Recently during Diwali, I made a round trip of 4k kms from Pune to Badrinath in my SM650. I can vouch that the bike is awesome, it performed superbly on the highways and the twisties of Uttarakhand. Even managed to cross the Landslide Impacted Areas smoothly. The only concern I had was with the touring seat and rear suspension. That combination made my trip a little painful. Now I have already ordered the Hagon Shock Absorbers and I am going to upgrade my seat for touring. Let's see this combo of new seat and Hagon.

That's an impressive trip. Great job.

From where did you order the Hagon shock absorbers and what was the cost? Thanks.

What issues did you face with the touring seat?

Do post an update on how everything goes.

Hi, I have ordered the HAGON Shock Absorbers from Hitchcock Motorcycles (UK) and received it within a week. The total landed cost for the Shock Absorber reads as below:
1. Cost of Hagon Shock Absorber (1 Pair) - Rs. 28843/-
2. Courier Charges from UK to India (DHL) - Rs. 10000/-
3. Custom Duty Paid (In India) - Rs. 12140/-
4. Installation Cost - Rs. 1000/-
Total Cost - Rs. 51983/-

After installation i have driven around 100 kms, and I can say with guarantee that the difference in comfort is immediately noticeable. The bike just glides on the rough patches now.

The Touring seat is comfortable but for only 200 odd kms (IMHO). Now i am modifying the seat (adding more cushion) by increasing the width. Trials have been successful. Expecting to get it installed by 15th Nov. Then I am planning for 1500km trip from Pune - Udupi. With the completion of trip, I can provide more update. But atleast till now I am extremely satisfied with the HAGON Shocks & Modified Seat

Again, this might be repetitive but I also took a test ride of the Super Meteor 650 out of sheer curiosity. I had written off this bike because of the low seat height and the thought of forward controls felt off. However, I just wanted to see if that was true. I was expecting to fiddle around with the foot controls and have an uncomfortable experience with the weight of the beast. Did any of those happen?

Quite the opposite. It took less than 5 minutes to get used to the forward controls and man, the comfort for taller riders is unbelievable. You really have to ride it to see it. It literally feels like riding on a lounge sofa. At one point, I was jealous that my own bike didn't provide this much comfort.

Weight management is magical by RE. The immediate observation I had in slow speed traffic was both the Interceptor and Shotgun feel heavy in slow speeds. But this felt lighter. Even the exhaust note sounded much more muted in comparison. Engine is as always refined and sweet. Very gentle natured bike, it gave me the feel of just sitting down and riding without worrying about anything else while at the same time, feeling like a king of the road. Just regally making its way.

Thanks sc15523 for the details on cost and post upgrade experience!! There are quite a few models on Hagon website. Requesting you to share the specific on you are using. Assuming you did not lower the bike height by ordering 290mm instead of 310mm.

I didn’t lower the height. I have bought the standard shock absorber, same as the stock ones.
Also I will be travelling to Odisha this week (My hometown) from Pune. I will be experiencing more with the installed Shock Absorber. Will share that feedback

Another trip planned this week from Pune to Rourkela (My hometown in Odisha). Appx one way journey will be 1450kms. Hope this goes well with the new shocks and modified touring seat

Is there a more durable chain/sprocket available in the market as compared to the stock ?

So here I am back with my first breakdown of the SuperMeteor 650.

Out of nowhere and suddenly, without any sign, it just died on me when I left for the office a good 6 km away from home. I was cruising at 60-70 km/hr, and suddenly 1 jerk and engine off. I quickly understood and pressed the clutch while I gazed at the speedo console.

No engine malfunction lights on.But the battery light was blinking, and the gear position number had a minus sign "-" blinking as I started changing gears to neutral.

Stopped, removed the key, and inserted it again. The bike fuel pump is making no sound, and the ignition is not cranking as the console is still having the battery light blinking. Called the service center head of Auto Guides. He was quick enough and sent a mechanic with a new battery in case the battery had died out. Though my horn and all lights were functioning just fine. The bike refused to start even after connecting a new battery. Finally, I requested the mechanic to push to the service center, which is another 5 km back.

The bike was then checked using their system, and I guess that's where the main issue was found. Yes, the ECU failed to recognize it, and it just died without any signs.

The bike was serviced at 7700 km; nothing was connected to the ECU, and no flashing/Updating was done.
Had done a return trip to Bangalore during the Moto verse event in Goa. After the Bangalore trip, another 100 km were ridden too.
Now the ECU is ordered and expected next week. It is under warranty. I have also taken their extended warranty, which is max 5 years from the date of sale.

The good part is that I was just thanking the powers above me for being kind enough not to make this breakdown during my Bangalore trip:Cheering:. Having such a breakdown on home ground makes you at ease sometimes, as you know you're close to support from the service center where you visit and also from your family and friends in the worst of cases.

Maybe this is the first Super Meteor 650 to have an ECU die upon.:Frustrati

Yes, ECU failing is surprising and don't think anyone here has reported that on the 650 twins.
I thought it would be the fuel pump since that was a known issue, not sure if it is still on the newer bikes. But since the bike turned off while the engine was running, chances of the fuel pump giving up is less.

Do keep us posted.

