Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

I bought my KTM 390 adventure around end of February 2020. Since then, I have been facing this issue with the handlebar. The handlebar seems to be biased slightly towards the right side while riding. I asked my friend as well to confirm, just to take out any bias if I had any, and he felt the same too.
Upon bringing it up to the service folks here in Pune, they made a few adjustments, by loosening the handlebar mounts, adjusting the bar and then re tightening it.
However, now after the lock down was over, I got it serviced and noticed the issue hasn't been solved yet. The service folks asked me to ride another KTM 390 adv just to confirm if I felt the same way with another vehicle. Unfortunately, I couldn't get hold of one yet! Any idea as to what could be the cause for this problem? Also, would it be possible for anyone else in Pune with a 390 adv to just test-ride my bike and confirm my assumption?

What a stonking review of a stonking little bike that goes like stink

I am having just so much fun with this little dog offroad... Its liberating not to be stuck with a big bike and a bigger ego off the road! The roads bore me... Am always looking for little trails to go exploring!

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Did a long ride to Pangi Valley (~ 4,700 KMs) this week.
Climbed up the Sach pass and then did Killar-Udaipur-Manali route. The bike performed amazingly well thru' the trecherous terrain without missing a single beat.
Few observations:
* You can trundle along in 2nd and 3rd gear on winding roads with speeds ranging between 20-35 KMPH without any issues.
* The light weight and nimbleness of the ADV really helped navigating thru ruts as well as half cut roads.
* On highways, I could cruise at 90-95 KMPH all day long covering in excess of 800 KMs in a day.
I was worried about the electronic wizardry that the ADV is equipped with, but no issues whatsoever in that department too !
Overall a great package for sure.
The ODO now stands at 9,000 KMs.

Took HVK's help in sorting out the stay options. So, it was quite hassle free !

Ryan can be absolutely brutal!

But in the land of the blind - the one eyed man is king. Don't see a 'better' alternative to the 390 Adventure, at least in our scenario.

Perhaps the next generations of these machines (including 310GS and Himalayan) will be much more competent!

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Is the footpeg position that big of a dealbreaker? Is it not possible to get aftermarket footpegs to fix the issue?

Seems like he's being a bit dishonest here just to put out a hot take. Moreover, he's 6'3" tall with long legs. He's bound to feel more discomfort than a person of average height.

Its the same guy who once thought the f800gs was the best adventure bike since he got it...he is human after all.

I think this bike suits folks under 6 ft a lot better and i think KTM have designed it that way to ensure women and newer adv riders jump on at the shop floor. The pegs are canted towards the levers like the duke, but will be fixed by after market pegs soon. Me? I face zero issues with the pegs standing up.

As a travel enduro, this is the best bike available today. Its light, got boatload of features that work, great price, and a good engine with enough grunt on the highway and revs free on the dirt. And brakes that actually stop. But it does not belong on a motocross track.

Some bits above paraphrased from friends on another 390 adv forum.

So much complains on the export version with adjustable suspension. Imagine if he was given the indian version with fixed forks.

Pity that. India is considered as one of the largest two wheeler market, and there are not much options in the light weight adv category, the segment best suited for our riding conditions. At some level, i do agree with that video. This thread knows well that some of us had been waiting for eternity for this 390 adv, but the end result was less then the sum of it parts. It came across more as a derivative of its naked and faired sibling and less of a purpose built. I recently got to ride the bike for some distance and had sort of similar feelings. There was so much more that could have been a wee bit different, right from the engine tune, to sprockets to ergonomics and ease of standing and riding to suspension. Its like there, but not quite there just by small margins on various parameters. like you rightly said, an eye missing here and there. At the end, its better to have something then nothing at all.

Hope so! And i wish for bikes like 390 adv to do well on sales so other manufacturers see some business to add their offerings to the segment. For the time, my wait for a KTM adv bike continues. 490 adv anyone?

I've owned the 390 ADV for almost 3 months now, and I feel a little let down and underwhelmed by it. No doubt its a good bike to ride, but for the price, it doesn't feel that special to me. Add to that, shoddy build quality and cheapo parts being used here and there.

So in a sense I do agree with F9.

Having said that, I am super thrilled about the 490 ADV, simple because it will come with 2 cylinders. So I'm trying to maintain my 390 ADV spick so that as soon as the 490 ADV launches, I can sell my 390 and get a twin-cylinder bike that I always wanted.

By the way, dont you just hate the face F9 (and even others) make when they hear that the 390 ADV is Made In India? He gives this cynical look like Indian makes are as worthy as European makes. He is forgetting the fact that India is one of the biggest exporters of bikes and the most efficient manufacturers too.

Also, how does F9 manage pull off wheelies that easily?
