Forget getting anything in India and don't try to substitute parts. Lessons learnt the hard way.
Is there any Srilanka website from which we can source parts?

re: Restoring a JDM Honda CB 350 from the 1970s

Before going deep into restoration a little bit of information about the model history of the CB Series :

CB 350 Twin was in Production from 1968 to 1973 between these years as per the information from the internet 4 models K0, K1, K2, K3, and K4. All of them were Twin Cylinder, Twin Carb, and 5 Speed variants later Electric start was added. Specs read 36 bhp (27 kW) @ 10,500 rpm and 2.55 kg⋅m (25.0 N⋅m; 18.4 lbf⋅ft) @ 9,500 rpm and a claimed 170 km/h (110 mph) top speed, K0 to K2 followed one design language and from K3 onwards Honda changed the design language to be similar to that of the legendary HONDA CB 750 - The Worlds First Super Bike.

What beauties are they! To think that the same Honda is offering a CB 350 clone with 20 BHP in India in 2022 where they had twins with 36 Bhp in the 70's. Confound them!

That's because with the current CB350 Honda intends to dethrone RE 350 from the market lead where the original 350 Twin was built to dethrone British Twins , that was a period of Japenese onslaught against then golden standard British bikes . Leaving everything aside one important aspect which still stands tall is the design! classic bikes are beautiful where the current ones not on the same level .see the world's first superbike CB 750 - what a beauty

re: Restoring a JDM Honda CB 350 from the 1970s

Armed with the model information from the internet I tried to identify the correct model of my bike but failed miserably because my bike has disc brakes up the front which is not there in any K series models. I tried discussing the same in multiple international classic honda forums like vintage honda twins and honda twins but didn't yield any results and the members labeled my bike as a mod job nothing stock! This made me dig deeper and finally found an option where I can request Honda UK for a YOM certificate which will prove beyond doubt the model details of my bike, after many emails and payments to Honda they finally gave me what I am looking for so long

re: Restoring a JDM Honda CB 350 from the 1970s

From the YOM certificate, it's clear which model my bike is but a new challenge arose ie zero information from the internet! Google search result was zero. After discussing with my friends who share a similar interest in classic automobiles about options to procure the parts one of them agreed to help me by using his contacts to source from Honda directly but for that PartNo was needed! My quest to resolve the issue ended up in this Original Honda Parts Catalogue! unfortunately in Japenese Language and quite expensive to buy nevertheless it was a do-or-die situation my brother being the owner and financier asked him to buy it as we don't have any other option: Bought it from CMSNL ( The only website which had the B3 Reference ) by Paying In 7055rs on Cost + 1800rs Shipping and 4240 Customs Duty.

Congratulations Justin! A classic piece with very few survivors in India. Wishing you all the best for your restoration work. Spares should be plentiful in the international market and the Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia sources would be preferable. Apart from that, please also try getting fabricated some of the non critical (engine and gearbox etc) components. Coimbatore is an excellent place to get fabrications to our specifications done especially for the trims.

Thank you sir for the encouraging words. I managed to source almost all the engine components all that remain are cosmetic parts and some metalwork. I tried talking to some of the fabricators here they agreed to work on it as I have the original in rusted condition. They can use the originals that I have for references like overall shape and dimensions.

Re: Restoring a JDM Honda CB 350 from the 1970s

Armed with a newly sourced Parts catalog and with the help of a friend (my mechanical support) finally made a complete list of parts that needs to be sourced for a proper rebuild. The list turned out to be a really long list starting from the camshaft, rockers, and all components related to timing, points, coil, piston rings, gaskets, and seals. All the information required was prepared and sent to honda with the help of another friend and waited for long 2 months for a reply! and the long-awaited response was not promising most critical components were out of production and stock . As there is no meaning in getting other components without the critical ones I extended my search to all parts of the world through the Classic Honda Two-wheelers community and it did yield results, finally a motorcycle tuner from Scotland responded. After talking to him in detail I came to know that he is an expert in these classic hondas and has a vast collection of original parts with him and he agreed to provide all the necessary parts and know-how to restore my bike to perfection. The highlight is some of the components are racing spec . Even though continents apart an enthusiast extending his hand to another enthusiast says a lot about automotive brotherhood .see below some of the parts getting ready to be shipped to me. Once these parts arrive she will be resurrected from more than 30 years of slumber

Wow, what a project! Glued to this thread. All the best, Justin! Can't wait to see the end result. Let me know if there is something specific that I can source for you from Japan.

Thank You, Viju aha you are from Japan Once the mechanical side is sorted out I need to source cosmetic parts, I believe which will be available in japan either in new or used condition, will be of great help if you can checkout there. Are RD 350 parts available there? Have you seen any running CB350 Twins or RD350 in Japan? Is there any motorcycle scrap market near you?

Re: Restoring a JDM Honda CB 350 from the 1970s

I am from Cochin, currently living in Japan.

I do once in a while see some RDs / RZs etc, but they are rare. I believe many have been exported to the west. I am done with my two decades of restorations and 2 strokes, so I don't pay much attention anymore. CBs except the CB750 series never caught my fancy, but I am sure there are many of them still alive, as old Hondas are well-loved in Japan.

I don't know of scrap markets, but there are two sources for used parts: Yahoo Auctions and Mercari Japan. You can check these websites online and use a translator for your browser. We can check it out when you start looking for cosmetic parts. From my experience though, if your bike was sold in SE Asian market, that will be the best place to source parts - cheaper and easier to get. 'NOS Made in Japan' parts anyway will cost a bomb, even in Japan.

Thank you. My CB is a JDM model which was exclusive to japan but I believe the cosmetic parts will be the same or similar to that of the K series. I know the cost part of buying NOS parts that's why I asked you for scrap market .I own an RD 350 and Y250 out of which as you know RD parts cost superbike money so I was thinking if the scrap markets are there in japan may be a chance for low-cost spares for my beloved RD
