Re: Hero MotoCorp launches Vida brand for EVs

A simple idea but might be revolutionary especially for Indian consumers as we generally don't like waiting for the whole charging cycle. Very excited to see how Hero plans on executing this, can be a potential future textbook example of a simple but effective invention.

Hero MotoCorp’s emerging mobility brand, Vida, powered by Hero, is all set to launch its first product on October 7, 2022. In an endeavor to enhance customer experience, the brand has set up a unique, one-of-its-kind installation, (first by any auto major globally) at Cyber Hub in Gurugram.
The much-talked-about installation captures the journey of the making of India’s not-first electric scooter.

Several actual parts and prototypes that were rigorously tested at Hero MotoCorp’s world-class R&D center, the Center of Innovation and Technology (CIT), Jaipur, have been put in a glass case for the world to see.

The numerous parts and prototypes exemplify the rigor, safety norms and protocols that have been put in place while developing the scooter. An ode to the company’s sustainability focus, the parts are recyclable.

The installation showcasing Hero MotoCorp’s manufacturing and R&D excellence, highlights the prototypes, distance and time that have gone into developing the product. A statement on the installation represents the thoroughness - “Built to last, 1006 prototypes were tested across 200,000 kms and spent 25,000 hours to arrive at the final one.”

Re: Hero MotoCorp launches Vida brand for EVs

Expectations from my side:
Belt drive - So that motor is not damaged while changing tires or puncture repair.
Manual Key - Tensionless about keyless scooter!
Less fancy display - I am paying for scooter, not for 4K display unit.
Detachable battery - 2 pieces, one for standby @ home and one in scooter
and basic features of Activa.

Lets see how much will be right tomorrow.

Re: Hero MotoCorp launches Vida brand for EVs

Why do scooter manufacturers provide only 3yrs battery warranty the Tata EVs come with 8yrs warranty? I was comparing the battery warranty of major EV scooters and it's 3yrs (kms vary but always atleast 25k kms).

The one part that needs to give me max piece of mind in any electric vehicle is the battery and 3yrs just doesn't cut it.

Its mostly because 2 wheelers batteries are charged and discharged aka cycled daily because they have a shorter range at around 70km to 90km real world range. So these batteries are cycled daily from SOC 100% to 50%, 30% etc.

Where as cars come with alteast 2x to 5x the range, so city users will mostly charge it once a week.

Cars are also charged in home at 0.1c to 0.2c for 3kw to 7kw home charger. Where as the 2 wheelers are charged at 0.9kw to 1.2kw which is 0.3c to 0.5c and some 2 wheelers owners only use public charger which is even faster but also reduces the battery life.

Also cars come with LFP packs, where the battery manufacturers itself offer 8 year warranty, which is passed on by car manufacturers to the end user.

Even NMC/NCA made specific to cars have better chemistry for cycle life.

Many 2 wheeler manufacturer use off the shelf 18650/21700 and because the motors in 2 wheelers have a instantaneous power draw of 1C to 2C of the rated battery capacity, they may use batteries with higher discharge power (low Internal resistance) but lower cycle life.

Thanks for the post. I yesterday was checking the Hero electric - non registration required low speed bike. So this has no relationship with the Hero motocorp. But is there any indication of the quality of these Hero electric bikes? I see they are largely used by Bigbasket folks (NYX series) as it has rear seat cum parcel arrangements.
