merge these two threads?
