I wouldn't tend to consider this the "poorer" version of anything. I'd agree that a 250 is a "sweet spot" for most enthusiasts in normal subcontinental use, it saves a bunch on insurance (being sub-350cc,) I prefer the styling over the boy-racer-ish 250 Duke (which seems to be an eager performer), and if it's got a bit more bias towards dual-sport side of things, it makes it more appealing to me personally and the ADV-set more broadly. Is it "worth" a premium? Not for exclusivity alone, and I loathe that kind of marketing attitude. But if it ticks most of the boxes for a lot less outlay than something like the "mini-GS" and not a lot more than a Himalayan, well, it's gotta work for some.

Nice looking bike. I personally love the scrambler styled bits. This would definitely be on my list if I was in the market for a lightweight, fun and (hopefully) reliable daily ride. KTM is nice but has become too common a sight on our roads; not to mention that I am not a huge fan of their styling.

The Pilen helmet. It's apparently a 'Shark Vancore' helmet with the Husqvarna stickering.

If you haven't subscribed to Canadian YouTuber FortNine's excellent channel, you absolutely must. It's like if Top Gear looked at motorcycles. In-depth reviews paired with stunning cinematography, it's motorcycle reviews taken to a high art.

Anyway, FortNine did a really fascinating and visually stunning review of the Husqvarna 701, with some amazing deeper insight into the whole strategy of the whole "let's take KTMs and give them new clothes and put a Husqy badge on them." That's basically what they did, but there's more to it than just a new look, which is what he goes really in-depth into.

Check it out:

p.s. he also did an absolutely amazing review of the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 twin.

Husqvarna has finally entered the Indian market with the Vitpilen 250 and Svartpilen 250. The Vitpilen is a café racer-styled bike, while the Svartpilen is a scrambler. Both bikes have been launched at a ‘special introductory price’ of Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
At this price, the 250cc Husqvarnas cost only Rs 7,000 more than the KTM 200 Duke. The bikes also undercut the 250 Duke (the bike on which they are based) by Rs 20,000. The pricing is quite impressive, but what remains to be seen is how it will change after the special introductory period ends.
Priced at 1.8L (ex-showroom, Delhi), quite a competitive price at least initially.

Keeping everything aside, how do we pronounce and remember those names? Pretty good pricing though.

Looks like KTM took their least selling wine (the 250 series) and rebranded it in a shiny new bottle!

This will really appeal to those who wanted the Dukes, but didn't want to buy into the young and loud styling!

I don't know about Vitpilen but when I hear [Svart]pilen I'm reminded of "Schwarzenegger" meaning "dark farmer" so that one is obviously the dirtbike/scrambler and the first one is the café racer.

Illogical correlation? maybe but works for me.

Always thought that the Duke 200 and 250 are overpriced by 15-20k, but this has been priced so competitively. , I have a feeling that this will sell well at least here in Pune.

The pricing is very surprising. World over the Huskies are more expensive than their equivalent Dukes and here it is total opposite.
I am hoping they launch the 701 with the same pricing strategy.

And huskies are pronounced as "Hus - Ka - Var - Na"

That rules out a lot of kannadigas buying it then :-)

Refreshing to see that they have been priced below the equivalent duke. No dates though for the 401 unfortunately.
