Re: What should I do with my Yamaha RX135?

I would suggest you to keep it. Your Motorcycle is a classic. You can always restore it if you can spare some time. Restoring an old motorcycle is such a fun and you will definitely love it.
The engine sound of this beast is music to the ears and you will never regret keeping this motorcycle which had a cult following to it.

These bikes are the last real connect to man and motorcycle before tech takes over the joy of riding. Again, to each, their own
This is exactly what I would have done, if I had the RX. But this would take up parking space and also would have cost which may become a problem some time later.

Hello All,

I have 1998 model Yamaha RXZ 4 speed sitting idle in my garage from past 7 years, seeing all the posts and comments, I would like to go for complete restore and bring it back to glory.
Can any one please suggest a good reliable restore point in Hyderabad where I can get my bike fully restored.

Thanks in Advance

Re: What should I do with my Yamaha RX135?

Thank you Dear Ones, for your valuable opinions, observations and comments.
Like I had guessed right in my previous comment, both options would have worked well for me. However, I have decided to keep my motorcycle.
I rode to town yesterday, to the jeweller, through congested stretches of traffic. I really loved the way my mo-bike was ever eager to turbo-putter through these roads with determined elegance and re-bored refinement. So, I thought, "I simply adore this motorcycle. He'll be fine with me." In fact, the ride was so exciting that I remained dazed for quite a while after returning home!
I'll turn to you guys for help when I restore him in installments soon.
Merry Christmas.

Hey Dressellian!

Best decision. You're not only retaining the RX but I'm sure you're falling back in love with the RX. All in all a good solution.

Hi,
Good decision mate. Wish you loads of fun and long ownership. If at some point you decide its too much do consider to sell her to an enthusiast and not the mechanic. Good luck.

Re: What should I do with my Yamaha RX135?

Why, I gave my motorcycle a brand new set of tyres today! Only TVS makes the front tyre where I live. When I asked around at the MRF showroom, they said, "These days, it is very rare to see the front tyre in stock." They had the rear tyre though. So my ride is clad in both TVS and MRF tires for the first time now.

I thought you may like to look at my motorcycle, so I clicked a few pictures.

Re: What should I do with my Yamaha RX135?

When it comes to old era 2 stroke discussion threads, the passion, nostalgia never ceases to amaze me.

I had to leave India 16 years ago in 2005 ago for work in search of good fortunes. I had to leave behind 2 of the prized possessions (2 1990 RX100s) back in my home town. I still remember the tough instructions to my father to take good care of them. Father being a motorhead helped the cause since he was riding a 1971 Jawa 250. He knew a thing or two about maintenance and restoration.

To this day, I still believe one day I will return to India to take possessions of those old rides and get them back to their glory. My father still uses one of RXs on a regular basis and the other one occasionally.

I have no plans to sell them of any time soon. In fact, over time I have collected some vital parts to keep'em running for foreseeable future:

1) 2 Brand New Chassis
2) 2 Brand new original Cylinder Blocks (Sourced via contacts in the UK)
3) 2 Brand new Mikuni Carburetors (Made in Japan, sourced from Japan)
4) 1 set of gladiator front fork assembly with disk brakes
5) 2 Brand new tanks and side shields (Black and Maroon)
6) Few other parts

On the one side my father curses me that the house look like a spare parts shop and I respond with a willful smile everytime.

Attaching some pictures of the RX to keep up the spirits.

That is the right decision.

If you had sold the bike you would probably have regretted it every time an RX went by.

Right now the mo-bike is an appreciating asset. You can let it go, if at all, on your terms. You will get a good price, better than the 35k quoted by the mechanic.

Re: What should I do with my Yamaha RX135?

Yesterday was a day packed with mixed feelings. I sold my Yamaha RX135 to a local mechanic who is a Yamaha specialist.
Ever since I created this thread, I have been pondering the pros and cons of keeping the motorcycle.

1. The RC had expired in May 2020. The process of re-registering from a Karnataka number to a Tamilnadu number is cumbersome. I just don't have the time to run around and get it done.
2. The motorcycle is fifteen years old and it now needs a fitness certificate.
3. No matter how much I spend on renovation, the ride quality isn't quite what it used to be. There are still parts that need to be replaced.
4. I have rebored the cylinder and there is a considerable dip in fuel economy.
5. I have become bulkier and the motorcycle feels like a toy sometimes. A heftier ride will be more like it.

Looking at all this, I said it is better to sell it to someone who will not only spend right to renovate the motorcycle, but also will take care of all the back-breaking work at the RTO.

As the mechanic rode the motorcycle away, the heavens opened up. It rained so hard the roof sprung a leak. What does it matter who cries?

I have bought a bicycle to commute until I discover a more powerful machine that is truly retro at heart.

Of all those retro builds out there, which one do YOU think will suit a motorist who has rocked a Yamaha RX135? I will be riding the length and the breadth of the country once we are Covid-free. I am eager to hear from you.

One and only one - Interceptor Baker Express, keep it as stock as possible to retain the classic retro look. Twin cylinder not so heavy(bulky) with good road presence with reliable machine. You can easily cover 500 KMs in day but if you fancy for off-road then go for something else like Himalayan, KT Adventure or Honda NX200.
