Re: Yamaha RX100 restoration - From bits & pieces

One more lesson learned

The so called NOS (New Old Stock) stuff are better to be avoided for certain parts. This time I got couple of 2011 & 2013 packed Fuel Filters to replace the leaking filter (from Hero Honda) in this bike. Guess what, both the new filters started leaking, culprit being the O-ring at drain screw in one of the filter and the chamber sealing itself on the other.

For time being running without filter (for past 20km)

Re: Yamaha RX100 restoration - From bits & pieces

Some quick updates:

- Covered 1.25k km after restoration
- Still running with additional 2% premix along with autolube
- Handle grips changed
- Bike shipped to hometown last night and it reached safe

New carb fixed and bike runs far better now.

Opened the chain guard to replace the rear sprockets, and found 'this' No clue what they are, some look like wooden sticks, and rest is some plastic or fiber.

39T RX100 sprocket is out

Fixed 38T from RX135 5 speed for better top end.

Is there any improvement in FE after new carburetor fitment? Should give at-least 10 more than 41.6 kmpl

10kmpl is a huuuuge improvement to expect from RX.
Though I was earlier using the carb from RX135, jets were of RX100 spec. I'm yet to check the FE after swapping the carburetor and I don't expect anything over a couple of kmpl improvement.

Hello Mr.Boss, Wow would be an understatement. Absolutely like this awesome 'CHERRY'. The final product says all about your every single effort gone in this project. Would love to come over to meet you (if you are in Chennai) for a quick chat on getting your thoughts for me to get started on a similar restoration project.

Enjoy your ride and stay safe!

Re: Yamaha RX100 restoration - From bits & pieces

What happens when the bike is left idle for months together?

Didn't start after several kicks, started checking right from the fuel tap, spark plug and finally found this. Thanks to my over enthusiastic mechanic who denied installing the aftermarket filter and found a decade old (or even older) NOS filter.

Spoiled the carburetor

Cleaned them with petrol (couldn't get hold of other cleaning agents)

Consumed a little less than 2 hours

Got life on 2nd kick and after a short drive lubricated the chain. It started marking it's territory

Re: Yamaha RX100 restoration - From bits & pieces

The only reason I can think of for you sticking to a decade old filter is due to lack of spare availability, in which case I would recommend you reach out to ArrowHead filters, they are the OEM manufacturer of air/oil filters for a few agricultural brands if I'm not mistaken.

My point of contact is Mr. Angad(+919911444555)

He is an enthusiast and has helped make custom filters for myself and a few other enthusiast friends, I still get OEM replacement filters from him for both my Zen's(G10 and F10), the pricing is similar to the stock filter and the performance is marginally better as I recall a fellow enthusiast from Gearheads telling me a while ago that going for a stock replacement ArrowHead filter on his Alto(800cc) helped clear a long standing initial pickup issue he'd been facing.

The usual disclaimer here being that other than being a customer from around 2011/2012, I have no other connection with the company.

Cheers.

Thanks ashwin for the pointer, I will make use of it.

Yamaha stopped producing (or selling) this Black-Yellow filter for a long time and many aftermarket filters are available in the market. The fancy tag NOS (New Old Stock) is spoiling many people here. People don't understand the shelf life of certain parts. Recently I came across an ad in social media for late 80's packed oil seal kit for RD350 with a premium price tag
