re: KTM 390 Adventure India launch confirmed. Edit: Launched at 2.99 lakh.

I wonder what changes have been made to it over the standard platform. I'm pretty sure it would not have the rigid fixed rear sub-frame as it won't be focused on track riding rather trails. If so, how different if at all, will the rear sub-frame be from the new Duke's? I'm also even more curious to know what forks and shocks they use. T

That said, I wonder when KTM will bring a proper 390 supermoto and maybe an RC790 for me to upgrade to

re: KTM 390 Adventure India launch confirmed. Edit: Launched at 2.99 lakh.

Most important criterion should be bringing a motorcycle which will be gremlin free. They should ensure a proper testing phase and ensure no issues should plague it like the current D390 (headlight, meter console etc).

A lot of people would not mind paying extra for a trouble free ownership (at least no issues within the first year or so). What is the point of only being cost conscious if you have to take a new bike to the service station time and again soon after delivery.

Cheers

Two things are a must - stand-up pegs, and ridiculous frame, so that you don't feel at all bad about dropping it.

I really hope that they price it 20% higher than the RC, to weed out the 15 yr. old yuppies from the customer base. That's the one reason I haven't picked up a Duke yet.

I don't understand this reasoning.
Why should you care about what wannabes/yuppies buy as long as the bike is good?
I've only seen these sentiments echoed about KTM bikes though you see similar (or higher) number of "non-bikers" on Bullets.
Why not enjoy the fact that more number of bikes sold translate into more servicing centers/aftermarket parts/etc.?
It's not like the Adv390 is supposed to be an exotic like a Multistrada.
So why wish to pay more for what will be a mainstream adv bike?

Finally! This might just be my next bike after the D390!
I am really hoping for a lot more low end torque even if it comes at expense of top speed. And a large fuel tank

Your consternation at what's being implied is valid; however in the general vicinity of where I live and work (Ghaziabad - East Delhi - Central Delhi - Noida), Duke 390 has become the bike of choice, for most 15 year olds - mind you not even legal driving age!
These are typically youngsters from semi-slum areas, who beg, borrow, and steal to buy these beautiful machines. Then they raise a ruckus by zipping through traffic at crazy speeds, with some wafer thin lass barely hanging on for her dear life. More often than not, it doesn't end very well, but that doesn't seem to deter them - and two new bikers are waiting in the wings to replace them on the street. So, what has started happening is that the policemen have started targeting a lot of Dukes on the road, because they see them as an easy way to make money.

Don't get me wrong - I love these machines. I have been wanting to own one (simply because of the fun and value factor) for over 3 years now, but simply can't digest the association, in my part of the world.
I don't need/want a 650, but for a while, I have been toying with the idea of picking the Versys, just because I don't want this association. The Adventure 390 hopefully, provides salvation. Maybe... just maybe, the off-road oriented thing may not appeal to them as much as the Duke or RC, and if KTM prices it higher, they might not see sense in investing more money into a machine that goes about just as fast as the other two. That's why the wish.

Agreed. Have heard similar comments from KTM riders in Bangalore and around Kerala as well. Nothing wrong with the bike, but the access to all that power at such low prices, combined with the lack of real education among the riders - have led to a rash rider image of KTMs.

But probably - the 390 Adventure with its laid back and relaxed stance might be able to escape this image.

A close friend in his mid 30-s with some grey hair was flagged down by Police seeing his D200. Noticing the grey hair when he removed his helmet, the cop asked him: "Why are you riding THIS at this age? Why can't you get an Activa?"

This was in Trivandrum, Kerala.

Either the page didn't load properly for me, or this is just lazy journalism. That particular spy pic has been on the internet since early 2017, has been discussed on this very thread, along with probably every other forum. Safe to say we still don't have any clue what the production model is gonna look like.

Production-ready test mule of the KTM 390 Adventure spotted in Europe !

Yet another picture has emerged of the KTM 390 Adventure being tested and, this time, it looks very close to being production-ready. The test mule features an LED headlamp, indicators, mirrors and even a rear number plate, hinting at its ready-for-production status.

That looks more like it! Seems like a good amount of parts sharing with the 390 Duke. This looks promising!

Some points that I didn't saw discussed in the article:
  1. The bike looks to have a longer wheelbase that the Duke, would definitely translate to a more stable ride.
  2. Great job with the front fender. The fork seals on the Duke are prone to failure off road.
  3. Lack of protection on the engine. It might be added in later stages, but I dont see any mounts yet.
  4. Grab handles look like the RCs, Integrated into the seat. Protruding grab handles were good for mounting and securing luggage. Lets see how KTM manages luggage.
  5. Forward set foot pegs!
