Re: Next-gen KTM RC390 caught testing

Next-gen KTM RC 390 spied in India

The 2021 KTM RC 390 has been spotted testing in India for the first time. The bike was spotted somewhere in Chakan, near Pune.

The updated RC 390 gets a redesigned fairing with a new headlamp setup and a windscreen. It has an orange rear sub-frame with a stepped seat on top and a single side-mounted exhaust. The test bike is fitted with a black alloy wheel in the front and an orange alloy at the rear.

The RC 390 is equipped with upside-down fork suspension at the front and has a monoshock at the rear. KTM seems to have beefed up the brakes with a larger front rotor and a single disc at the rear.

The next generation RC 390 is expected to get a revised engine as well. At present, the bike is powered by a 373.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 42 BHP and 35 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission via a slipper clutch.

Dang they got rid of the sexy two lamps in the recessed area in headlamp housing. That was my favorite part. New design looks like its the same lamp from Duke series, shrouded within a large fairing.

The dimensions look like they have moved away from track focus to more of Sports tourer type. Looking forward to the final product!

Re: Next-gen KTM RC390 caught testing

Few things i noticed in this picture :

1. The headlamp on the Rc 390 looks way better than the spy images of the RC 200. Still doesn't look great though, but is definitely not as ugly as the upcoming RC 200.

2. The disc brake on the front looks like a floating type , should be nicer.

3. The alloys on the front look completely different from the current gen dukes, the one at the rear though I suspect is still the old one, hopefully changed in the production bike.

4. The bike looks less front biased and more relaxed compared to the current gen.

5. Does the tank look larger to you all too?

Re: Next-gen KTM RC390 caught testing

I did not appreciate the current-gen RC design until I saw these leaked pics. That said, I'd reserve my final opinions for when I see this motorcycle in person. Most vehicles look meh in photos but really good in person. KTM is trying to reduce manufacturing costs by sharing components via design. India is a pretty stable market for the KTMs and no matter what the design, people love these lightweight fast machines.

2021 KTM RC 390 has been spotted undisguised, looks like a production ready variant.

Recently KTM has removed the current gen RC 390 from India Website Link (KTM RC390 removed from India website, next-gen launch soon?)

Wow I have never seen a KTM look this ugly ever. No matter what the colour and sticker combination is, all the lines in a KTM, the chassis, the subframe, the panels, they always seem to balance out like origami. This on the other hand just looks plain wrong. Heck at this point even their Adventure tourers look better than this thing

I believe they are going the Sports Tourer way, the tail section looks similar to the RR310, but why would they need a change of audience, the regular KTMs were selling in good numbers, I bet this won't.

Re: Next-gen KTM RC390 caught testing

A little bit of R15 (front side facia), a mix of rr310 is what my observation is. Did KTM had any surveys run with existing customers or to specific age groups, otherwise why do they want to fiddle with ? But one upside I see is the capacity of the fuel tank may increase which might add to folks who wanted to do long distance drives.

Completely agree, RC390 was such a mean looking bike with it's own unique presence. This looks extremely mediocre and borderline ugly as you mentioned. Guess the RC390 series anyway don't get the same love from KTM as the duke.

Even if it is touring focused they could have put in some more effort to make it look decent.

Bajaj has gone Pulsar 220 Dtsi on the RC390.

And the Austrians have given up.

It just looks like a lockdown Zoom call project.

Cheers, Doc

Re: Next-gen KTM RC390 caught testing

God, that fuel tank looks like a whale's stomach. Why reinvent something when they could have just improved the current design. KTM's have put on weight too!

My razor sharp looking Duke 200 with just 125kg dry weight way the main reason I fell in love with this brand, they have managed to successfully diluted it.

Re: Next-gen KTM RC390 caught testing

This is looking ugly. Not a cohesive design.
The fairing , the tank , the rear section, it all looks awkward. I hope it looks better in clearer pic or in some other angles.
Otherwise, it can definitely compete with final generation Hero Karizma for ‘how not to design bike’ or ‘how to make good looking bike the worst’.

Re: Next-gen KTM RC390 caught testing

This looks as bad as the ZMR which got discontinued some years ago. I literally searched for the current gen RC390 to reverse the damage done to my eyes by this ultra ugly new gen. If this is the final design, good days ahead for RR 310.
