Why is it cheating? Its still your decision whether to buy it or not?

Power to weight ratio might be same but the Bajaj cannot hold a candle to it in terms of handling. That deltabox frame is lighter, stronger and provides brilliant handling. Besides this bike isnt meant to be a highway tourer... a highway tourer with max power coming at 8500 rpm.... you gotta be kidding me!
To some its just about straightline performance, to some the kick comes from a screaming engine, slick shifts and knee touching down while taking a corner and I am sure this Yamaha wont dissapoint.

What do you ride?
Do you have any idea what a link type monocross suspension is?
What is a deltabox frame?
What is power to weight ratio?
What are transmission losses?
Its easy to make sweeping comments when you dont know a thing.

This should put the bike on par with the CBR150RR.
The press release should be out tomorrow. |
You seem to be really impressed with bike killer, how does she handle on track? Did you get to ride it.. How does it feel? I would like to hear your honest opinion on the bike.

Valid points there. I agree not many people know what those mean (me included). But are these really the factors that a typical Indian bike-buyer looks at ? No wonder the XCD Traffic Signal ad talks about CC, Mileage and Price.
I know the R15 is not an aam aadmi bike, but it was supposed to target the P220/ZMA segments right ?
I seriously think that this bike is capable of doing more due to ecu system, its setting can be changed as heard
i think yamaha tried to make balance between average and power ,for getting one of the either have to be compromised getting 17 bhp and avg of 30-40 heard kmpl both at the same time is bitt difficult . lets wait for the final performance benchmarks
but the negative thing is the pricing thats is too high for that bike of only 17 bhp power it will come down with the launch of tata nano :uncontrol
but bike is disappointing for that much hype created by yamaha India

Hi extreme_torque,
Good that you brought up these points. I am interested to know about monocross suspension and deltabox frame. Can you post some good links about the same?
Thanks,

Straight6 is an experienced biker. I am sure he knows all those things :p . He rides a superbike.
So, I conclude that it is easy to make sweeping comments when he does know a thing or two.,

A diamond type
Deltabox frame is the term used to describe a Yamaha frame with the engine suspended as a stressed member rather than cradled by down-tubes. Usually, this type of frame has two large main top rails that extend from the steering head to the swingarm pivot giving the frame exceptional torsional strength. This type of frame is often made of aluminum. The diamond type frame design can also accommodate a downdraft cylinder head and allows optimum placement of the engine for a low centre of gravity.

YAMAHA MOTOR CANADA | Technology
YZF-R15 is equipped with a
linked type monocross suspension that delivers a comfortable ride and a cushioning performance that is less prone to bottoming out. In particular, it reduces annoying “sinking” when riding tandem. The linked monocross suspension consists of a link mechanism sandwiched between the rear arm and cushion unit to create changes in the lever ratio based on the lever effect. When the shock absorber is almost fully extended, the lever ratio is high and therefore the spring is soft, and the damper works softly as well.
As the shock absorber strokes in, the lever ratio gradually decreases and the spring rate increases. Eventually, when it is nearly fully stroked in, the lever ratio becomes small and the spring becomes hard and strong. The damper also becomes hard. By making changes to the lever ratio in this way, we were able to achieve soft riding comfort as well as excellent damping under intense load conditions. The optimization of the frame and rear arm rigidity of the Deltabox Frame combined with the effects of the linked type monocross suspension achieve good riding comfort, agile handling, and turnability, hardly ever causing bottoming out.

In that case its even more surprising that this comment came from him. Dissmissing the bike as a "wannabe" and then compairing it to modded pulsar's without actually riding it... doesnt matter if he rides a super or a hyperbike.
lol: For a sec, i thought i wandered into a FIAT thread. Such a live conversation going on here. One thing is clear, Yamaha could have been a sure winner had it been bit more powerful in specifications. This is just too close to be called a sure winner. (And majority opinion is that it is a disappointment)

Does it really matter? Considering this is the bike that Yamaha is looking forward to improve sales, does 17 bhp and 1,10L price look good? Just visit various forums, majority thinks the bike has been a let down.
People, IMO, P220 wont be a better (doesn't mean faster) bike than this Yamaha. But, remember that 220 was launched at a price of 85k OTR, there is a good difference in price, which could work out in Bajaj's favour.
a question to all experienced people here...
do you think it is a good buy at 1 lakh +..
i will be using the bike for daily commuting , in city conditions not more than 10-15kms per day..
my expectation from the bike is good looks, style, decent power, good handling/balance and pick up .

I do know about all the latest technology being put in R15. As you see, many people here are disappointed over the bhp figure and many already booked it thinking the bhp figure would be around 20-22 which was told by the dealers of Yamaha. Making the dealers to say about the bhp figures which are not true for sure is cheating.:)
Regarding the p220, the stance of P220 is more relaxed than R15, thus providing relaxed long rides. I do not think with R15 long rides are possible. I fully agree that R15 may beat p220 in terms of performance.

Improve sales? Are you sure you arent mistaken? This bike wasnt supposed to be a volume spinner for Yamaha... never... that would be the FZ150. Besides when you say "just 17 ps and 1.1 lakh" you are overlooking a hell lot of other things which are light years ahead of the competition and I would end here.

The point is it was their hard earned money, no body forced them to buy it or believe the delaer's words and if they are so dissapointed they will let us know. I dont think anyone needs to speak here on their behalf on mere speculations. No one has ridden the bike yet.

Just one look at the YZF R15... do you think it was ever intended to be a touring bike? It has been launched on the chennai track... got the drift?
