I am of the frank opinion that the Dominar 400 has become an even better VFM proposition now. Who would have thought that considering the current one was already quite an all rounder!

For a meagre 10K more, here's the extra hardware you get:

- USD forks in place of conventional ones. The Dominar isn't too far behind the Duke 390 with this addition either now. (Although both bikes are built for different purposes)

- DOHC setup. You get a much more free revving and smoother unit which also facilitates a bump in power.

These two additions are easily worth the 10K to me personally.

Other addons are bonus features including the gearshift indicator and the new mirror stalks where Bajaj has cleverly addressed customer demands.

All in all, what Bajaj now needs to do is keep those idiots who marketed the previous generation at bay and have a new marketing plan in place. A very genuine effort on the product front for sure though.

That's a great value proposition now. Only Bajaj can do this great pricing. I genuinely wish for this bike to be the VFM tourer of Indian roads. I might be test driving this to get an idea on both rider and pillion comfort. Hope my plans for touring the length and breadth of the country might be more achievable with this.

Re: Updated Bajaj Dominar 400 launched at Rs. 1.74 lakh

Went to the Bajaj Showroom (Sri Vinayaka Mobikes, Kachiguda) just got inquiry and to check the bike out. Dealers here haven't received any updated 2019 models so far and shall be in the display by coming Monday.

Got the pricing for the updated model in Hyderabad:

Ex-Showroom: ₹ 1,74,125
Road Tax: ₹15,860 (@9%) or ₹24,390 (@14%)
Insurance (1OD + 4TP + 15 lakhs 1 year PA): ₹19,231
TR and Other charges: ₹1,886 (₹650 is handling charges)
On Road Price: ₹ 2,19,632 (@ 14% tax)

Freebies worth ₹2,000 given at Delivery:
  • Seat cover
  • Tank cover
  • Teflon coating
  • Bike cover
  • Engine warranty (5 years or 75,000 kms whichever earlier)

I've calculated the OTR at 14% tax as I have another vehicle on my name else it is calculated at 9%.

Just out of the showroom after checking out the bike but didn't go for a test drive. Matte black is available currently, green one would take a week to arrive the dealerships.

Number of Dominars sold in March 2019 is a grand total of 350 units, really sad considering the new updated version has become even more VFM.

There's only one reason for me not to buy a Dominar = It's heavy.

Re: Updated Bajaj Dominar 400 launched at Rs. 1.74 lakh

Unfortunately, the 650 twins have effectively killed all bikes in the 2-5 lakh price range. Its not that other bikes will not sell, but I'm absolutely sure that the 650 twins will outsell all the other bikes in that price range combined !

2 lakhs for a motorcycle is not a small amount by any small means. By the time you are able to afford a 2 lakh rupee bike, I'm sure your priorities would have changed and you'll find the 650 twins with their relatively relaxed nature far more appealing !

Re: Updated Bajaj Dominar 400 launched at Rs. 1.74 lakh

I've been trying to get a test ride in Gurgaon, but unfortunately none of the dealers have one..maybe that's the issue of low sales. How is anyone going to buy a bike if they can't experience it...

Walk into RE and you get a test ride in a jiffy. Offtopic, INT 650 is nice but heavy.

What Bajaj is missing is offering riders a buying experience, every Bajaj showroom feels like they are only interested in selling commuters..like herding cows.

They need to do a 'Nexa' if they want to play in the experiential market.

Re: Updated Bajaj Dominar 400 launched at Rs. 1.74 lakh

Recently when my brother went to get his bullet serviced just before selling it off, looks like he was pestered by the service associate there to take a TD on the twins. They had a TD vehicle available at the service centers too.
I applied for TD for dominar through the website (on the day of launch) and got an email that very shortly i will get an intimation from the dealer. I am yet to get a phone call.

This is because the south just received the updated Dominar last week, and Kerala launch happened on April 25th. So the numbers are bound to increase. Saw the green and matte black at Kasturba Road Khivraj yesterday and looks great in person. I have booked one for my cousin brother last week(green color) and given time frame for the bike to arrive is 10-30 days. Some stock of old Dominar's are still left and attracts a good discount as well.

Re: Updated Bajaj Dominar 400 launched at Rs. 1.74 lakh

Visited the Bajaj dealership for TD after I received a call from the SA that the bike is available for TD. Went for 2 consecutive TD's. The first time I rode the bike and second time I was as pillion to check the pillion seat comfort.

  • Engine note from the redesigned exhaust is phenomenal especially in the 3-4K range

  • Lower gears response for city riding is decent. 2nd gear felt like a balance for riding without much trouble. 1st gear is too short

  • Clutch action is light and smooth. Won't be a pain in bumper to bumper traffic.

  • Gear shifts were smooth but while shifting from neutral to first gear, the bike gave a small jolt, maybe clutch needs adjustment

  • Secondary console is placed away from the rides viewpoint. Have to take eyes off the road to glance at it.

  • Acceleration is mind-blowing coming from Activa 125, it felt like driving a superbike. Power delivery is linear and not mental like the Duke 390 (no offense to Duke owners). Could cruise at 80-100 kmph all day long in 6th gear.

  • No vibrations observed during the TD. Took it till revv-limiter kicked in but no vibrations felt from anywhere.

  • Brakes are sharp and precise. Nosedive is well-controlled. Couldn't check the ABS etc as the sensor on the front wheel was disconnected.

  • The 184 kgs weight is felt at parking lots where there will be a need to push the bike a bit and while taking U-turns. Not a deal breaker but IMHO not many will appreciate it. The Dominar 400 needs to be sent to a gym for weight reduction.

  • Wide handlebar seating position is upright. Felt like riding my Karizma R (in terms of seating I mean).

  • Seats are softer than the Duke 390 that I did TD after riding the Dominar. Could place both my feet on the ground flat (I'm 5'11" & weight 69 kgs).

  • Rider triangle is spot-on. Neither is it too upright nor is it too sporty.

  • Pillion seat is almost flat and comfortable to be seated on. During the second TD, I sat as the pillion and asked the SA to ride for checking the seat comfort and position.

Waiting time is 10 days for black and the green ones may take 20 days. I'm in love with the green color - looks brilliant and much better than the matte black. Wish white color was available - would have bought it eyes closed. Shall be getting rid of my Honda Activa 125 soon.

Re: Updated Bajaj Dominar 400 launched at Rs. 1.74 lakh

Can you give little more details on the discounts please?
Also are there any exchange offers on the new model? More than saving the money, needs to make place for a new bike as there are too many two wheelers at home.
