re: Avantura Choppers launches Rudra and Pravega 2000cc bikes

20 big ones for chopper in India !!! For whatever %age of market share they wish to have with them sooner or later; survival would be difficult with no other product in the horizon.

They will have to do some soul searching to understand the market, generate leads and convert them into business. They cannot hold staff at bench and more so this is a segment driven by customization - they cannot even keep the standard product ready for sale !!!

Looks difficult, yet its good that something similar to the US is getting experimented here in India !

re: Avantura Choppers launches Rudra and Pravega 2000cc bikes

This bit of news about an unknown brand launching high end choppers in India just sounds unbelievable. It just feels all wrong.
  • Choppers are possibly the worst kind of motorcycles to launch in India.
  • Their website is very light on detail. Not much information on the bikes or any clarity on the launch dates.
  • The guys who have set up the company are almost completely unknown, with no visible experience of having done this. Being enthusiasts is hardly the criteria to accomplish such a complex and specialised task.
  • The chief design engineer set up Big Bear Motorcycles which went under after the 2008 financial crisis and changing tastes of consumers. Consumers are shifting to lighter, nimbler and cheaper motorcycles.
What surprises me is the sheer coverage that they have got. Probably a reflection of a byte happy media that is not interested in getting into detail.

We all know how the DC Avanti project went.I applaud the enthusiasm but this is not going to happen. Happy to be proven wrong of course

On a motorcycle so obscenely priced, there isn't even ABS. I wonder why manufacturers don't want to give priority to safety. That apart, addition of ABS won't actually make me even remotely interested in this.

And at 20 lakhs, they don't exactly have any brand pull either.
Bike in a box, DIY kits are very common, and are super easy to assemble in a private garage.

The regulation requirements are much less compared to a mass produced bike. These are "Home made, specially constructed, or kit bikes". They are for private use, and cannot be resold. One can build a kit bike in a day, get a smog check, brake and light adjustment certificate - and you are all set with one of a kind bike. (sort of )

Lots of Choppers are basically an artist's canvas. They have all sorts of fancy paint finishes, and all sorts of custom accessories that you see on reality bike shows.

Re: Avantura Choppers launches Rudra and Pravega 2000cc bikes

Which one is the rudra and which is the pravaga? Whichever is the one with the gears theme looks horrible IMO. The alloys with the gears on them look simply childish. Choppers can be made to look elegant and worth a million bucks, both of these look neither. All the best to Avantura for finding customers for these motorcycles at 20+Lacs.

I dont think the specs matter either, coz anyone who cares about specs will get a much more reasonably priced liter bike. At this price point only the design and the looks matter and they need to work on that big time.

But being customs i feel the customer will have an option to choose design, paint and theme. I hope they better give this option and make it proper customs. If they are selling it as is, the gear paint job is pretty much sad.

Wasn't Vardenchi doing something similar, last I had read they were trying to source a twin from china, whatever happened to that.

I liked their designs a lot, though they worked on bullets only.

At 20L + I am sure there are better options available for exclusivity like the triumph rocket. What technical support can one expect to get for these ?

PS- I checked the Vardenchi site and it is down with the message Account Suspended, I guess they have shut shop.

We have Regal Raptor, another chopper segment manufacturer, literally collecting dust and cobwebs in their showroom in posh Jubilee Hills area in Hyderabad.

Look like wannabe Orange County Choppers. And pushrod engines for 20+ lakhs is bit too much, even in India.

Ah, is it? I suppose Indian riding conditions are one thing, but have they designed to suit Indian parking conditions? Given how many 2 wheeler parkings can barely fit a Bullet or in some cases, even a Scooty inside the painted slots, these are going to be parked only at malls occupying 2 slots, or by large food joints by the highways with dedicate parking.

I can foresee a few making it in collectors' garages, like MS Dhoni's.

IIRC back in 2014 they showcased a chopper using a MotoMorini Engine. It was supposed to be some kind of collabration where Vardenchi will use their engine for custom designs and Vardenchi's sales channel would also sell Moto Morini bikes.

As of now Vardenchi is focusing on relatively inexpensive DIY kits. It has been really long since they showcased any full blown custom design.

Powering the bikes are humongous, fuel-injected, 2,000cc V-twins. Called the V124 (in reference to its 124 cubic inch capacity), they are manufactured by USA-based S&S Cycle. The Pravega has a price tag of Rs 21.4 lakh, while the Rudra will cost you Rs 23.9 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Re: Avantura Choppers launches Rudra and Pravega 2000cc bikes

With negligible brand equity and availability of reasonable litre+ engine bikes in India; it is difficult to see people picking up 25 Lac (on road) investment options in large numbers.

Even people with that kind of cash at hand have several cross-country / cruiser options from bigger names (Indian et. al).

It will be an uphill task for them.