Ownership Review of my Desi Gold Wing "Super Meteor 650"

I learnt riding at the age of 10 (in 1996) and since then I have been riding for the past 24 years & ridden appx 3 lac kms and have been fortunate to ride my dad’s bike & also own few bikes in this long run starting from KB100, Caliber 115, Caliber Croma & LML Freedom (all Dad’s Bike) and then CBZ, Pulsar 220 & Mahindra Mojo (My Own). After Owning “Mahindra Mojo” for 9 long years (driven around 70k kms & went across the country), I finally made up my mind for my next big upgrade. And this time I was gunning for a twin cylinder Engine. I had RE in my mind considering the smooth & affordable twin cylinder they had in their portfolio. My choice was clearly between 2 RE’s – Interceptor 650 & Super Meteor 650. After taking multiple test rides of both the bikes, I decided to go ahead with the “Super Meteor 650” considering the riding comfort at least better than Interceptor (IMHO).
The SM650 met all my expectations including the smooth vibe free engine, sleek gearbox, riding posture, looks & customization options except the stiff rear suspension, but I found alternate to that as well. In Apr’24, I finally booked my bike with “Chopada Motors, Wagholi, Pune”. There was a waiting period of close to 3 months which I was okay with. Exactly after 3 months, the dealership confirmed the arrival of my bike, and they were very generous for allowing me to do the PDI along with their team. I have also opted for few RE Accessories to be installed in my bike at the time of delivery. Then comes the D-Day of my bike’s delivery – 17th Jul’24. I along with my better half, 2-yr old boy, my elder bother & my friend went to take the delivery. The delivery process was seamless. The Sales Manager briefed the entire process & also explained the RE Connected App.
Since 17th Jul’24, I have driven 10k kms (availed 3rd Service with 4 months of delivery), the bike has performed flawlessly. Its extremely smooth at triple digit speeds, no vibrations at all. I am extremely satisfied with bike.

Major Rides Completed:

1. Pune – Badrinath – Pune: 4000 kms in 7 days (separate review to be followed)
2. Pune – Rourkela – Pune: 4700 kms in 2 weeks (Hometown visit)

Pros:

1. Vibe free Engine
2. Smooth Gearshifts
3. Comfortable riding position
4. Super stable & well balanced at triple digit speeds
5. Vibe free body

Cons:

1. Stiff Rear Suspension (Upgraded to Aftermarket)

Modifications/Accessories/Upgradation done:

1. Rear Suspension: Replaced the OEM Suspension with Hagon’s Rear Shock Absorbers (Imported from Hitchcock Motorcycles, UK) – Costed 51K
2. Top Box (52 ltrs) from Trek & Ride
3. Zana Top Rack
4. Front Brake Master Cylinder Guard from Zana
5. Rear Brake Master Cylinder from Zana
6. Windshield Extender from Prospec
7. Maddock Foglamps (Installed with the handlebar)
8. Bark Buster Handguard
9. Grip Puppies
10. RPM Meter from Daytona (Imported from Hitchcock Motorcycles, UK) – Costed 13K
11. Seat Modified according to my sitting posture
12. Complete PPF – Costed 15K
13. Accessories from RE:
a. Side Panniers
b. Front Windshield
c. Touring Foot Pegs
d. Fog Lamps

Review of Hagon’s Rear Suspension:

I have driven appx 5k kms with the upgraded rear suspension. I can vouch for this suspension. Although those are expensive, but frankly speaking the decision was right. Travel is way more than the OEMs shock absorber and the ability to absorb shock is superb. It doesn’t transmit shocks to the rider neither the pillion, how rough the road is. Very smooth even of concrete surface.

Hi Everyone, Sorry for the delayed post. I got my bike fixed last Wednesday.
I got a call from the service manager that the part has arrived, and it will be fixed on Wednesday.

Accordingly, I reached the service center, and then my bike was taken up for work. There was some video they were recording explaining the troubleshooting and ending with a faulty ECU. They even used 2 fuses (which got fused) to say the ECU was faulty.
Then they got this new ECU, which also has an old part number stuck on it but is a new part number. They mentioned to me that it is an upgraded part, and the upgraded part numbers have the ending /A.

Well, they then connected a new ECU with a new fuse, and the bike came to life. The fuel pump started, the gear position indicator showed correctly, and the battery light was gone.

They started the bike and took another video with the ECU connected temporarily and explaining the same. The bike was left on for 5–10 mins, then a test drive was done, and then many parameters were checked along with a health check on the system connected to the ECU.
After they were satisfied, the job card was closed and the bike was handed over. I did not have to pay for the part and it was replaced under warranty.

I am happy that the bike was fixed in a week's time. Thanks to the Auto Guides Service Head and Advisor and the mechanic who worked on my bike. All were really helpful and patient, which gave me confidence that the bike is in good hands. 5 out of 5 stars for them. clap:

I had a doubt in my mind. The bike ECU failed, and the bike after that was in reserve (Trip F started). So just to clear the doubt in my mind, I got the bike refueled with 2 liters and let it go in trip reserve. Did this activity twice, just as I thought with the Trip F, or reserve sensor, or fuel pump was creating the issue. So that also was cleared, and my mind is clear of any doubts that everything is good now and faith is restored in the bike.:Cheering:

Below pics are of the faulty ECU, the one that came on my bike originally.

Hello SC, I got a shotgun back in 2024(stencil white variant).

I have clocked about a thousand Kilometres as of now, in this short span, I also found the rear suspension to be very stiff and would probably affect lower back or spine if this isn't taken care of.

Kindly help me with the following questions I have with regard to the Hagon's suspension.

1. Will these fit my shotgun?
2. Are they durable enough for our Indian Roads?
3. Will the high speed stability and cornering ability of the bike be affected in a negative way or a postive way?

Thanks!:)

Hi Faizu,

I have clocked 10k+ kms with the Hagon Shock Absorbers in different terrains. I will try to answer your questions.

1. Will these fit my shotgun? Yes they will directly fit into your Shotgun
2. Are they durable enough for our Indian Roads? Yes absolutely durable
3. Will the high speed stability and cornering ability of the bike be affected in a negative way or a postive way? I cruise at 90-100 kmph throughout the day and I haven't faced any such issues yes.

The only negative side is that those are expensive costing appx 51k.

Thanks
