Glad that the issue was identified and fixed :thumbs up
I am not sure how this would be related to general service unless there is a related service item but since you're close to your schedule anyway, get the service done. I would also suggest to check the maintenance card once in your manual and get a hang of things that need replacement/check and they aren't that many or too expensive.
If not already ask them to use the semi-synthetic oil, Ecstar R7000.
About the service center approach, it evades logic a lot of times and I've found over worked technicians at the heart of the matter more often than I would like. But since I can't do much about it I call up the ASC for availability and work load and in some cases a specific technician. This approach needs some time and patience initially but works well in the long run.
Work with them for a couple of services and see how it pans out before your next purchase which needs a new thread :)

Yeah True, today there was a major rush of bikes and scooters coming in for service. Sadly the techs are probably overworked and they have quite a small shed for a workshop along with a stockyard full of new bikes attached.
I'll tell you what though, they are better than the initial dealer I bought my scooter from. Let's see how the next service pans out. I usually give my scooter ever 3k km for a service or 4 months from date of service which ever comes earlier. It'll be 4 months come February 29 so I'll give it then on a Friday morning, since I've noticed they don't have many bikes come in on that day.
Let's hope for the best and I'll definitely consider to take the oil upgrade to the ECStar R7000.
Thanks Shancz

Engine oil Upgrade : From Suzuki-Ecstar 10W30 (R5000 I guess) to Castrol Power1 Ultimate 5W40 |
Hello shancz ,
I was just going through all access 125 threads to see if anyone has recommended any synthetic engine oils and came upon your thread.
I have a small question though, Suzuki recommends JASO MA type engine oil in the user manual and the Castrol power 1 ultimate is JASO mb for dry clutch vehicles. Is this a mistake by Suzukis part on the manual or have they not updated it yet!?

They won't as they would mention the lowest rating permissible when the engine would've been developed. And since the ratings are backward compatible like MA to MB is fine but if an engine is rated for MB then you can't use MA in that case.
Running Update :
With the Access at ~18700kms, 1200kms and 8 months from the last oil change, I paid a visit to a newly found FNG. The engine was flushed with Castrol Engine Shampoo(70ml) and the oil changed to
Suzuki-Ecstar R7000 10W30 semi-synthetic 700ml.
Also went for a gear oil change to
Castrol 80W90 gear oil for scooters.
This was the first time the gear oil was changed in its 6+ years and ~18700kms and it didn't look very burnt just a bit darker than the new oil. But since Suzuki now recommends to change every 8000kms so went for the change.
Observations :
- The engine feels a bit free but that's due to the engine flush as I had experienced earlier.
- No noticeable change in transmission response after the change of oil.
- The engine oil is a downgrade for from the fully synthetic Castrol Power 1 Ultimate and its easily noticeable. Now the engine feels strained and rough going past 50kmph while with the fully-synthetic oil, even at 60kmph it was very smooth and never felt strained regardless of the speed/rpm.
- I had used the
Ecstar R5000 mineral oil initially and that degraded very fast, the R7000 is semi-synthetic but it doesn't seem very different from the R5000. Also the difference in MRP is Rs.5 so that's also saying something.
- On the flipside I am expecting better FE as its not very encouraging to go beyond 40-45kmph :D
Conclusion :
The fully synthetic oils have spoilt me for good and IMO are well worth the price.
I would go as much to say that its the single biggest upgrade one can do to their riding experience.
I will try the Motul Scooter Power LE for the next change which should happen in 2-3 months from now.

I have been using Motul 7100 4T Fully Synthetic 10W-40 engine oil. The scooter feels smooth. I have done 20,600km so far in 6 years.
I have been getting an average fuel efficiency of 43km/l

Atleast with the BS6 Access, the engine oil and gear oil are shared. Same oil is used in Transmission too. I was surprised when I heard this for the first time but then Suzuki says so on the manual too as verified later.
Was it different for first gen Access?

Manual recommends the same engine oil as gearbox oil in my 2016 second gen Access as well. I change it every year with my engine oil since my running is low. Probably not necessary but its a habit I picked up from my old Hero Honda Pleasure ownership.

