Also noticed that there is a metal plate as standard fitment on the rear luggage rack.
Seems too tiny to hold anything. Will have to see it live to really gauge it though.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan with navigation to launch in Jan '21

Royal Enfield has commenced deliveries of the new Himalayan and has already rolled out over 100 units of the new model in a single day across its stores in Kerala.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan with navigation to launch in Jan '21

I happened to see the updated Graphite Grey and the new Mirage Silver at a local dealership today. The Mirage Silver looks sweet! Given how Royal Enfield has brought out tasteful new colours for the Himalayan and launched the Meteor with great colours, I have my hopes high for the refreshed 650 twins.

I really like the new tinted windscreen on the Himalayan. The implementation of the tripper navigation looks a lot better in person than in pictures. The waiting period has already jumped to 4 - 5 months as per the dealership. I have a feeling that RE might prioritize production of the Himalayan to clear the backlog from the last few months.

The Mirage Silver gets a brown seat. The Gravel Grey gets a black seat. There is a slight difference in the texture of the two seats.

No updates on the refresh of the 650 twins.

Thanks for the update Neil.

Maybe it does look better in person but I still find the entire meter display too cluttered and lacking form. Everything appears very haphazard, just placed to fit in, a shortcut implementation.

Since a refresh was on the cards RE should have changed the entire display area with proper integration. It could have been made to look a like a cohesive unit and really a standout feature with the new model.

Cheers

Cyborg, I agree with you that it looks really cluttered now. There is just too much going on in the dash for such a simple, no frills motorcycle. I also find all the lights in between the dials to be way too much. Im guessing that RE took the path of least resistance while implementing the tripper navigation on the Himalayan.

Also, that compass serves no purpose when you have tripper navigation that is leading you to your destination, right next to it!

Honestly, tripper navigation placed above the current console rather than besides it would have looked so much better and also would have been ergonomically more beneficial as stealing a glance would be easier

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan with navigation to launch in Jan '21

I had to pass by the Royal Enfield showroom and since they had forgotten to send me an email with the bill for my 650 windscreen, I stopped by to collect it. I found that the Himalayans that I had seen yesterday were delivered, in their place were a few Rock Reds and Lake Blues. I asked the sales guy to help me understand the Tripper Navigation functionality and he demonstrated it for me. Few things which I learnt
- Navigation is from the Royal Enfield app only and not any other navigation app. It looks like the RE app has APIs built in with Google Maps.
- You have to set the destination in the RE app and it picks one route only on your phone. It doesnt show you multiple routes like Google Maps.
- You connect it to the bike through bluetooth and the screen displays the turn by turn instructions quite legibly.

One functionality that I would have liked, is for the RE app to show multiple routes on it (like Google Maps does) so that you can then pick your optimal route and send the instructions to your bike. As an example, if I have to go from Cochin to Trivandrum, there are 3 routes that I can take. One is completely through the highways, one is through MC road and the third is a mix of both. The third is my preferred option. But the RE app will only show me one route, which is the shortest one with the most traffic. So if I want to take the third route, I need to manually enter that route onto the app myself instead of the RE app suggesting that as one of the options.

The tripper navigation and the other dials are held up by means of a clamp. I asked my SA about the possibility of adding Tripper Navigation to older bikes, he said any decent garage with electrical expertise should be able to install it.

I got a chance to see the Pine Green colour today. My eyes are permanently scarred.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan with navigation to launch in Jan '21

I always liked the Himalayan for its simplicity. It seems every iteration makes it more complicated (still very simple as compared to the 390adv). I still firmly believe the BS3 was the simplest and the most VFM Himalayan, just like how the first model of the Mahindra Scorpio was.
As Neil said, the Speedo looks like a christmas tree now, too cluttered with too many tell tale lights. Implementation of the Tripper navigation looks like a "Juggad" to me. No comments on the new colors.
With no news on a higher capacity Himalayan (apart from the rumours), my only hope is on the upcoming KTM 490 ADV twin which will be more than enough to satisfy my touring pangs.
PS- I own a BS4 non ABS Himalayan

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan with navigation to launch in Jan '21

I forgot to mention the pricing of the Himalayan yesterday. Like the other models from Royal Enfield, there are different prices for different colour options. The on road pricing below includes road tax, insurance and registration. It does not include zero depreciation insurance, extended warranty, RSA etc. The exshowroom price is in brackets.

- Mirage Silver / Gravel Grey : Rs 2,39,004 (Rs 1,97,000)
- Rock Red / Lake Blue : Rs 2,41,261 (Rs 1,98,999)
- Granite Black / Pine Green : Rs 2,67,708 (Rs 2,06,001)

The reason that the on road pricing of the last colour option is so high is because the ex-showroom price has crossed Rs 2L and it falls into the next road tax slab as per the Kerala government. Sigh!

Anyways, despite my long distance love affair with the 650 twins, I find myself getting more and more enticed by the all round nature of the Himalayan.

Here is a short clip of the Pine Green Himalayan. I hope this is the first and last of the ugly Himalayan paint schemes.

I'm in the same boat too. Had an Interceptor for a year and sold it off. Did not really connect with the bike. I'm starting to appreciate the Himalayan as all rounder that I can use on our pothole ridden roads. I also found the Himalayan powerful enough for city riding and extremely comfortable which was not the case with the interceptor.

Does that clamp arrangement mean the navigation pod could be repositioned? Maybe towards the top?