Quick update after recent service. They did clutch cleaning and put semi synthetic Suzuki oil. It has improved the performance and smoothness at lower speeds to some extent. I think I have to learn to live with it. Thank you folks for suggestions! Next time I'll try to ride another BS6 Access for comparison. |
Quick update after couple of months post service
Scooter has been running very smooth and performance has increased. Not sure if it's due to semi synthetic oil or clutch cleaning or just that engine has opened up after break-in period now that it has crossed 1500km. Also, now I am only using xp95 petrol from IOCL.
Whatever it may be, I'm glad that scooter behaves the way it should be :)

Seems like the first and second gen manuals club them as "engine and gear oil" and specify 10W30 as the default grade.
I had just assumed that the gear oil would be different from the engine oil like it is in cars and common to all scooters reinforced by the fact that manufacturers like Castrol/Motul/Liqui Moly/Waxpol make and advertise one specifically for this purpose.
But as mentioned earlier and discussed in
this thread.
Some points :
- I also found that Yamaha India has a separate
scooter gear oil but its specification is 10W40 which is the same as its engine oil.
-
Honda India and
Suzuki India have no separate gear oils in their oils/chemicals/lubricants sections and TVS
seems the same.
So, the evidence points towards using the recommended engine oil as gear oil and to be changed every 3rd service/8000kms as per
Suzuki's schedule.
I will check with the ASC and if they suggest will revert to whatever they recommend.

After a lot of confusion and some online digging I have decided to stick with a dedicated gear oil (80W90) from a reputed manufacturer like Castrol/Motul etc.
Reasons :
- I think the vehicle manufacturers are using the engine oil as gear oil because of ease of logistics and cost of a simpler oil lineup and also that the engine oil does the job of a gear oil for their target use case. Similar to what Maruti does when they keep interchanging the 0W20 and 5W30 engine oils in K10B engines, rated for 0W20, depending on availability at the ASC. Both have noticeable differences for a keen user but don't adversely impact the engine.
- Having a dedicated gear oil does make sense and I don't think companies like Castrol/Motul etc. would be promoting products that adversely impact the engines, could actually be the opposite.
- With the change mentioned in
post#95, evaluating the new engine and gear oils for what they are, I have noticed an improvement in the acceleration response which is noticeably quicker now. Do note that I mean the
response only. The numbers might not show a significant improvement because of the semi-synthetic oil in use now.
- Also checked some very informative and useful videos of
The Sportztourer(I think a BHPian ) which cleared my confusion and helped me make a decision. All thanks to his splendid efforts which were the reason for my switch to fully-synthetic engine oils in the first place clap:
Here's one on the topic :

I have a 2011 Access, which has run about 15k kms and is going around doing its intended job without much fuss. The body has become dull (Red color) and I have no intention of replacing this scooter anytime soon. With this in mind, I am thinking of getting the panels repainted (if possible). Has anyone done this, if yes can someone share reference of a place in Bangalore? If repaint is not an option - then how do I restore the aesthetics of the vehicle? It is mechanically very sound and none of the panels have any damage, just scratches and the paint has lots its shine.
Better to buy a new set of panels. repainting is expensive and you need to identify the right painter. I purchased a complete set of all panels from Mahavir Auto, Journalist Colony, near J C Road. Contact person Mr Mithu.

Could you please share the details of the panels pricing for the benefit of other users here. It would be helpful to estimate repair cost in case a panel needs to be replaced.

Recently my less than 1 year old access is facing vibrations/ shudders during first few minutes after starting from cold start. Mostly it comes when i accelerate from stand-still and goes away after i reach 10kms or above. I suspected its the clutch and told in my 4th free service to the service advisor.
They told me that he applied lube and cleaned the clutch shoes. But i still face this issue daily. Im using castrol power 1 ultimate and engine has run 2900kms only.
Please give me some suggestions on how to tackle this. Should i give it to FNG or raise complaint with non-existent suzuki Customer support. I have extended warranty but i doubt that covers anything.rl:
